This was a petition I signed, and would encourage anybody else to sign.
Alan Turing is the creator of the Turing Test, and was a Code Breaker during World War 2.
When he admitted to having a relationship with a man, his security clearance was stripped, he was chemically castrated, and he was publicly ridiculed.
2 months later, he killed himself because of the amount of public humiliation he was put through.

That is upsetting. From the sounds of it.:(
Signing. Sobering stuff--it'll be interesting to see in fifty years time how history judges the actions of the current generation.
Shame on those people whi did that to him, he was a war hero!
I often dont give a damn about articles about famous people but this... if i could, i would sign it
I find it utterly disgusting how they can do that to him for mere credibility.
The man served his country, and did it so incredibly well that he would widely be regarded as clean and decent today, and yet the short sighted fools thought nothing would change after the war.
Consider it signed.
Wow it's surprising. I wouldn't be surprised if Nazis would have done that to Jewish people, but it's surprising to hear that something like that happened in UK and to a man who only did good things for his country. So sad :(
Absolutely disgusting.
So what if he was gay, this man was a genius and dedicated his life to this country to help his fellow country men and has probably saved thousands/hundreds of thousands of british soldiers due to his work.
We are fortunate today that our society has become alot more understanding of peoples beliefs, sexuality, etc.

Sometimes I wonder to myself, why did they even bother? Everyday we are slowly forgetting the good they all did............

Sounds like a very tradgic event, the worst part about it is how avoidable it was :sour:.

50+ years ago, it was Illegal to be Gay, and The Queen denied the possibility of Lesbianism (she didn't think it was something Women could ever do).
This was mostly faith based, as The Bible makes it quite clear that "A man shall not lie with a Man as he does a Woman" which is basically saying that Homosexuality is sinful, or at the very least, wrong.
It is only within recent years that we have started to seperate Church & State, and it is an on-going process.
Turing was openly Gay, and was humiliated and ridiculed for it. This is just the same as Slavery, Women getting the vote, women's rights, human rights, etc, etc, etc.
It is a slow process, and one that will hopefully get better and quicker as more people become aware or what is natural.

Impressive, but its only natural for a man of his position to side with the hurt party in order to remain in favour, but what more can the man do?
erm not to be a downer.... whats the point of getting an apology from someone who was 1 years old at the time of the prosecution?

It's not specifically from Gordon Brown, it's just his voice.
The apology is from the Government.
It's the same as when The Pope apologised to the Knights Templar for hunting them down and killing them, or when various Governments around the world apologised for Slavery, etc, etc, etc.
It's about brining it t the attention of the majority, letting them know that we're no longer a part of that particular time, etc, etc, etc.

But its still not enought though. Homosexuals are still seperated from society, and the whole equal rights thing still doesnt work a lot. Theres also laws supposed to help but |I know for a fact that people just dont care

It's still a step in the right direction. Look how long it took Women to get full equal rights, and even then it is still a struggle for women to get treated exactly the same.
Children struggled to.
Human Rights is a very slow process in this day & age.
