About time. Just scrap Afterlife and get in on Begins already.

Well, I stand by my opinion and say that RE is better portrayed as a game series rather than a film one.

The films aren't outright terrible, just overestimated, nearly everything has been done in original movies, some of which inspired Resident Evil in the first place. Although many would argue that the plot, not the concept of a film, is the problem, to which I would have to agree, they simply took the bare bones of RE and fleshed them out as they saw fit, not how the games went.

I can't really judge this since it's a vague idea, nothing more, but I can't see any advancement it could possibly make other than sticking close to the core concepts of the game and making a true-to-the-fans enjoyable movie out of them (a la Silent Hill), but it will probably, and always play second fiddle to the games, regardless of how well made it is.

Will this be the better of two evils? I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Maybe its suprising but my favourite re movie is second, by many considered the worst. Why? Well, its closest from all the movies to the original game series - city full of zombies, stars send in and most importantly, nemesis.

If they want to reboot the series, starting with the first movie in a mansion with alpha and bravo squad, i would watch it for sure

It really doesn't seem like it'd be any different from the first Resi film anyway...it'd just be missing Alice, though she'd probably get a replacement anyways.

What would be the point or purpose?

I'd say SONY should get in on the Degeneration style films.

it'll probably before alice lost her memory in the first movie. because didn't they say milla jovovich already signed on?

She's signed on for the fourth film but not for the reboot. The reboot has only just been announced so there is no information on cast, story etc. whatsoever.

Besides, a prequel wouldn't be a reboot, it'd be a prequel and still have ties to the main plotline of the current film series.

It depends...because the suggested storyline for this film is identical to that of the first film.

However, it could be about the first team sent in there before the begining of the first film.

But, either way, I say SONY should get into the CGI films.

In the days, months and years following the release of the first RESIDENT EVIL movie I truly hated it. But as time passed, I've come to appreciate it: I am still not wild about the art direction (too clean and sterile - even though it's the worst of the three, I think EXTINCTION looks great with those gritty and dirty interiors), but I would say that Paul Anderson, on a general level, managed to get the movie right (a literal translation of the game would've hardly worked on the screen). I still don't like the lack of gore and Alice still gets on my nerves, but you can't have everything.

I don't get what they mean with reboot: are they gonna remake the first RE movie (dumb move man!) or are they gonna do a whole new storyline (possibly, more in touch with the game, with Chris, Barry and all the others)?

Either way, I don't know what to think: zombie movies have been popping out like mushrooms since 2002 and I've become more-then-a-bit tired of them...

Which could mean a fresh take on the mansion incident. With no plot in stone yet, I'd still wager that Sony are trying something new, rather than something in the same universe as the current films. Otherwise, there's very little point. It'd still be a prequel, rather than a reboot.

I share the sentiments regarding Degeneration though. That worked brilliantly for me and CGI is a bigger canvas to work on that live-action, especially where game-based films are concerned.

Hopefully it will be a good one :D

We'll see what happens with this one; the Paul Anderson films are money spinners for Sony, and that's all they'll ever be (Anderson and Jovovich recently stated that the main reason to make Afterlife is 'Money.' which makes sense given the throwaway nature of the film series and its characters as a whole) to be honest. Perhaps this will give someone else a chance to do what Anderson and the writers didn't and allow Resident Evil to be itself.

Will keep a watchful eye on this, while simultaneously putting a clothes peg over my nose to cover up the smell of [Language. TZM] that Afterlife reeks of. An army of Alices versus Wesker in undead Tokyo I believe is the setup.....makes no damn sense. :whackangry:

I actually liked Extinction, as it was so far removed from the Resident Evil series that it could be classed as something different.

Afterlife might actually be an entertaining Zombie-Fest, but will never be a good Resi Film.

So far, the only motion picture based on RE I truly appreciated was the first (and more complex) commercial for RE2 directed by George A. Romero - not because of its director (any professional in the field could've done it), but because it really captured most of the essence of the games - and it did it in about 30 seconds!

I mean, just look at the sets, make-ups and costumes!

4D was also quiet good too. I recently got DEGENERATION and I wasn't that wild about it.

Man...Romero is so young in that video!

Just looked up the guy who played Leon (Brad Renfro), turns out he died January last year, a few days before Heath Ledger.

It's really quite sad.

I HAVE DEGENERATION ON UMD BUT PREFER RE FILM 2 ALSO WITH ITS BEING SET IN RACOON CITY FOR ONE AND I CAN DEFINATLY SEE A FILM BASED ON BRAVO TEAM AND THE MANSION WORKING IT COULD START IN THE POLICE STATION IN A PEACEFULL RACOON CITY THEN AS THE MISTIRIOUS REPORTS COME IN INVESTIGAT THE MANSION AND GET SLAUGTERED! MAKES SENSE THAT THE ENDING IS EITHER CHRIS/JILL/BARRY SAVING REBECCA OR THE GOOD ENDING FROM RE1 BUT THAT WOULD BE TOO LONG A FILM IT SHOULD STOP AT ALPHA TEAMS ARRIVAL TO LEAVE ROOM FOR ANOTHER FILM MAYBE?
JOHNNY DEPP AS WESKER?
CHRISTIAN BALE AS CHRIS?
LEOARDO DICAPRIO AS LEON?
JILL/CLAIRE/REBECCA IDEAS?

Please turn your Caps Lock off greeni86...it looks like you're shouting.

I wouldn't want known actors to play the characters in the films, if they were to be made. I much prefer films with unknown actors portraying known characters, this way it gives them a chance to show themselves.

If we had Johnny Depp or Christian Bale, they'd just be putting themselve sinto the characters...which wouldn't be interesting...
