View Full Version : Limited editions
Im sure you noticed it guys but last few months, the amount of different collectors and limited editions has risen up dramaticaly and i would like to know your opinion on the topic.
First i was like: Ok, ill buy the modern warfare 2 hardened edition and i also like the batman arkham asylum collectors edition. Then came uncharted 2 limited edition, dragon age limited edition, god of war III ultimate edition, modern warfare 2 prestige edition, assasins creed black and white edition, i mean, what the hell?
Now i am like: Screw all collectors editions, if i cant have all of them, i wont have any :D.
But still, the modern warfare hardened edition is a must buy for me.
I love limited/collector's edition games as long as the contents of them are physical items and not in game items :)
I hate collectors editions. They used to be just for the elite games and very few and were LIMITED. now they released for every game and cost a fortune. A lot of people are going to be very dissapointed with the modern warfare 2 night vision goggles as they are expecting good working gadget where as cheap night vision goggles cost 300-400 quid so to get them and the game and the soaps head figure for less than £150 they obviously are not going to be any good.
I don't usually buy any collectors edition but did for forza 3 as I felt I would be missing out on content if I didn't such as the extra cars and being given better treatment in the auction house and store front. This should not happen why should I be deprived of part of the game. I hope this is not the way its going I spend enough on games as it is without having to get collectors editions.
I love collectors' editions for the stuff you get in them. Generally I don't buy game merch, but when I can get it with a game...
I don't generally bother if it's just got a cardboard sleeve, and a comic or something. But the big ones like AC2 Black Edition(which has now been taken off the website) which comes with a figure and book and stuff. I got the Fallout 3, Halo Wars and Fable 2 collectors' editions, I loved the Fallout 3 one with the bobblehead, art book and lunchbox, and was gutted when Fable 2's colectors edition was cut down(the Hobbe figure that should've been in was referenced to in the DVD that came with the CE, at the end it had some competition to involving the figures, talk about twisting the dagger...).
The only recent LE i have bought is Forza 3.
I would have got Resi 5 LE but i bought it for both Ps3 and 360 so i stuck with the normal.
Before Forza 3 LE the last one I bought would be Forza 2 LE
Yeah and first and currently last limited edition which i bought was Re5 limited steelbook edition for ps3.
Another thing that i noticed is that with so many so called limited editions, it looses its value, if you know what i mean.
Its like: Hey, i bought that limited edition! There are only a... million of those in the world...
Yeah, i agree with you guys.. It's worth it for the big titles, but not for silly games that nobody wants anyway haha!
The last special edition i bought was the steelbook resi 5 on xbox, but i don't think i've ever bought anything limited edition like that... Although! That's about to change! I gave my gf my xbox, and aages back reserved the limited edition 5000 in uk (Seems a lot, but it really isn't when you think about it) Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 Super Elite :) So it has some half arsed graphic design on there i know, but it's the fact that it's different to most other peoples consoles, and got a 250gb hdd :) It's good value though! the normal elite is £199.99 alone in many places, whereas at game im getting 2 controllers, headset as usual, the big hdd and the game, for £250 - which i don't feel is a very bad price tbh!
I doubt they will, but the only other games i would even consider a special limited edition version of though are Left4Dead 2, and of course, Dead Rising 2. So.. on that note.. pleaaase guys, make sure we get a limited edition Dead Rising 2 and i'll buy it! lol - That'll make it totally worth it for the Capcom bigwigs! I love Dead Rising, haha i don't play story though, i just drive the cars and motorbike in the parking lot running as many as i can over until it breaks.. then i crowd hop :)

i got a few collectors eds in my time ODST being the last one, came with a free controller! Im not gonna bother with any of the MW2 eds as they have nothing that i want in them. sure the night vision googles might look cool but im not paying more than double the price of the game for them. I heard the standard game is gonna cost £55! Seems like too much for one game
I don't disagree with limited/collector editions, it's like if you want them, buy, if not, nothing stops you from buying the normal one at the regular price.
Last one I bought was the RE5 one, regarding MW2, I'm a fan of the series, but won't pay +£20 for an art book. I know it also has a download code for the original game, but I'm not interested in this one.
Limited = good if price isn't too high, otherwise not buying it.
The MW2 collector's edition is so stupid with the night vision goggles, I would have to be a very big fan to buy it.

No, the hardened edition only has a metal boxing and an artbook, but the download code is only in the prestige edition

My CE collection is as follows:
Onimusha 3 CE
Resident Evil 4 CE
Silent Hill 2 CE
Devil May Cry 4 CE
Resident Evil 5 CE
Uncharted 2 CE
Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time CE (picking it up on Friday)
And probably some more that I can't remember. I'm a big fan of CE versions for any game that I'm anticipating, as you can see. Although I wouldn't go for the extravagant ones like the MW2 Veteran Edition or whatever it's called, I will buy some variant.
I really want the GOWIII Ultimate Edition that was recently announced. However, I'll probably have to import if Sony get stingy with its release outside of the US.

Thanks for the post, Bobafet!
I didn't realise that God of War 3 was going to have a Collectors Edition.
I saw pictures of it, and must get it! Shame I can't find it on any websites around the UK, yet. :(
Im getting the Goggles biatches!!!!!111 lol lol
Sorry couldnt resist. I know fully well they wont be proper goggles, but seeing as HMV online are the only place doing it, there isnt that many gonna be made for UK I would assume, and the goggles will come in handy when looking to find my black dog in the dark in the woods a bit!!

I find the Game exclusive, Capt. Soap statue (http://www.game.co.uk/PS3/Shooter/First-Person/%7Er343380/Call-of-Duty-Modern-Warfare-2-Limited-GAME-Exclusive-Veteran-Package/), a better investment... :p

Lol, yea, I also ordered the £120 edition of Modern Warfare 2. :p
Dunno why, as I'm not even a die hard fan of the series, but I guess hide and seek with night vision goggles, in the woods, would be awesome. :D
God of War 3 collectors edition has a replica of Pandora's box, which contains the game in a tinned edition case (from the look of things), a book full of artwork, the soundtrack, and there were like 2 or 3 things, which I've forgotten about, but yea. Looked awesome. :D
I really want the Final Fantasy: Dissidia Collectors Edition on psp.
I dunno what it is, but I just prefer collectors editions over anything else. GTA had the best one so far.
With that, I got GTA4, a Rockstar bag, a Rockstar solid metal logo keyring, a safety deposit box, an artbook, and I think the soundtrack.....I dunno, it was something on a cd, I think, but yea all for £70 (I think it was). ;)

Actually the Hardened Edt does have the code according to Game, thats the one I pre-ordered anyway, got all the other CoD Ltd Edt though but the Prestige one is ridiculous & Ive lost interest in the series after WaW.

Yea, and originally they wanted about the same as the HMV one, the figurine does look good, but I bet I can grab it for £40 in 3 months time with the game... which ill probably get for my dad lol
I always buy collector's editions of games, even if I'm not that bothered about the game, because there's always the possibility that I'll fall in love with the game then be stuck with a standard edition. If I just buy a standard edition, I always feel like I'm missing out on something.

Sony said that they'll announce GOW 3 CE for Europe, but it might be different :)

That wasnt a correction, i was wrong, you were right.
I got confused by my local gaming shop where they said hardened edition doesnt have the cod code, sorry.
Its the same as re5 SLE, just a metal case and a bonus dvd...
I'm up for the steelbook editions of games, I have Gears of War 2 Red steelbook and the Monochrome steelbook, plus Bioshock Steel/Book, RE4 S/B, RE5 S/B, Dead Rising S/B, Lost Planet S/B, Halo 2 S/B, Doom 3 S/B and Jericho S/B, I prefer the metal book editions!
What I want to see that will really pee people off is editions with extra levels not available on the ordinary plastic box releases, really make it worth my while.
Bring on the STEEL BOOKS :chin:
I'll generally buy a collectors edition if I'm interested in the game/like the series or really want the game, for cod wm 2 (not really a huge fan of the series) I just got the regular as I didn't care too much for the special ones as I heard some feedback on them.
Loved the Dead Rising collectors edition btw, that little map of the mall was the smallest adition and was just nice to have that kind of detail (it was really handy to use too).
I just wish we got all the ones Japan got as well, had to import a few games in the past to get the special bits and bobs.
I just got bioshock 2 special edition and its... amazing, im blown away. The artbook has more than 150 pages(its a solid book), soundtrack on cd and vinyl(its vinyl, right?), 3 posters and the game, just pure awesomeness. This, right here, is the only limited edition worth buying, better than mw2 prestige and upcoming gow III ultimate edition
