Capcom is bringing the MT Framework to Wii

As the engine that powers Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2, Capcom's internal MT Framework is arguably one of the finest multiplatform engines for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Now it looks like Capcom will be attempting to make the engine shine on another platform.

They already have a good graphic engine for Wii: it's been used for Resident Evil 4. ;)

The MT Framework it's good for next works.

While it's great that they're bringing such a useful and versatile engine to the Wii, I don't think it necessarily suggests Resident Evil 5 for the Wii. The game would still need to go through a thorough development cycle in order for it to work on the Wii, due to the fact that it was made for more powerful hardware. Now I'm not sure if games made on the engine can easily be lowered in terms of hardware suitability (dumbing down) on the engine, thus being ported to the designated console. Either way, there's still work to be done.

It's not the same as Resident Evil 4 going from Gamecube to PS2 to Wii, as the hardware on all three consoles isn't vastly different, nor were the capabilities. It's a different kettle of fish where the Wii and the PS360 are concerned.

Now, you could bring up Dead Rising and how it went from the 360 to the Wii, yet I don't think the two games are comparable. One was released early on in the 360's lifespan, whereas one was released this year, with notably superior technology and production values. This - to me - suggests that Resident Evil 5 would be more difficult title to dumb down and port. Heck, Dead Rising wasn't exactly done right as dumbing it down to the point where there were only ever 20+ zombies on screen at once (effectively making it devoid of the entire point of Dead Risng) made it rather disappointing.

On the other hand, it could be plausible, given the Alternative Edition releasing next year. Maybe there will be some time and effort put in to a Wii version, with the MT Framework giving the idea a bit more of a foundation. Easier said than done.

Yet for a fan of the series such as myself, I think I'd rather see the time and money being dedicated to Resident Evil Portable or whatever else is planned for the series in the future. Is there really a need for a Wii port? Or is it just because Wii fans feel left out and think they deserve everything the PS360 gets? There's a reason the Wii is aimed at a different crowd to the PS360. Otherwise, I'll sit here and demand The Darkside Chronicles for the PS3, despite it being made with the Wii's hardware in mind, just as RE5 was designed with the PS360's hardwares in mind.

this is a step in the right direction. too many developers on the wii have made the mistake of trying to squeeze as much graphical capability out of the wii as possible, leavimg little processing power for anything else. it's so nice to see a company looking at ways to enhance the gameplay and physics of it's wii games
