Ive been talking to my friends about Resident Evil how the series has split its genre from survival horror (re0,1,2,3,cv) to fps (survivors + umbrella chronicals) to action horror (Re4)

The conversation obviously turned into a discussion of what other game genres could fit into the resident evil universe.

We came to the conclusion that a strategy game from the pov of Umbrella.the Agency or corporation S.

basically the game would be the player controlling one of the companies, trying to make it as successful as possible; by choosing what BOW projects to fund, where to put your facilities, who to employ etc.

of course the player would also be able to send spies to other companies and also would have to decide the best way of managing and cleaning up an outbreak.

We agreed that this was different from previous games in the player controlled the bad guys, so couldnt be part of the main series, but it could just be a game that isnt connected just an alterative style of game.

*****

Im posting that here to get other peoples opinions, would a game like this work? would you play it? give reasons for your thoughts regardless of them being critical or postive Im looking forward to a decent discussion!

Thanks for reading.

basically you pick your company; Umbrella, the agency or organisation s.

Then you have to make that company successful, picking what BOW projects to follow or discard (ie if you think hunters deserve more research then you can put more funds into it)

its upto the player to determine who they hire, what BOWs they research (of course new BOWs must be created perhaps even add a create a BOW feature)

you can send out spies to sabotage or nick secrets and you have to be careful you dont get any yourself.

Also the choice of how to deal with outbreaks? do you send in the soldiers? or do you just blow the place up? or perhaps youll arrange to send in a controlled BOW to clean up for you?

If done as a serious version of the Evil Genius series (i think it was called that)...where you play a bad guy that sets up his evil HQ and then spreads out from there.

You deal with spies, you plant spies, you do the research, you spread out, etc.

It would be interesting. Especially if you saw it from the idea of Umbrella actually built Raccoon City into what we loved...So perhaps you could watch as your business creates a whole city, and then youre able to zoom in on the eventual Outbreak...watching your experiments wreak havoc on the unsuspecting populace.

They could essentially make it as an interactive Archives. So the information that you are given on BOWs and characters would be real...just the events are what if scenarios that the companies have created as back up information.

Would be a great way to open up more information on other companies, and Umbrellas role in other countries, etc.

Myself and several other older members used to talk about these possibilities all of the time.

There was once talk of what an Online RPG could be like (in the same vein as Diablo, as WoW didnt exist then). There was discussion of having it set in either an apocalyptic Alternate Universe, or on an Umbrella owned island where enemies of Umbrella were held as prisoners and used as live bait, etc.

And i think, early on, we discussed the possibility of playing as the BOWs...start off as a zombie in a general Outbreak, and slowly unlock more powerful BOWs to play as in new situations, with new goals, etc.

There are, essentially, hundreds of possible genres that RE could delve in to...but it is whether or not the right team is working on it that would be the question...

Yeah I think we discussed this on the old forum.

But the idea is worth looking into I think. its a great idea and with good discussions could be made into more detailed

Im liking the idea of building up your own company and choosing projects to do.

You could also put in the RE heroes like Leon, Jill etc. and the player has to kill them.
It could be just like the original games then, with the only difference of the player being on Umbrella s side.
Would be a good opportunity to make Wesker a playable character too. You know, if you could control your units like in a first person shooter.
Has anyone played Dungeon Keeper (really old game, but really awesome, too) ? It would have the perfect gameplay for this concept, I think.
