View Full Version : Linux on ps3
**Has any one here got it installed on their ps3?
I am thinking about it but need some advice.
Note ** only older PHAT models have the option.
:chin:The new ones don't? I didn't knew that.
Nope, I never felt tempted to do that, I don't see a point in having it, I've 2 computers at home, no need to install Linux on PS3.
But as far as I know Yellow Dog Linux is the official distro.
i think all original (phat) ps3's have the option. only the slim is excluded.
it was because companies were buying ps3's as cheap supercomputers.
i haven't installed linux, i really dont see the point. who in their house has a console, but not a computer?
thats the reason i think facebook on xbox is a stupid idea aswell.
the only reason i would download it is if i wanted to programme a game on it.
I wouldn't really recommend it unless you know programming language, even then your PC is more functional.
thanks for the info. I think I will not bother.:scared:

I know I'll be using it. It's just more convenient. It means I don't have to have my laptop/PC turned on to look at Facebook and I can download demos and stuff while looking at Twitter and Facebook, listening to music through last.fm and talking over MSN. It just makes my life the tiniest bit easier.

true, but you can't upload photos or anything like that. you can do facebook on the ps3, it just takes a while for the web browser to start.
well, at least it's free. i dont like bashing other consoles extras if they're free, i mean, whats the use? its not hurting anybody..and its free!
the only reason why i said facebook on xbox is stupid is because they could of spent their time developing something more usefull than that, and i think its just another sales pitch from a tiny bit desperate microsoft.

That is a future app.

i got into the testing thing for facebook. It looks pretty good, the photos you already have on there look real good and you can view them in slideshows
I do agree though, it is pointless having it on console. The only thing I really wanted was Zune because I hate downloading videos, much better just to stream things but then that's kinda what Youtube is for.....
