Does anyone know off hand if fans like this actually work? Or are they just a way of getting more money out of gulible mug like me?
I think, I think, I think... you shouldn't build in cooling temperature until you've passed your point of guarantee, since it counts as "modding" your console, thus killing your warranty.
If you already have, and have the skills for it, installing cooling equipment is a great way to prevent overheating, but back in the ps2 era, it didn't do much else. No loading time reduction and nothing noticeable in the sound section. (Creaking noises and grinding machinery).
If you're paranoid about getting a yellow light of death, get it though. ;)

Well I go the YLOD last week and have just got back a refurbished unit today. I thought that it was merely a clip on style attachment?
Sorry, I'm not familiar at all with PS3 Hardware.
Hell, the only reason I know about the YLOD is because I have to counterattack everytime I mention having a 360. <_<
When I got a cooling fan for old ps2, I had to unscrew it and build it into it though ,replacing the old, battered one.
You might want to look at some user review sites about the specific article.
I have one, the power generated by those things is as effective as a soft summer breeze, practically nought.
If you're worried about your PS3 overheating, just have a nice cool room and don't play it for more than 4 hours, common sense really, it saves alot of money. :P
Surely you want an extractor fan not a cooling fan anyway. I'm assuming by cooling fan it'll be blowing in.

I'll not buy any of those, I consider them just a way for extracting us money :trolls:
I would not bother with it TBH.
It has shown with the 360 it can do more harm than good.
I doubt it would do much damage since its powered by USB, not through the power input like the majority of the Xbox360 fans where.
It's really, really weak, yes, it blows in to the console, but all its really doing is stirring up dust inside, you're better off just taking precautions
