One question that is exercising the investors is how Nintendo will handle the economics of that project. Will it just be a technological beef-up of the Wii platform - a Wii2 - or will the famously innovative company take things in an entirely new direction?

And amid the adulation, some gamers, too, are wondering whether the Wii has reached its limits. Its graphics are perfectly good, but the machines lack of computing horse-power is evident when its games are compared with those on the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360.

Analysts are worried that the companys historical practice of "front-loading" its software line-up - squeezing at least 70 per cent of the most attractive titles into the consoles first two years - may force the timing of a Wii2 more fiercely than in the past.

However, it is not just the traditional gamers who are thinking beyond the Wii. The ever-growing "casual" gaming community - those people tempted into the world of video games for the first time by either the Wii or Nintendos handheld DS console - may not necessarily be satisfied for much longer.

Of course they will release a Wii 2 but not for another 2 years at least. Most of these experts seem to just spout obvious statements so they look clever.

That isnt really the statement they are making though.

They are suggesting that the console may be closer than we think.

Given that the 360 and PS3 lifespans are suppossed to be between 7-10 years, most people were expecting the Wii to do at least 3/4 of this, but this is suggesting a possiblility of only 1/2 of the lifespan, or less.

Maybe that s why Nintendo decided to announce this Motion plus upgrade for the Wiimote.
I think this could improve the Wii a lot.

It is interesting that to out-do the competitors, the next console would have to be quite expensive...whilst to equal the competitors (at the moment), itll be the same price.

But to mostly keep the casual market, it has to be powerful...but cheap.

If Nintendo can pull it off, ill be impressed.
