Hey. Ive recently found myself enjoying older games more than the newest ones, especially ps1 games. Can anyone suggest any ps1 games worth buying?
My favourite genres are RPG, horrors and some action games. There are exceptions within the other genres though...plenty of them.

Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Vagrant Story
An under-appreciated RPG by Square, one of the best PSone games ever made, it goes pretty deep and it lets you carry over your character in to a new game when you complete it so it has an especially long lifespan.
Parasite Eve 2
A pretty rare gem on an RPG also by Square, its set in the modern-day, so its a nice break from swords and dragons, it has guns and mutants instead :P.
Team Buddies
A more interactive take on stategy, its easy going and pretty funny.
Silent Hill, the first game in the series.
A lot of people say that Silent Hill 2 is the best game in the Silent Hill series, some of those opinions are valid, most are not because most have not played the original PSX game that started the whole series off.

I didnt like SH2, it just felt tame, I consider SH3 to be the true sequel.

Heart of Darkness
I played it on pc, but I doubt that it s any different on ps1.
The gameplay is kind of a mix of jump&run, action, and a little puzzle sometimes.
I just love it. If I made a ranking of my favourite games it would definitely be in the top 10.
But maybe that s just because I know it for such a long time and it brings back some memories.
So you probably might have a look at some reviews before buying.
Unfortunately there s no sequel and it s kinda short when I play it today. But that s probably because I basically know it by heart.
Some years ago it should be ported to gba, but I think it was too much for this console to handle (unfortunately).
Writing this made me want to play it again... (and that s what I ll do now)
The SpiderMan games are pretty good, I liked Tomb Raider 5 as well.

Id recommend Grandia its a cheesy but its a great RPG with the best turn based battle system ever (better then its sequel)
Front Mission 3 Its a turn based Strategy RPG game with a really good plot.
Also Star Ocean the Second Story is a nice RPG with tons to do and see.
777, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.. NO. too hard for non-Castlevania players. I once played Castlevania SOTN as my first Castlevania game, I thought it sucked, then long time later after a long 2D ride starting with Metal Slug to 2D Metroid games to the Castlevania series, I started enjoying them. you need some special 2D platform practice before playing SOTN. and no, Mario games dont work because they play completely different.
same goes for FF7, you have to be a RPG self-punisher thats ready for some suffering by this god awful ANOTHER-bad RPG. you could as well buy E.T for Atari, FF7 and that are kinda samey, so.. yeh. buy it if you want to make yourself suffer by some guy that has no taste in games.
I recommend Dino Crisis 1 and 2, Resident Evil 2!!! aaaagh!, also Resident Evil 3, oh.. and.. buy RE1 too if youre into boring games like most members here, you NEED Silent Hill 1, oh and Tekken 3, Gex 3D: Enter The Gecko (because its better than Mario 64 and I SAY SO!), Metal Gear Solid is fiiine, and.. Soul Blade ..man!, Metal Slug X (YOU NEED THAT ONE! its so awesome), Oddworld Abes Oddysee (omg best 2D adventure platformer ever on the PS1, still doesnt top the 2D Metroid games), Nightmare Creatures, if you liked NC1 you need to buy the second one too, Oddworld Abes Exoddus, Bloody Roar 2 (its.. pretty bad-ass)

Can I also recommend FF9. Loved that game.
Jedi Power battles. So good if you have a friend to play it with. <--- episode 1 by the way.

Harvest Moons also worth a try its great to relax and farm sometimes.
Breath of Fire 3 is another RPG worth grabbing also.
Wild Arms is a old school style RPG nice amount of exploration and the plots Ok.
let me think.......ahha try legacy of kain soul reaver its a long game and enjoyable....heart of darkness which has been mentioned already very cool game my first psx game actually .....oddworld abes oddessy fantastic game....soul blade so of the best sword fighting games on the psx.....crash bandicoot......tekken2.....duke nuke em.....quake 2.....alien trilogy.

Nightmare Creatures 1&2 mainly for a laugh. They are good horror games, but not as good as other competitors.
Alone in the Dark 4: The New Nightmare. Very good game...considering the earlier titles at least :P
Pandemonium 1&2 are excellent games that are just fun to play...not much to them. Just classic gaming.
Abes Odyssey and Abes exodus are also great games that can take ages to complete.
Tom Raider 1,2,3,Chronicles and Revelations are all good games. Though generally 1&2 are the better titles.
The original Spyro games (1&2) are excellent.
Oh, and the Doom series, Resident Evil series, Silent Hill 1, etc.

I probably should have said this before. I have the final fantasy games, resi games (GC) and Silent Hill1 (which is just about better than 2, with 3 being worse than the both of them).
Funnily enough, I have just started bidding for Grandia, which I played when I was but a wee lad.
Vagrant Story...Ill have a look into that.
What about Parasite Eve 1? Or is 2 that much better?
Personally id have to say Legend of dragoon, best rpg i have ever played (...and ive played alot)

Chances are that youve tried most of these games & if you havent you wont like some of the titles because they are already updated in the next gen consoles. If you need some more opinion let me know, at the moment I cant remember all of them ;)

To be honest, all ive played is the second game, cant seem to find the first game anywhere. :cry:
If you like pokemon-esque games then i recommend the original Jade Cocoon.
So many recommendations. Well, Ill have a look into a few of them and see what I feel like buying. I tried Jade Cocoon before. It seemed a little...dark.
Also, I find the Tomb Raider games a load of crap, sorry to say.

Yeah, eBay only has NTSC versions of Parasite Eve 1. Was it even released in the UK?
I dont think it was released in the UK, It may have an american release though.
Are PS2s region-locked? I may give it a try if theyre not.

PS2s are region locked Im afraid. And you may may wanna try bishi bashi if you have your friends over.
If you have an old Psone (the big square block one) you can buy an expansion that fits in the slot at the back that allows you to play region free, and its all legal.
Nope, no PS1 at all. I had it....legally....chipped, you see. Mucked it up completely. There was a reason why the games were so cheap.

Another few games to look out for...The Medievil series...they are so fun to play.

Well First Of You Should Get Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil Directors Cut,Resident Evil Suvivor, Dino Crisis, Dino Crisis 2, Darkstalkers, Darkstalkers 3, Street Fighter The Movie Game, Street Fighter Alpha Seires, Street Fighter Collection 1, Street Fighter Collection 2, Breath Of Fire 3, Breath Of Fire 4, Capcom Generations, Marvel Vs Capcom, X-men Children Of Atom, Street Fighter EX Alpha, Street Fighter Ex 2 Plus And Metal Gear Solid.
Might be some region conflicts in here, but I recommend these titles anyways:
Azure Dreams, Threads of Fate, Ridge Racer 4, Incredible Crisis, Dino Crisis, Wild Arms, Koudelka, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Parasite Eve, Pepsi Man, Star Ixiom, Alundra, Bishi Bashi Special, Klonoa, Mega Man X, Rival Schools, Suikoden.
Oh. My. God. I love Alundra...not so much Alundra 2 though. So much better than any Zelda game out there. Much more story and graphics that no one could hate. A challenge at times, but thats one of the things I like about the game.
