View Full Version : The Last Guardian - PS3
The last guardian, developed by sony's japan studio, and put on display at E3 2009. Supposed to be the most emotional game releasing soon, and a work of art. take a look ->

i swear if the bird dies at the end then i'm not buying it. i'm practically tearing up right now, just thinking about it.

Heh, you can bet that the creature will die at the end. Nothing would be more emotional than to establish a real connection with the character and creature, only to see the creature die at the end. Can't see how the game could inject anything on this magnitude without doing something big.
The game looks great but I'm not too keen on Team ICO's work, simply because they are games that only work for a certain audience. I did love Shadow of the Colossus though but this game looks more like ICO, a title I didn't like.
But hey, it's early days yet so we'll see how they go about developing this. Artistically and innovation-wise, I'm sure this game will be up there among the best. The Last Guardian and Heavy Rain should really play with the gamer's emotions unlike any others.

I love Ico and SotC, and will be buying Last Guardian on the day of release.
Also, there's a chance that the kid could die, not the bird...or the Kid and Bird have to be seperated, but neither of them die.
I suggest you look up the topic by PeterEliot on GameFAQs last Guardian board to see what I'm on about.
PeterEliot also did a plot guide for Ico, and is in the process of doing for for SotC:

well worth the read, as he goes in depth.

I very seldom feel any emotional attachment with a human being as much as I may do with an animal in a game that plays on your emotions; same applies to many people. Something adorable with limited communication gives off the feeling of helplessness. A kid, not so much.
This creature is seemingly unplayable so there's another level of vulnerability there, as you (the child) is given the task of saving both your lives but ensuring that you work together with the creature.
Like I said, I find it a more powerful and emotional prospect than losing a generic child.

It all depends...what if the child sacrifices himself for the Animal?

I still probably wouldn't care. I can't establish a bond with a human character as I may do with an NPC animal. With an animal, you feel like you're responsible for its well-being, otherwise it will be left to wander alone. It's like if your dog went missing, it would be the most painful thing to endure because you're responsible for it. A human is capable of a lot more mentally, and I see that as a sign of invulnerability, whereas a creature that is there to protect you and you to guide it is the opposite.
It's like in Shadow of the Colossus where
*SPOILERS*
Aggro falls off the cliff and is seemingly dead.
*END SPOILERS*
Although he was fine, that one scene was emotional because Aggro was there from the start. He was your trusty steed. In contrast, the whole plot regarding Wander's girl was just meh. No real emotional quality because you knew bugger all about the girl, heh.
The way I see it, Team ICO are not big on explaining. It's down to the player to grasp what's right, what's not and what is really going on. With an animal, it's a lot more clear-cut so you can instantly start to establish a bond. With a human being, it's more predictable and therefore less appealing. Your goal is to save the creature - your friend.
Its my most anticipated game at the moment. I watched that trailer a million times.
Team Ico´s games have always been diferent and special.
honestly i can say, forget the kid, don't care if he dies but the bird is the one i'll have an amazing eulogy for if it dies. i'll make a mini shrine even and make an R.I.P video on youtube.
I hope they will release shadow of the collosus and Ico for ps3 like they want to do with god of war collection, that would be awesome!

I already created a topic for this (http://www.capcom-europe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15671&highlight=%20the%20last%20guardian) as soon as it was announced.:p

Majin: The Fallen Realm (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeO4iuXkn0Q)
A game announced late August by amco/Bandai. Oddly similar to The Last Guardian in Art Style, and gameplay (by the looks of it).
Still looks good though.
Just thought people might be interested to see another Game Developer taking inspiration from Team Ico.
