Hi

While you're waiting for the latest answers to your recent questions, we would like you to create your control maps based on the current control layout.

Left Stick X-Axis: Steer
Left Stick Y-Axis: Shift Weight
Left Trigger: FrontBrake
Right Trigger: Accelerate
X Button: Back Brake
A Button: Tuck In
Y Button: Gear Up
B Button: Gear Down
D-Pad: Gesticulate
Left Bumper: Look Behind
Right Bumper: Change View

Please could you list an alternative control set using all the buttons laid out here, using the 360 controller as the target.

Please note that you cannot fully steer around the corner with the tuck-in held down, so you'll need to let go of the button for the corners, which means that you cannot use a rubber band to hold the tuck in down.

Thanks and please keep this subject on topic. If you have any negative comments about this post, please create a new thread.

D-Pad: Gesticulate
Left Bumper/Select: Change View
Right Bumper: FrontBrake

Hi all,I hope you can forgive me my poor skills on the keyboard:eek:Heres my normal configuration;RT:Acceleration,LT:Frontbrake,LB:Rea rbrake,Y.Gear up,X.Gear down,B.Look behind. All steering/riderposition on the Left stick.I havent quit figured out one for 09/10,as it is not easy knowing what works without actually playing the game, but I fear it will be a compromise at best.I might drop the rear brake all together, and put the tuck on the LB.I do have room on RB,but in order for that to work I need to be able to operate the gas with my middle finger, while I hold the tuck-in with my pointy one:)(sorry dont know what they are called),and normally I havent been able to do that(operate the throttle with my middle finger)I can do it on Forza,RacePro,and most cargames in general, but i'v never been able to on any bikegames. You just needed too finely tuned adjustments for me to do well with that finger, and I can only do it with my pointy one.Ahh that might just be me with my incredible old hands, and stiff fingers ,but its yet another thing that makes it hard for me to say what whould be the best option. You could also put the tuck on B or one of the other button, but personally I dont want to have to operate two buttons with one finger at the same time, and its one of the compromises I want to avoid.Anyway I have been thinking about it,well I call it thinking, and as I see it both models has there disadvanteges:chin:This controllerconfiguration/button-assignment-situation,being one of them, but it could work,so by all means go for it.Sometimes people just need someone else to take that first step into the unknown, and lead the way to some new enlightment:worthy:

Hi Monumental,I was just going through the list of xbox-accessories,and I noticed quit a few games realising custom controllers with there games, and imo it whould be great if Monumental whould considere the possebility of a custom GP-controller in the future. What im missing is a couple of extra triggers instead of the bumbers. With the controller we have for the xbox you can only assign one of the brakes to a trigger,if you want/need the accelleration on the other.IMO a custome controller could help lift the game to the next level.Just imagine how this could play out.You come down to the corner braking on the front, and as you steer the bike in(hard),the rearend becomes lighter, and starts to come out,you grab the rearbrake around 40-50%,and "back" it into the corner. It whould take some practise, but im sure it whould doable with the right programming.Im thinking 4 triggers 2 in each side.I whould have the 2 on the left for braking, and one on the right for throttle. The last trigger could be for clutch. You could even have extra buttons down the side for the tuck-in,and advanced features like the COD-combatcontroller.Now im not expecting Monumental to have a custom controller ready for 09/10,but I whould be for ever greatful, and its just what the doctor ordered,so the sooner the better;)

I just wantet to add that by making a custom controller, you could probeble improve on controllerfeedback aswell. The xbox-contollerfeedback is ok,but imo has its limits.Controllerfeedback is quit important, and needs to cover a variety of bases.Idealy you want feedback on tracksurfaces, initia from the tires, especially when braking, and also on the suspention working.By building on whats allready there, and stratigically placing more of those small vibrators:),you could do a better job of designing the hole exp.It could make it easier to subconsionsly destingquise between the information you get.Make the information more distingquisable.Whether its the front or the back,track-initia,information from the sus.and help paint a clearer, more detailed picture.I know this sounds abitious, and it whould take some real testing, but I do believe if done right it could refine the exp.Anyway im just saying:)What we have is OK,I guess, but why stop there?

Why not make it fully customizable for every1? It was able to do in the previous games, so why not in this game too?

My only issue with the MotoGP 08 controller is that you can't use the right thumbstick. Both the back and front brackes should be controllable using analogue controls (such as the triggers or thumbsticks) to give the gamer proper control of the bike.

There was one feature with some of the first version of the game that came out for the xbox that have now been left out. I don't know if the feature was intentional or not, but for hard-core MotoGP fans or actual bikers looking for a realistic game it was spot on! The main problem with the simulation modes on the latest few generations of MotoGP (and SBK) games is that there is no way to know what level of grip you have. The graphics and sound give you some indication, but there is no way of knowing where the level of grip ends and you'll fall on your face. For real MotoGP riders this is the worst problem they can have. Having poor grip is actually better than not knowing the level of grip you have, as you end up backing off to make sure you stay on the bike. The simulation mode on MotoGP08 (and SBK 08/09) was the same. Anyway, what they did with the first iterations of the MotoGP games was that they used force feedback to indicate tyre slip. When the rear wheel started spinning/sliding under acceleration out of a corner, or when the front started sliding braking into a corner, you'd get slight vibrations through the controller. The less grip the more intense the vibration. I can't imagine that this sort of feature will be hard to implement (I know that is always easier said than done - I am a developer myself), but for serious gamers, bikers and MotoGP fans this would add a whole new dimension to the game.

I don't think the intention behind the use of force feedback on the earlier versions of the MotoGP games was to similate the "feel" a rider has through the handlebars and footpegs of a bike, but that is still what it gave. Physically it obviously isn't the same, but the after playing the game for a few minutes your brain literally becomes programmed to react to the "feel" the force feedback gives you.

Great post Duffman,I agree about GP08/SBK,and the connection between the lack of controllerfeedback, and not having a good feeling of the level of grip.GP08/SBK only really gave you sound, and visuals, wich is really only 2/3 of the pickture, and you need the controllerfeedback in order to get the hole pickture. It makes for a more imersive game aswell. You want the controllerfeedback to tell you the smoothness of the surface, just as it should tell you about bumbs, and dips in the track, comming down to the corner starting to brake,it should tell you about the increase in initia, and how hard your braking, aswell as give you extra feel for the grip, and initia through the corners.Without the feeling of grip the sensation is only halfway there, and imo the massive grip of the GP-bikes are a big part of what makes them so great. And I do believe it can be done!GP06707 did a fairly good job on this, only those games where in many very arcady, wich also reflectet on the controllerfeedback. But the idear was there, and for sure this can be done.We only need someone with a more realistic vision on how to implement it.As usual I whould turn to TT Superbikes to look for answers:)

I know you asked for xbox, but I only have PS3, so here it goes:

R2: Throttle
L2: Front Brake
Left Joystick: Steering
Right Joystick: Weight Transfer
Triangle: Gear up
Square: Gear down
X: Rear Brake
R1: Look back
O: Reverse

On a side not, I certainly think making it customizable for everyone is definitely the best way to go. I can't stand racing something that doesn't let me control it hte way I want to.

Please have it fully customizable, I always use the right stick for acc and brake. the 360 version of 08 didn't have this and as a result I just couldn't play it.

Yeap , it just has to be fully customized , and not a 2-3 presets , but i mean CUSTOM , every button should be allowed to be programmed ! otherwise you'll cut off big chunk of fun from 'hardcore' players ! ( which i do not consider being myself, just to clear up the picture )

Did we ever find out what was going on in terms of control mapping - will it be fully customizable or won't it?

There won't be fully customizable control mapping in the game, however we did include all of your suggestions for a number of layouts that you can choose from.

I use Right stick for steering and left for acc/brake, am the only one to do this? from what i can see in the PS3 version of the game there is no allowance for this, for me personally it is such a deal breaker to not allow you to set up your own personal preferences. Is there some sort of technical reason for it? or...... does this serve players? just FYI I wouldn't buy a game i couldn't set control prefs on, that seems to be an increasing number of games that are making that oversight, it lands like we cant be bothered to accommodate your needs.

froggie

i have just brought this game for ps3 this evening and i agree with you, i like the controls to be so that i can accelerate and brake on the left stick, and steer on the right stick, so i was pretty dissapointed to find that i was not able to do this! as a result i now have a game which i cannot play :(

does anyone know if it would be possible to make this as a control map and then relase it as an update so that i can play the game?
