For some, the series is just an occasional game on the side, whereas others make it in to a vital part of their lifestyle, especially evident on these very forums.

So, what first triggered your interest in the series? was it just a cool game in a dire time? or was it something more? :D

For me, it started in my early teens, when RE2 first came out, I saw a large cardboard cutout of a zombie cop in game, advertisements everywhere, and even the RE controller.

It was a game I desperately wanted to play, with interests provoked even further when I read an interesting article from a magazine I keep even today, it said how revolutionary RE would be, had articles on Mr.X, transforming Marvin and even the Licker CGI.

My sisters boyfriend loaned me the game, and I absolutely loved it, but got stuck on the final fight with Birkin, gave him the game back, but I wanted to play it all over again, so I managed to pull enough together to buy RE2.

With RE2 done and dusted, I read another article in a PC magazine about RE1, that followed soon after, and I even discovered RE3.

By the time I got my first job, I bought myself RE4, gathered the remaining sub-plot games and various other odds and ends from RE to the nice little collection I have today.

When I got the internet, despite adopting my current DMC themed username, RE was always the more complex of the two, leading to the discussions I frequently have today.

My story is similar to yours my good friend, with my interest in the series begining with Resi 2.

I discovered the game with the Timed Demo released with the Official Playstation Magazine, and my Mum saw the age rating. So, she sat me down, and decided to play the demo herself.

She died with moments of the demo starting, and turned the console off before the blood had even spattered across the screen. I instantly knew that I loved this game.

She told me to never play it, then left the house for the night. I put the disc in the console, and selected RE2. I died. I died alot...but I kept getting further, and I kept getting better.

Between me and my friends at the time, it became a competition to see who could get the furthest. My friends could get to the bus, whilst I could get to Marvin.

Then my friends got to Marvin, so I got up to the third floor of the RPD, all within the 10 minute timeframe of the demo. I am still, as far as I know, one of the fastest players of that particular demo.

When the game hit the stores though, I didn't have the money. My friend bought himself a copy, and played Leon A, then leant it to me. He didn't bother playing the other scenario's, because he thought they'd be exactly the same, but with a different character.

I played it to death. I played it so much, that in the end he ended up letting me keep the game.

By the time he let me keep the game, I'd already started collecting the other games. I bought RE1, and RE1: Director's Cut, and started searching for other items.

Since then, my collection and knowledge of the series has grown. I am "the Resident Evil guy" in my area.

Well...there we go...

I started on the original Resi when I saw a review of it in a PS1 magazine. Figured I'd get my mum to pick it up for me seeing as I was 12 or so at the time. Started it, and loved it.
I finished that pretty easy, and kinda put it aside, it didn't have the replay value FF8 did at that time. Then my friend showed me RE2, and that was it, I was hooked. Played that like a madman, and picked up RE3 from Virgin in London on its release date. Since then, I haven't missed a release date, and I tend to show up either in full fan gear (Umbrella Hoody, Umbrella bag etc.) or my CVX Chris cosplay, whcih I'm gonna wear to pick up Darkside when its released =3
Dunno where I'd be without Resi, its been a massive passion of mine, even if I don't get along with how the new games play =[

I Got Resident Evil with my PS1 (1 was an N64 fan boy until Metal gear solid came out). I'd never heard of it at the time but thought i'd give it a go! I had never played such an atmospheric and creepy game before. When i read that they were making a sequal in this playstation magazine we used to have here (Planet Playstation) I thought WHat the hey! the last one was good. Resi 2 was brilliant. I was so into it i wanted to change my name to leon (I was about 13 i must point out) that was when i was truly hooked. I have bought each subsiquent resi game on release (except deaD aim which i got into later on)

i saw Resi3:Nemesis ad on a German tv channel (because in that period my dad bought the decoded for the satellite tv, so we watched german and french channels for some moths :D) and i was shocked about this miniskirt girl shooting at people covered with blood and that weird monster (nemesis) looking for Jill
me and my dad tought that CG video was just great and then nothing, it ended there
few years later, a friend of mine asked me to borrow him Crash Bandicoot 3: warped and he borrowed me "a game that he couldn't manage to finish"...and it was Resi3! so i started playing this game with weird controls and jumping on the chair everytime nemesis appeared or a QTE appeared..it was hard, sure, but i liked that so much, but i gave him back Resi and then nothing again until 2005, when Resi4 came on PS2 and i bought the limited edition on the day one because i heard awesome things about that title
i put the DVD on the ps2 and after 10min i didn't want to play it anymore...i was scared and i didn't know what to do, and i died really shocked because of the first chainsaw maniac decapitated me when i were stucked in an empty house without ammo
2 days after i tried that game again before returning to the shop to give it back and buy another game, but i played the same area again and i liked it a bit more, so i decided to keep it for some other time
then i played and finished it, but after 18 hours when i finished Resi4 i really LOVED it, so i played it over and over
then my interest grew and i bought older Resis like code veronica, resi2 and 3

The first console I vividly remember having was the PS1. I used to play Crash Team Racing, Ghoul Panic, Point Blank and little bits of Final Fantasy 7. But the thing I remember the most was my dad playing Resident Evil 2. I used to watch him play the first two games all the time. While I was watching, it didn't faze me a bit, but I did have nightmares and the like. But as I grew up around them, I developed a love for the RE games. Although this didn't really shine through until I played RE4, I went back through the games and here I am today.

A friend had imported it from Japan and we spent a night playing it.

I soon orded it for myself.

Its interesting to note that there has always been an RE game in my life at some point:

RE2 and 1 where part of my early school life.

RE3 and CVX part of my late school life.

RE: Outbreak, RE4 part of my early working life.

And the rest topped by RE5 during my first full time career.

As well as a few others in between those.

I've always loved the films and obviously I was aware it was based off a game. I was buying some games in a 3 for whatever deal (can't remember how much) and got Resi one on the Gamecube as as filler game to make the deal basically. Started the game and soon realised I was utter crap. Gave it up lol

Then Resident Evil 5 was being released and as I work in GAME the staff were given permission to dress up for it which I just saw as an excuse to cosplay =D I searched some characters on the net and decided Jill from Resi 3 would be the easiest and cheapest to do in a week. I got a good reaction to her outfit in the store and on some cosplay sites after so I decided to improve her and wear her to my next cosplay event in London. Whilst there I met up with loads of other Resi cosplayers and really enjoyed myself (even if at the time I didn't get the jokes about herbs and a "Jill sandwhich"). This was also where I met NoWhereMedia who has obviously passed on his Resi knowledge to me and we are now a couple ^^

So since then I have decided to get more into the series and although I still kinda suck at the original I have found I can play Resi 4. Horray for unlimited saves and more ammo and herbs lying around! XD So yeah I'm still a bit of a noob to the series but I'm dating an expert so it's all good lol And I'm still a big fan of the films =p

When i was a kid, like 6 years old, zombies were like, the thing that scared me the most, when i made 12, i watched the 1 st movie, and i loved it, and then i watched the secound, and i suddently becamed a big fan of zombies, than i made a search in the web, i wanted to know about the games, and then i saw that the games were from capcom and i was like..."Wow, my favorite game (Dmc) is from capcom, i definitly need to buy the games, so i started getting money, to buy one, and than a friend came to me, and said "hey, dude i hate this game(the game were outbreak file#2" do you wanna buy it??? i sell it only for 3 $ cause i hate it so much", i was like :horray::horray: cool, so i bought it, and i was amazed by the game, i beated it all in easy, than tried in normal, and it was like "wow this is normal....so hard, i can´t even imagine the hard mode" and that was how i really start being a fan of RE, i love the chalenge, and a bit after, my friend bought Re4, and lended it to me, and i beated it in all modes, except for mercenarios i only did it with Ada and Krauser...

And that´s the story...

Pretty soon after, i watched Dawn of the dead, wich becamed definitly my favorite zombie movie...

My dad's really into survival horror games and got me into playing Resident Evil 1. I found the first one difficult, so I didn't get very far on my own and the zombies scared me so much (I was only very young at the time D=).

Then they released a demo for Resident Evil 2, I found this one far easier, less scary (for some reason) and I really liked Leon. After that, Resi 2 became my favourite game and I fell in love with the series, buying all the other games on or near release days adding in collectable figures and items as I find them. :)

Awwwwh, you met because of Resi cosplay? That's so sweet =3

First time I had contact with Resi was when I got a PS2, I asked for it at x-mas with GTA III, and that was in my x-mas tree but also a game called "Resident Evil: Code Veronica X".

I spent the days after x-mas playing the desired GTA, but when I started playing Resi I discovered that I liked the game

Then when I heard of Resident Evil 4 I started following it and bought it immediately when it was out.

The same with Resident Evil 5, despite I consider 4 the best of the series. :woohoo:

woooow ... while most of you kids were just children when you played RE for the first time ... i was at my 2nd or 3rd year in collage ... so that means that i am the only one (up to now ) who was at the legal age to play ( MAAAAN ... I FEEL SOOOOO OLD )

ok my first contact with RE games was ( like many of you ) RE2 ... personally my most fav part in the whole series .. i was visiting my friend and he was playing the PC version ... he was at the lab area of leon scenario B .... i loved the game ... i watched him playing and DYING ... next day i visited him again and he was re-playing the lab area again ... so i started to guide him ... go from here ... over there , get the key ... and he looked at me and said ... "were you with them when they made the game ?? how do you remember all that" ... i said you just played it yesterday in front of me ...
and that was it for that time .... after that my mom brought my cousin a PS1 with many games as a gift ... among them was RE2 !!! i was more happy than my cousin ... we started playing it ... it was GREAT ... i died the first time at the buss area before you get to the police station entrance where the zombies were eating a guy on the road ... it was great ... you can imagine my surprise when i got to the labs and the game did not end as i saw my friend played it ... at that time i did not know that there was 2 scenarios !! i thought that there was 2 different versions of the game ... then another friend told me that i am supposed to load a new game to get the B scenario !!
and it was like if i found a treasure !! the B scenario ... i LOVED the way the events overlapped between scenario A and B ... when i saw the helicopter burning in the hallway in scenario A , i thought "how did this happen ... what was the desginer of the game thinking when he placed a helicopter in the hallway ??!!" and it was really nice to see how the helicopter ended in the hallway in secnario B ...
after that i looked for RE1 ... and then 3 ...
i was very disappointed that they did not release RE CV for PC ... at that time it was only for Dream cast ... until i found a dream cast emulator to enable me to play the game on my PC ... i was very HAPPY to be able to play it .... then the emulator was unable to run Disc 2 ...AAAAAHHHHH i spent nights on the Internet trying to find a way to run disc 2 until i gave up ... then one day i found over a forum the solution ....at that night i was able to run disc 2 at 1:00 am ( i think ) but i had to go to sleep i could not wait to play it ...

any how i got PS2 around 3 years ago and got the rest of the titles ... outbreak , CV X , dead aim ... and RE4 ...
after that when my mom got the WII i got the RE-remake ... i always wanted to play it ... i did not play RE5 yet ....waiting for the PC version ...
but i still miss the old RE style ...

wow .... nice old days ...
i still play RE 2 up to now ... my most fav in all of the series and the one that hooked me up with the RE world ... i have a virtual win98 that i can run under XP just to play RE2 without any problems

now that is a long post ... better shut up and give the rest of you kids the chance to talk ...

I read an article about resi 4 in my favourite magazine, which is not normally biased. I decided to buy it, even though I had never played the older ones.

It turned into the best game I had played for years (since Final Fantasy 10 was released, I think). I completed Resi 4, and decided to go for Resi DS next. While I found it extremely hard, I made it through the mansion and lab. I then bought 2 and Code Veronica (X) for the Gamecube. I completed resi 2 on 2 different scenarios and moved onto CVX. CVX took me a long, long time to complete, but the story and characters made me adamant to complete it.

Next, I bought Nemesis. I completed this one easily and quite quickly. I found this one a disappointment, because it seemed to make Nemesis a gimmick, even though it seemed to have all the other Resi aspects there.

Zero came next, which I loved, because of the tension that the "murderer" created when they had to help each other throughout. I then went for REmake, which is my 2nd favourite of the lot, mainly because of the Lisa Trevor story and the way that they made everything better, without making anything worse (I think).

Of course, the resi games just go downhill when you go away from the main games. Outbreak, Survivor etc.

And then there's Resi 5, which I bought about the same time as most of you, I expect. While it wasn't quite as good as 4, it is an addictive shooter/action game. Versus has kept me playing this Resi the most to this day.

Wow...what a lovely life story :o

For me I guess its a combination of my love for horror movies especially Zombie movies and Alone in the dark.

As Alone in the dark the was the first one who probably introduced me as earliest to the survival horror genre though it had no real name for me until first Resident Evil was released.

I loved the whole atmosphere which reminded me alot of the horror movies I loved so much.

Thats how I got into RE series.

My is quite short: i once borrowed a copy of resident evil 1 and 2 from my friend, tried 1, ugly, tried 2, got stuck almost at the beginning, returned the games. Several years later, i got smarter, started to like classic games and ordered resident evil 1(diary) and 2 from ebay - i just had to have those classics in my collection.

Next i bought resident evil 3 from my friend and im now saving money for the resident evil 5 steelbook limited edition which was restocked(a miracle!)even when it was not available in my country anymore.

Just to let you know guys, my first and only resident evil game i have beaten was resident evil 4 on PC - ugly graphics, horrible controls but with a gamepad and the great gameplay value - it was a blast

It started off with RE2. I was with my parents in Maidstone at a market. Back then I had a Windows 95 I saw a PC gaming mag and it came with a free CD with RE2 demo on it. Thrilled, I begged my dad to buy me the mag and when I got home, booted up my PC and immediately installed RE2. Played it and was amazed. (Back then I wasn't allowed games on my PC and I was young)

In the not too distant future......

RE5 was announced. I was highly anticipating the game and wanted it that badly. I never played as Chris Redfield before only Leon. So I was playing RE4 and pretending it WAS RE5. Then on Friday 13th 2009 I woke up still exicted from the night before, rushed to town first thing during a college day and bought RE5.

I came prepared with 2 things:

£40
and a form of ID

As soon as the door opened. Off to the PS3 section in GAME I go and grabbed RE5 eagerly waiting at the counter someone with the 360 version kindly let me go first (He probably knew how excited I was)
The bloke at the counter tried to convice me to buy a strategy guide but I told him the only walkthrough I use is my head lol.

After a session with a tutor I go home, my dad and brother at home I booted up the PS3 and inserted RE5............

in response to Cewolf! I was over 15 when Resi 1 came out (Just) i was just finishing high school in the Uk. It seems there are very few players who have been there since the beginning. Is this Because the people playing in the early days have drifted away from gaming as they grew older or have the later games generated more of a hold over people? I personally have the fondest memories of Resi 2 (seriously, I wanted to change my name to leon at the time!) and that was where my love of the series really started. It may be that the series keeps getting better or it may just be that wherever you come to the series (i.e, whenever your old enough to start playing) you will find a truly engrosing series with plenty to draw you in.

i saw the first resident evil movie ages ago when it was first released on dvd rental, but i didn't pay attention and didn't even know the name of it at the time. a few years later i was shopping for wii games and i found resident evil 4. it was the only one in blockbuster (i know ) that didn't look stupid or kiddish. my sister pushed me to buy it and i LOVED IT!!!. i then got umbrella chronicles and researched everything there is to know about resident evil. (now i looked back and realised that movie i saw so long ago was resident evil ). then i heard resident evil 5 was released and i immediotaly sold my wii and bought a ps3 to play it. ...... and now darkside chronicles is comming out and i don't have a wii ......

so i am gonna borrow another wii from my friend and give him the game when i'm done as payment...... though i'd much rather buy a new one and share it with a friend so it's not that useless.

Thanks for mentioning Dino Crisis, Ada. I forgot to mention it myself, it was an awesome filler between RE games, Its a shame it really never expanded to the scale of RE.

I saw the first RE Movie. And i didn't really think that there is such a game.
After that a friend of mine made a RE-site. I decided to help her with the new project and after that i bought RE3: Nemesis.
I liked it very much. Then i started to search for the info about other games, and later the girl who i helped with RE-site give me the whole site.

Started out with me watching a mate play RE1 when I was about 6....loved it.

Soon got a lend of it & was hooked, eventually bought my first RE which was RE1 DC (non dual shock).

Played the RE2 demo on RE.DC and bought RE2 shortly after release, have been collecting RE games ever since.

Resident Evil still remains as my all time favourite games series.

When I was around 13\14 all the kids (including my friends) had a Playstation and RE2 was one of the games they played the most - hence, when I finally got my console, RE2 was one of the first games that I bought - and being a huge horror fan, I sticked to the series ever since.

I was a kid who was brought up on 8Bit and 16 bit games, I was used to Super Mario Allstars and Sonic and Knuckles, and to be honest- I was very happy with them. All of a sudden though, they started talking 32 bit and originally I was going to move on the the Saturn, but the Sony Playstation just sort of made a huge noise in the corner, and everyone turned round and went 'Huh? Well this is neat!! :D'

When I first played the PS1, I loved Tekken and just about everything on it, how could I not- it was new, shiny, 3D and had nice digital music. Resident Evil was the first videogame I played in the modern era that made me stand up and say 'Wow.....now that's the future.' It was adult, it had scares, it had 'real' violence, it had puzzles, it had kickass characters who COULD TALK when they met up!! It was quite simply ahead of its time, it was the most advanced, cutting edge game I'd ever played and what's more, it was brilliant to play. I was one of the first kids I knew who played the game, and soon it became a big talking point at school as more and more people got it- it was genuinely the beginning I feel of the age of AAA titles.....I feel that strongly for it.

I remember reading up about RE2 back when the RPD was blue, and the main female was going to be called 'Eliza' and being so excited (The only time my excitement for a game showed as much since was for MGS4, which was a day one purchase for me even though I didn't own a PS3 at the time! :D ) that I could hardly wait. Since RE1, other groundbreaking and now legendary titles like Abe's Odysee, Final Fantasy VII (Still to this day, the definitive reason people should love gaming.) and Tomb Raider had been out, and RE2 trounced all but one of them (FFVII was just too much content and too much story for anything to handle then.) in every respect- I played the RE2 demo I got with Official Playstation magazine to the point where I actually managed to wear the disk out, and had to borrow another- it was 15 of the most exhilerating minutes of gaming I've ever played, and each time trying desperately to squeeze more out of the game, to see one more room, to run past one more zombie, to see one more secret that maybe I wasn't supposed to see.....awesome.

That was me hooked- the first two games, they're as far as I'm concerned two of the finest pieces of work in videogame history- and it amazes me that now, 14 years after the original release I can still play RE1 and get enjoyment from it is unreal. 11 or 12 years after RE2 broke, I'm still playing that game and having a blast, and even RE3, which was weaker but still good is enjoyable enough in it's more survival themed story.

Incidentally, Resident Evil 2 is the only entertainment medium that has managed to actually scare me thanks to the scene where if you open the door of the shed where you find the second shotgun/crossbow two zombies appear ON THE DOOR LOADING SCREEN and walk towards you!! I could swear that my heart stopped for literally five whole seconds as I thought the game was going to auto-kill me for my mistake! :) Some great memories. :)

For people like me, Resident Evil is a part of who I am, it was a part of my growing up, and I'll always have a special appreciation for the original Racoon trilogy both personally, and in recognition of some of the finest games of all time.

PS: Not strictly speaking on topic but deserves a mention for what it means to me; In Resident Evil Outbreak 2 also, I was part of a small, but very close and fun community that I enjoyed being a part of very much, and find that most of those people have moved off to other things. I just want to wish them all good luck in whatever they're all doing these days.
