PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility could be returning to the PlayStation 3, according to what appears to be an internal document accidentally leaked by Sega of America, one that hints at downloadable previous gen games available on a case-by-case basis.

I would buy a PS3 just to play the Dreamcast games even though I would probably own them already. Hope the xbox 360 gets them too as Virtual On,Trizeal,Rez,etc are already on it and all. :D
Man if this is true it means we can play Shadow of the Collusus and Project Justice, Schnmue and Onimusha and many many other awesome games on the ps3. Please, let it be!

Yeah, but only if you re-buy them digitally.
That's great news for the DC games, especially if we get access to games like Shenmue 1 & 2 (hey, it may even spur SEGA on to release Shenmue 3 and finally finish the series).
But the PS2 games? At least Microsoft let the 360 be backwards compatible, and then released the games digitally.
I'd much prefer it if the PS3 could play PS2 games off the disc, rather than having to either re-buy PS2 games digitally.
I've never been a massive fan of digital distribution, and always prefer to have the physical copy. It'd be great if Sony were to do what icrosoft have done.

Same as i have around 100 Ps2 games and about 12 i would play regularly or did do till my 60GB SKU died

Frustrating. Maybe they could operate some sort of trade system. Where by if you own a digital copy of a game, you send it off and they send you a code to download it for free, or at the least cheaper.
PS2 games on PSP... that is what I want.

Do you mean HDD space?
The PS3 HDD is easy enough and cheap to upgrade.
I have a 500GB HDD in my ps3 and if this dose happen I may get a 1TB HDD
I'm defo really hyped about this. Most classic PS2/DC games are really hard to get a hold of these days, and if you attempt to buy them online, they tend to either be used or really expensive [sometimes both].
I've been downloading a few PSone games already, and I'm not too bothered about digital distribution anymore. If anything, it's just a shame Europe is lagging behind a bit~ Hope that won't be the case with PS2/DC games. [I can't imagine it being the case with 1st party titles anyway]

Dreamcast interests me more so than others, simply because the games themselves are brilliantly underrated, especially some of the classic Capcom fighting gems.
