Sega has recently leaked a conversation or document with sony or something and apparently ruined the surprise of upcomming plans.
i dunno, i think it probably is fake, but it can't hurt getting my hopes up
*Ssx3 here i come!*
make sure you read the whole article and tell what you think. i sure hope it's true. if its true, Sony are really getting into their stride.

What Sony should be doing, is bringing backwards compatability back, instead of being overly hungry for money all of the time, and making us re-buy games we already own.

I think it's out of order that they've taken backwards compatability away from the new consoles, and are re-releasing games that we already have, and just putting trophies with them.

I have God of War 1, 2 and the psp version, so what they should be working on, is an update in the firmware, bringing backwards compatability back, and making it so we can not only play the games we already own, but get trophies for them as well.

I refuse to re-buy any games. I like Sony consoles over anything, but Sony as a company I'm not too happy with, pretty much due to money hungry decisions, like this one.

It shows they have too much money on their hands, when they're basically offering Sega money for everything in that article, even though it would obviously profit them immensely.

Ah well. I'm not too bothered. Just a shame how they're dealing with things. They're always so indecisive, and tend to make a lot of decisions without putting too much thought into it.

All they see is £££ in front of their eyes. This saddens me.

The best thing i got from that article was the picture of Sonic at the top of the page.

This is one of the reasons Im starting to really hate sony (not the Sonic picture but the rest of the article)

This is old news. [I think we posted this story a couple of weeks back]
Either way, PS2 games on PSN is a no brainer, really. It's just a matter of time. :)

still, the PS3 should be backward compatible instead of having to rebuy everything. Whats the betting that if they do bring out old games on PSn that they will be well over priced and not as good as we remember them

All I can see is my 'rare' 60GB Backwards Compatible PS3 diving in value.

Well, I have the original launch console, as I was fortunate enough to get it on the day of release, and that's backwards compatible.

I just think Sony are a little idiotic for saying it's backwards compatible, then saying bc isn't the way forward, changing it again, and now trying to bring it back via the psn.

I think they should make all ps3's backwards compatible again, and just put an update in to give us trophies for our already bought ps3 games, but that's not gonna happen now, is it?

Sony do some good things, and do some really horrible and annoying things. Meh.

The thing is; the group of people willing to just re-buy their PS2 games (or hell, those who are getting them for the first time) probably overshadows those who are upset over this. They're simply doing it because they can.

I don't mind though, but that's mainly because I was one of those poor sobs who only had a GameCube back in the day. It'll give me a great opportunity to catch up with some great games that I've missed.

They should do both.

I dont have a ps2 so backwards compatibility is kinda not my concern, i want ps2 games on psn :)

I wish mine still worked!

They should do both BWC for disc's and Ps2 games Via PSN.

I am certainly not re-buying game i already own.

I'm agreeing with CaptainCortez and Spike on this one.

The console needs to be made both BC and have them available for download on PSN.

I have a tonne of PS2 games that I don't want to have to go and buy all over again.

The actual news isn't surprising though...I mean, has anybody noticed that the hard drive still has the option to create virtual PS2 memory cards? Even in the non-BC models...

Well yea, I'm also agreeing with you TZM.

It should be made 100% BC, so people like us who have lots of games (I have over 95 ps2 games, as I just refuse to sell them. The condition of most of them is still immaculate, so I refuse to be given £3 for a still brand new condition PS2 game) can play our own.

Then they should put them on the PSN as well, so people who may not have had a PS2, or may not have as many games as they wanted for it, can then purchase them from the store.

I don't feel at all that it should be a case of one or the other.

If I was in charge of Sony, the best business strategy in my opinion would be to make all consoles Backwards Compatible, but right from the start, and then also sell the games on the PSN for those who wish to buy everything via online transactions, instead of in the shops.

That way, they still make a lot of money, and everyone is happy.

The current way things have been going, not that many people are happy, and it seems like Sony don't actually know entirely what they want.

I'm happy with the free internet play though. It's one of the main reasons why I prefer PS3 over 360. I just don't know if I have too much faith in Sony anymore.

At the end of the day, all console companies are out to make money, and will do almost anything they feel like to get the money. Just, not all companies go the right way about it.

i agree that sony can't really make up their mind. but seriously, backwards compatability for the most popular game console of all time is not a bad idea!
i dont see why sony refuse to make bc. just think of the surge in profits from ps2 games sales, i myself will go down to the store and for the first time look in the ps2 isle!
i just want to get rich and famous so i can tell sony what they should do and they will actually listen.

i think sony thinks that a lot of people don't have a ps2 so they wont mind the loss of bc. that is totally wrong! i've met soo many xbox fanboys and even they have a ps2.
if sony want to win the console war.....MAKE BACKWARDS COMPATABILITY.
think about it, instead of starting from close to the beginning, they could merge ps2 games on ps3, single handedly making the largest game library in the world. all playable on ps3.

but moving on from bc, the rest of the article is quite good for ps3 owners. dreamcast games remade for the motion controller, new content on pshome e.c.t

though im not that worried. i'll give sony till 2011 for bc to come on ps3, it's bound to happen.:whosthere:
IMPORTANT: i think ps2 bc is implied in the article. it says "ps2 emulator" which is what the old ps3's firmware had. you need the emulator to run ps2 games, so why would the game on psn differ from the physical game? im guessing it's comming, but sony's trying to be hush about it so people keep on buying ps2's

CaptainCortez

Well, I doubt they feel not many people have a PS2, as they always brag about how many PS2's they've previously sold, and how they didn't expect to sell as many as they did.....bla, bla, bla.

All I want from the Dreamcast games on PSN, is Rez. ;)

360 has it, so there's no reason why PSN won't have it.

Anyway, I'm not really a Sony fanboy in any way. I just prefer their consoles. 360, PS3 and Wii all have their strong points, but the main competition is in my opinion between PS3 and 360.

The Wii is fun with some of it's games, but not really for hardcore gamers. It's more of a family console.

Every console has good games, and in reality you need all consoles to get the most out of the gaming industry, but it's more practical to own just one.

Playstation has always had good games, and with the games industry going more multi-platform, we may lose exclusives, but we get games that were previously only on other consoles.

Dead Rising 2 is a fine example of this.

Sony just need to get their butt in gear and realise that Backwards Compatability is the way forward, and that they should release the games on PSN as well, for those of us who don't own any PS2 games.

Too bad that Ken Kutaragi changed his mind...

PSone runs on the PlayStation 2 through emulation rather than actual hardware. PlayStation 3 will offer the same compatibility for PS2 software and the format will continue forever

Yeah, right...

Like already mentioned, having PS2 titles for download only is not ideal, as many people would like to be able to play their old PS2 games [including myself]. However, to me it's more a case of being able to buy some of the rare gems I missed out on [such as Ico], in which you really can't find anywhere unless you're willing to spend vast amounts of money or getting a dodgy used copy with no warranty.

Either way, this is a huge step in the right direction as far as PS3 and PSN goes, and I think a lot of people need to be reminded on why they bought a PlayStation console in the first place. PS2 has a incredible library of quality games, and I'm sure there are titles that you never had a chance to really play, that you may be able to give a swing now.

Also, if PS2 emulation works similar to how PSone games are currently structured, that means cross region games, which is a even bigger library of games!

I don't think that Backwards compatibility is all that big a deal. I never owned a PS2, but since I got my 60GB Ps3, I've brought a load of PS2 games that I missed out on before (God of War, Killzone ect.). Apparently the emulation isn't perfect, but I've never had a problem with a game running badly.
Ultimately, if my PS3 was to get stolen or anything, I wouldn't go mad over getting another 60GB, I'd just buy one with a big HDD and a PS2.
