View Full Version : Community Xmas party

Yup, I'm organising it for real, I wasn't kidding. Unless something beyond our control happens, it will be on Saturday 5th December in a London venue, starting at around 2pm. Unfortunately there are 2 things that some of you will be unhappy about 1) it's strictly over 18s and 2) we had to limit the spaces somehow, so it's by invitation only. The third sad thing is that unfortunately I don't have a travel expenses budget, which means that I can't even help those living abroad.

Anybody from outside the UK who would like to/can come?

JoaoPT
19-10-09, 13:32
Not sure if I can go. :chin:

I'll check with some friends if they can receive me or not.

itsmyyard
19-10-09, 14:11
Main question I have is what time would it likely be finished?

Tenebra
19-10-09, 14:18
The main question is, what time are you guys going to decide you want to leave :p

I've opted for an early start on purpose as I know some people will have to travel back before it gets too late. I'd say the party will sort of finish at around 8pm but we'll still have a reserved area in the venue, we can keep going if we want to. The tab will probably be done by that time but drinks are very reasonably priced, crazy super fashionable bar prices.

Soop

Sounds kind of interesting.
Saturday is probably doable. Is it one invite each, or can we bring someone?
*edit* you said 2pm start
Is it just chilling at some bar? or like a ... party or something?

Tim-san

As the places are relatively limited it's going to be one invite per person, I'm afraid.

More than just chilling, there'll be a few special things we're working on ;)

Soop
19-10-09, 15:22
Gah. I'm torn.
I don't know if I want to go all that way on my own. I'll see if my best friend has a house in London by then. I think it's quite far away from another of my friends.

I'd be more likely to go if Draconacticus goes, but he's in Scotland on Holiday this week.

*edit* and I did say I'd make you a cake Ten. Which means baking on a Friday night. Probably not going to happen.

Tenebra

You keep an eye on your inbox and pray :p Alternatively, you can send me presents - flowers, champagne and fine wines are all very welcome :D

CaptainCortez
19-10-09, 15:36
Well I'm definitely interested in this. If it came to it, I'm sure some of us could meet at Charing X and find the venue together. If Sinister and Charmed are going, I'd arrange something with those two anyway. :)

Sounds cool and even better, the drinks are priced well. Also, helllllllllllllllllo tubemole! Lol.

Can't wait to see everyone again. I feel so lonely up here. ;(

I think Christmas cards to the folks at Capcom would be a kind gesture from those invited, no? ;]

BAGSY THE RUDEST ONEEEEEE.

Soop
19-10-09, 16:22
Off topic, but I knew you from somewhere Carbonox, and I couldn't think where. I figured it was here.

Then I remember you were on PSU years ago (I think you made at least one sticky in the MH forum). You were all over that place!

Or small christmas pressies. XD

Ten and Tubemole will probably be there, but not sure who else, apart from some of us from here, of course. :p

Tenebra
19-10-09, 16:46
Of course I'll be there (and so will Mr Mole). I'm pretty sure that Leo will also turn up unless he's got previous engagements, and there will be other Capcom staff you can torment :D

Carbonox_Ratchet
19-10-09, 16:47
I have the ideal present; me in a giant christmas pudding. You wheel me in and out I pop with a Father Christmas beard and an elf mask covering my goods. It is an over 18 party anyway...ahem...

Hi Soop, you'll find me on the US PlayStation forum primarily (other than here); I get around a fair bit too due to my job.

CaptainCortez
19-10-09, 16:53
Lol, that was bad, I meant to say you would be there definitely as you're arranging it, but tubemole would probably be there with a few others.

Lol, I'm honestly not that stupid. I have brain power, but obviously forgot to use it in that statement. :p

Anybody travelling down want to get together and share a hostel? There are some quite good ones like this place:

http://www.piccadillyhotel.net/

On the 5th, a 4 bed share is £23 each and an 8 bed share is £20 each, if there are a lot of us we could book out one or more entire rooms, would make sense for guys lik jarlino and joao who i imagine will want to come.

Edit:Reception is open 24hrs a day so no worrys about partying deep into the night!

Carbonox_Ratchet

I might have to take that on-board, Jack. Thanks for the info.

I'm sorry Carbonox..........as wonderful as you are, I'm sorry to say that I do not approve.

No stamp of approval, no rights to do it! :p

Hmm, a stamp of approval could be quite painful if you're not going to be wearing much....plus something might go severely wrong when it gets frost bite, due to the coldness of the air. ;)

:O December 5th is actually a Dutch holiday (Sinterklaas. Google it, it's fun!), so even IF I had the money and time to come, ánd get invited, it just wouldn't happen... Too bad, it seems like SO much fun to see some Capcommers sometime! Well, have fun guys, and think of me when you see some Felyne hanging around ^^

Jarlino

OH GOD, IT'S THE OTHER THING.

*Ahem*

I'll be there.
The holiday Blok mentioned is known but not celebrated in Belgium, and even then I'd dump it to do this with you guys. <3

Jack's idea for the shared hotel rooms is a solid one but...
I already asked a friend beforehand if I could stay at her place.

If you guys are looking for budget though, try the Turbine, I usually stay over there when I have business in London. ;)

Elite is on a mission! lol

Im really am tempted to come. It means though getting 2, 12 HOUR buses, 1 that arrives dead early in the morning roughly, and the next leaving on the opposite end of the scale the same day. But ive done that before when working for xleague so that isnt an issue.

Only thing i have though, is i dont think I could go by myself, i think i may need to have an invite for a friend if i was able to make it, because trust me, 12 hour bus rides next to strangers are not fun!! lol

Sinister
19-10-09, 21:23
12 hour bus ride?!!? thats harsh, i thank my lucky stars i live in london, and elitefreg, no need to get angry, this isnt one of those things ppl can just sign up to the forum and then turn up at the xmas do, invite only means just that

oh and im free for this, but i might not be able to make it for 2pm

I'm not a big forum person tbh, I only signed up because I know captain cortez and wanted to go to some events with him.
Don't get me wrong, I'd post if I saw a topic that spurred my interest though.
And I'm all for actually MEETING members IRL.
I quite enjoyed meeting everyone at the bionic commando event.
It's a shame I had lectures during the RE event though.
Oh well, I'd love to come to the event but I doubt littering the forums with spam posts here and there filled with nothing but moot opinions and hearsay would make me any more eligible a community member.
Give me something juicy to post about Elite :)

No arguing please ;)

Id love to come, especially if I can afford it (which I think I would be able to if I start saving now). Though I'd also love to bring Lindsey with me, but 1 invite only means that there is a distinct possibility that I'll have to skip yet another get together *cries*

Lateral thinking, TZM! Lindsey is already registered, get her to be more active :p

Unfortunately limited tickets means that the community has the priority, it'd be unfair for me to give spaces to guests if we don't have enough for the community.

20-10-09, 16:39
I bet the recession means limited tickets. And they said it was over, ha!

Anyway, sounds good. Once again, if you need an extra pair of hands, I should be up for it (unless I somehow fall down a hole somewhere).

So it's near Charrings cross right?
I was talking to a girl I know on Facebook and she was like "Oh I live in London now!" so I said I might be there, and was she anywhere near charrings cross, and she was like "I could be!"

Tenebra
22-10-09, 16:01
Near London Bridge. That's all I'm going to say :p

Just to clarify, it's a close party. Until 8pm no-one who doesn't have an invite and is on the guest list can get in. Please don't start inviting friends and acquintances as they won't be let in.

Look at soop going all smooth!Should I bring my Lips cd and microphones so we can have some singing?! :p

Soop
22-10-09, 16:13
oh yeah, I meant I'd meet her after.
so it's not at the office? I've been near London bridge:

Went to a training thing some years back. I was a sys admin, and they were only paying me £10,000 a year, but they expected me to pay my own expenses before re-imbursing me (right at the end of the month). Well I couldn't pay my hotel bill, and the actual training girl put it on her companies card for me.
Got to London, and not only could I not get even £5 out, the machine took my cash card. I'm in London, somewhere near London bridge with no money. Not even enough for the subway. I have to get to paddington, so I find a map and start walking.

2 hours later I find another map. I've barely moved. I start to worry, as I have a train ticket, but at this rate? Anyway I find another skater and start talking to him, and eventually we get to slam city skates where his flatmate lends me the £2, and I get to the trainstation for the last train, and home by 3am, where I have to walk 3 miles home.

Fun fun fun -___-

Soop
22-10-09, 16:18

OMFG YES  what songs are on it? I have singstar ballads and legends...

On the disk there are 40 full songs from the likes of Nirvana, Editors, Depeche Mode,Duran Duran,Kaiser Chiefs, Maroon ,etc.

You can see the full list here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_in_Lips) .

I got more songs downloaded but I would have to bring the xbox 360. :p

There is a new one as well with a few recent songs which I might get soon when I have money. It has that Barbie Song on it so that would be instant non stop laughing! The list for it is here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_in_Lips:_Number_One_Hits).

I'm curious as to what the dress code is, which depends on the type of place this party will be at. Then there's whatever is planned for late night stuffz.

It's my Birthday in 2 weeks so I guess spoiling myself with clothes shopping is in order? Oh I think so too. I've already found the most awesome cardigan in the world. <3

CaptainCortez
29-10-09, 12:41

Be sure to find a topic here with me and everyone else wishing you a happy birthday, anyway.

What date is the day of your birthday anyway?

Hmm, that's for dress code, I would have thought it's just like normal, but then again it really would be funny if we were all made to dress up as Capcom characters. ;)

I doubt it'd be formal wear to be honest.

I went ahead and bought a new t shirt for Eurogamer tomorrow. With the theme I am going for, no one will think I forgotten NiGHTS. I found a nice cardigan too in H & M that I want to buy!Well, I guess that I need something new to wear to this party too. :D

Carbonox_Ratchet
29-10-09, 12:57
Not big on Topman. Unless you shop on their site, their in-store range is rather shoddy.

H&M is alright but the one here is female-only.

A new River Island opened up though so I'll be browsing through there soon; reliable shops these are.

14th of November, Cortez.

CaptainCortez
29-10-09, 13:04
Cheers, and yea, I always shop online with topman.

I know my sizes, so it's fine, but when you go into one of their actual stores, they always have hardly any stock in comparison to their website. Bit of a letdown really, but I guess online shopping saves me the effort of getting the train to my closest Topman store.

River island is too overpriced, I feel. Officer's club is alright though, and not ever shopped at H&M, so wouldn't know about that.

I just get the majority of my clothes from topman now, as I like how the clothes fit me (their clothes are a nicer fit on me than any other shop, for some reason), plus they have some really funky t-shirts now and again.

charmed699
29-10-09, 13:10
I like shopping in stores as I really like trying on clothes.I think H & M has a voucher that gives students 15% off this weekend too! When Uniqlo has the gaming range I like to go there and check it out too... :p

There is still a whole month before it happens so lots of time to find something. I expect lots of presents from you guys! ;)

CaptainCortez
29-10-09, 13:13
Haha, lots of presents. :p

Basically every forum member will now go, and demand presents from each other. This sounds like a setup for a mass murder, due to somebody not buying them their favourite action man for christmas. XD

What's Uniqlo? I haven't ever heard of it.

French Connection (who I haven't ever shopped with) sometimes has gaming tee's, which look pretty cool.

The T-shirts are special editions that come in every summer. New ones every year. This year there was some serious CAPCOM love in it; Megaman, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter Tri (no really). They even had Tatsunoko Production prints in the range this year.

All I need for cosplay completion is the arm which I'm supposed to be starting tomorrow, and a wig. :p

I have no way to put the sword together though, so it's just a sword shaped block of wood with a brake handle next to it, and a holding handle at the minute. :(

Can you post up some pics? I wanted to make s MH sword for halloween, but I never get round to it.

And bleagh to topshop etc.

I can in about a month, when I get my Sony Ericsson Satio phone....which I've been waiting for, for a year.

Has a 12.1 mega pixel camera, but yea not actually got a cam myself, and my brother sold his good one. :(

I figured the best way to make one was probably polystyrene or balsa with some kind of coating.

paper mache is the way forward....

CaptainCortez
30-10-09, 15:15
Probably, but in that case, mine won't help you.......it's made out of solid oak.

Oak's pretty cheap in france, so to get enough wood for a life sized Nero Red Queen, it was only just under £13.

Damn heavy. I can lift it with one hand, but if you swing this thing, it'll be like monster hunter......there will be no stopping the momentum of it.

I found this out the hard way, when I took a tiny bit of the end of my sword off, after it collided with a bench in my bedroom, and made a huge gouge in the bench. So yea, lighter material may not look as effective, but it's a lot easier for swinging around etc.

I've gotta buy red ribbon to go around the handle, and find a spring to fit the brake into the handle, so I can pull it, instead of it just loosely hanging in there.

Also gotta fix the handle into the sword dead straight, so dunno how I'm going to do that. :/

Wood glue is good for anything really, but good thing about using it on actual wood is that it makes a bond, stronger than the actual wood itself.

Still, I'm hoping it won't snap when I do it, as the handle is long, but not as heavy as the main supposed blade, which is just shaped like one, and looks more like a bludgeoning weapon, haha.

Nah, the shape's good, and I worked out all of the measurements in my head, then just drew them on the wood, and cut it out with my uncle. Looks awesome. Surprised we shaped the wood so well.

Anyway yea, I'll get pics up when I can man. :)

Soop

Yeah, probably for the coating. YOu wouldn't want to make the whole thing out of it obviously, it would never dry.

Haha, cheers man. Will hopefully get there in the end. :p

Right, back to the christmas party.....I won't ask who's going, as it's unfair on those who may not have been invited, or can't go.....but I will say I'm really looking forward to it. :D

Something different to normal, as to be honest, I haven't been to a christmas party since I finished infant school.

Everyone's boring here and only really celebrate the new year, and sometimes have halloween parties, but yea. Zombie walk tomorrow will set my halloween day up well. :D

Everyone wanna do christmas cards for each other, or at least for Ten?

I think it'd be nice to get her something, and it can't hurt to give each other christmas cards.

Will be nice meeting up again. :)

chaosriotzero

CaptainCortez
30-10-09, 19:29
A dance off? I'd fail, but hey it'd be fun.

Is anyone coming a monster hunter? Or if not, do you have a PSP, and what games do you have?

I'll definitely be bringing mine (train/bus etc) and here's the games I could take:
Burnout legends
Streetfighter alpha 3 max
MHFU
The 2 GTAs... um.. I forget what else I have.

Jarlino
06-11-09, 11:12
I was thinking about leaving mine at home, or at least not pulling it out at the party.

Maybe I'm one of the last of my kind, but I'm the type of guy who feels like hanging out and party'ing at a party, and not taking over one corner with gaming.

Then again, We're going out the night before the party to buy my host a pink psp as an early Christmas, so I'm probably bringing mine in the end, to help her play. xD
Depending on what is defined by party'ing, I'll have it in my manbag. ;)

The Capcom xmas party; in which we all travel to London for a game of naked twister. ;)

Yeah, I'm debating whether to stay out or not too. The travel options for coming/going are far less expensive if you pick a specific time to set out and leave. I think the megabus is as cheap as £1 up to an open ended train ticket at something like £50 >__< and the hotel options in London too. I have another anecdote about that as well, and lets say that policemen in London must be getting paid so much that they have a very loose grasp of the meaning "cheap".

I think I'm staying over in a hotel. The other half is down in London that weekend too having a girly night with her friends (talking about ribbons and kittens or whatever it is they gossip about) so might as well make a weekend of it :)

Also, the police in London have a loose grasp of many things. I was shot in the back with an air rifle outside Clapham North tube station when Mrs D. lived there many moons ago. Apparently that's not a serious crime.

CaptainCortez

Haha, well you had something planned, so that still gives me an excuse not to bring my psp. Besides, I only have single player games for it. :(

I did have multiplayer ones, but I don't know if someone stole them when I went on holiday, or they're just lost, as I have 7 games with nothing in the case. Pretty much sucks.

I have no death junior, no burnout legend, no metal gear acid, and whatever the other 4 games were. They're just gone, but oh well.

Oh man, I'm sorry. Burnout legends was a fantastic game. Wow, burnout legends is still £17 on amazon O__O Dominator is even more. Put it's about £9 on play, and you can pick up acid and death jr on amazon for about £4 each if you feel you want them back :)

I thought it was carpet slippers and a smoking jacket that separated the men from the boys?

Alex you fancy getting a hostel together bro?

this place looks decent and its cheap too, like 15 to 30 quid depending on what type of bed:

you need to book early with london though, so i'd advise everyone wanting accomodation to book at least a week b4 the date otherwise you may be dissapointed.

Sorry for messing you around ten, but I don't think I can go. for a few reasons:

1. If I tell mum and dad I got invited from a forum they'll automatically refuse to let me go.

2. They let people brainwash them i.e. thinking that all forums are bad because of some stupid young girl going on chat lines and getting led on by some idiot.

3. I'm autistic, and I find it hard to communicate with people who work at the trains.
:(

Again apologies everyone.......

No worries, you're not the only one who finds it difficult to talk to the people in the train stations. I think they make things unneccessarily hard...

CaptainCortez
16-11-09, 10:01
Well, I was asking some arsey worker at the train station, which platform I should get on from Charing X to Hastings once.

I was rudely answered with: "Look at the damn screens. They're there for a reason."

I thought that was uncalled for, and just laughed and walked off. If it was on the screens at the time, I wouldn't have been asking what platform to get on, as they were the first things I looked at.

Some people shouldn't have a job, if all they're going to do is be rude to people.

I'm okay, as I don't let people like that get to me too much. Other people on the other hand are less confident, and if somebody speaks down to them in that manner, then they will probably avoid asking people important information for the rest of their life (in fear of being made to either look stupid, or worried they'd be downtrodden).

draconacticus
16-11-09, 10:17
Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about finding it hard to communicate with the train staff. I think we all do. Mostly because they are the most unhelpful people in the world.

If you ever call national rail enquiries it is an absolute waste of time. The staff mostly are using a geordie dialect I can't understand and they seem to have no information of any use at all, especially if there are rail repairs going on - you need a phd in order to travel by rail on a bank holiday.

:(

Again apologies everyone.......

kuche kuche! I am autistic too! ;) and the fact that I cant do anything good is something very strange I like about myself.

the only thing i can do good is ICT which is also very useless if you work as a worker in to a giant company designed especially for people who have fisycal or pshyso disabilities. little detail those ICT technics is in the autistic not the normal guy woman way. stupid but very clever example: how can i protect a pc without any protection... . or how can I do things that are illegale on a pc that actually are legal... . how old are you?

Guys, I don't believe this is the place for that.
And don't think so badly about yourselves.

If you can prove for yourself that you can do stuff despite what the docs say, you can achieve wonderful things.

Well, as wonderful as it can be to moderate a gaming company's forum, while juggling it with a job as Hazaroud materials agent and still being able to travel and hang out with people. :)

Cheer up, with the spirit of Christmas, 365 days a year!

Diifii, as much as I'd like to talk with you about the old times and your videos of losing fighting games against a frog-sock puppet, Tenebra already mentioned that the party was only open to people over the age of 18.

Also, the guest list is already closed at this point, so no dice.
