Latest news sounds out franchises such as Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill and ever our very own Devil May Cry for potential touch-ups.

Is this a new trend waiting to break free? With games on the Wii such as Metroid Prime Trilogy and the newly announced God of War Collection for the PS3 on their way, are we about to enter a period where HD "remixes" are the next big thing?

Also, what franchises would you like to see receive this treatement? Especially on the PS3 where Trophies and HD graphics are the primary additions to these existing titles.

People reacted this way when REmake was announced.

Lots of speculation over just how many REmakes we'd see, and lots of Developers saying "it's a possibility" when pushed for an answer.

For the most part, I only remember REmake and the MGS1 remake on the GameCube.

I can see that we'll certainly be revisiting franchises (Shattered Memories, for instance), but I doubt we'll see a major or massive trend towards Remastered Games.

However, if we were to see it, I'd actually prefer to see some really oldschool games get remastered and re-released...Like Alien 3 for the Sega Master System, that would be awesome to see again.

I also wouldn't mind seeing Alex Kidd in Miracle World get remastered and re-released, as it's one of my all time favourite games.

EDIT:

However, if we were strictly talking about the previous generation of games, then I'd say:

Wii:

-Eternal Darkness

PS3:

-Ico
-Shadow of the Colossus

360:

-Stubbs the Zombie

I agree with tzm on Ico and shadow of the colossus + metal gear solid 2 and 3 + all resident evil games on ps2 + tekken 4 and 5 and i will have no purpose for buying a ps2 :D

Devil May Cry 1 is a classic, can't see what they can do more with it.

Also IF they do got ahead with this, will they be physical media?

I thought we were talking about remaking, I misread. Remastering is fine with me, atleast it's nice towards the people that couldn't play the games before, that's all. Commercial somethingsomething ftw!

I can't come up with any games to be remastered though since they were released not 4/5 years ago. I am more of the retro-type, so I'd love to see some remakes of DOS and PSOne games instead (only platforms I played on in my youth besides Nintendo stuff).

There would be a lot of games i wouldnt mind seeing remastered, but i dont know if they would be practical lol
Stuff like the origional tom clancy series of games, rainbow 6, splinter cell and ghost recon.
And then the random games that i loved over the past year such as battletoads, hogs of war, summoner 2, origional Fallouts, Hitman series, Sudeki, Coolboarders 2, KOTOR, i could go on :p

I don't mind really that games are being remade and remastered, aslong is there is visible improvement and new features added. As I have said a few times, I would love if Breath of Fire 3 & 4 remakes made their way to the Xbox 360, would make me very happy.

Also sometimes people miss out on the original so re-releasing them on the next gen consoles allows you to play an old game without the hassle of needing to purchase an old and hard to find console.

Aslong as there are improvements, a few new features and the price is right, chances are if I like the game, I will buy it, regardless that it is a remake.

I hope it doesn't, if i wanted to play them I'd play the originals. Personally i won't be buying them, hell I'll probly stop gaming altogether if it gets to the point were new releases are less common then remakes.

Yeah guys, this thread isn't about remakes (ala REmake for the Gamecube). This is about re-releases that have graphical touch-ups and Trophies included for the PS3. God of War Collection could well be the first of many. It includes the first two God of War games for a cut price.

I guess the succes of the God of War collection will tell, if there's a need, there's a market.

I have too many to list, most are PS1 games though, but I would hardly see many of them making it to retail.

But i'd say that remastery is very important, not only does it give us the revisions of how a work was originally intended, but also that it will remain eternally with the times, as we get older and wiser, we can see new perspectives on a title that we would easily miss in youth.

I think remakes are largely overrated due to the significant and quite lazy plot rehashing, instead of something new, we are given the same product Version 2, if anything we need more self contained titles that are so well made that it would never warrant a remake. (Yeah, I am aware that this thread is about remastery and not remaking, this is just my view on it.)

well if you look at sales of metroid prime trillogy overall, it hasn't done all that well. i guess the kind of people who play these classic, hardcore games will have the originals (as i have with the metroid primes) and dont need to buy collections. Re-makes like metal gear solid twin snakes or tomb raider anniversery (and of course, Resi 1) on the other hand are interesting. I would love to see curent gen remakes of Zelda Ocarina of time, Dino Crisis and (of course) Final fantasy 7
