I recently bought Resident Evil 5 PC version from www.play.com (http://www.play.com) but for some reason the installguide is in Japanese. It seems Capcom made an error with the setup.ini file on the disc.

The only way to come around this problem is to copy all files from the disc to a temporary folder. Manualy edit the setup.ini file with the following change:

Look for this row.
[Languages]
count=9
default=411
Change the default value to 409. Altered [Languages] String should now look like:
[Languages]
count=9
default=409
Close and save the file. Then click on the setup.exe and voliĆ” the install guide will show English text.

Hopefully Capcom will fix this problem in the next batch of discs they send to the retail shops.

It's a known issue, unfortunately it was found after we'd started manufacture of the disks. The installshield should show up fine in EFIGS operating systems, but will default to Japanese and not English in operating systems set to Danish or Swedish, for instance.

There should be a quickstart guide in the box for export stock that shows what the installer looks like in English, did you not have one?
Did you maybe get an import copy from the UK or something?

Here's something from our tech support that should help:

Find the letter of the drive your RE5 PC disk is in (it's E: in my PC, but there's a good chance it's D: in yours - we'll use D: here, just replace it with your own disk drive letter)

Click Start > Run and type in cmd to bring up the command prompt window
type d:
hit return - you should see the command prompt now says D:/>
type setup /L1033 - This will start the installer in English
hit return again.

Remember to swap in the correct drive letter if your dvd drive isn't D:

If you are running Vista, you can find the command prompt under All Programs, Accessories

If you would rather launch the installer in another language, you can also use:
type setup /L1031 = German
type setup /L1045 = Czech
type setup /L1034 = Spanish (traditional)
type setup /L1036 = French
type setup /L1046 = Italian
However, if you do want to use these languages you would probably already have your OS in that language and you should be seeing the installer in the right language anyway.
