View Full Version : What's the point in releasing Apollo Justice before Trials & Tribulations?
Seriously, why not finish off the Phoenix Wright trilogy before moving on to Apollo Justice? In order to support these games in Europe Im prepared to wait the extra weeks or months for them to arrive on our shores. The least I expect in return is to get them in order. Now Im going to have to skip Apollo Justice until Phoenix Wright 3 arrives. Surely Trials & Tribulations couldve been released some time in the five months leading up to AJ. :|

Trials & Tribulations is due for release locally (well, in Europe at least) on the 21st of March 2008.
Apollo Justice is due for release locally on the 9th May 2008.
As you can see, theres two months apart.
When was this announced? I cant find anything T&T-related on this website, Nintendo of Europe just says 2008, and Ive been informed by a Capcom employee over at Eurogamer that Apollo Justice is definitely being released before the third Phoenix Wright game.

Theres a few press releases floating around, as well as confirmation on the Wiki for both games. Not a 100% solid source, but the best youve got to go by.
Well I cant find any of those press releases, and none of the major online retailers even have the game listed on their websites. If it were due in a couple of weeks then wed be able to preorder it by now.
Regardless, Im more inclined to believe the Capcom employee over at Eurogamer, who, again, stated that Apollo Justice would definitely be released before Trials & Tribulations.
Apollo Justice will be released before Trials and Tribulations. Theres no spoilers in Apollo Justice that would stop you enjoying Trials and Tribulations if you played it afterwards though.
Really damage because it is stupid to begin a new chapter without having to end the first one.... Date for Trials and Tribulations in europe please Capcom :cry:

Needless to say theres almost no reason to play through T&T if you want to skip it and enjoy AJs story.
I dont recommend skipping T&T though - play it whenever you can but AJ is designed so that you can play it WITHOUT having to play previous games in the series (Theres a few nods to the previous story arc but not heaps)
But,we want to pla Trials and Tribulations before! We want to no the end before starting a new chapter (even if it has nothing to do with it!)lots of fans will simplie not buy Apollo Justice before Trials and Tribulations and i am one of them !

I should mention. Phoenix Wright : Ace Attorney : Trials and Tribulations, in Europe, it is in the top 10 of the most anticipated games for Nintendo DS ...
A lot of people here are saying they wont get AJ when its released out of protest, but Id say thats a bad move. The only logical reason I can think of as to why Capcom are so hesitent (spell?) on releasing T&T over here is because so many European gamers have bought it on import, theyre afraid it might not sell well. If anything, they might be taking a gamble with Apollo and see how *that* sells, then release T&T if the figures are satisfactory.
Or at least, that was my *original* deduction. There were a number of things that didnt add up in that theory, including the matter of if theyre afraid of low sales due to import buyers, then why bother releasing it at all? (Which I found a terrible thought; I simply am not able to buy anything online due to certain extenuating circumstances in my life, and am forced to hunt and purchase items I desire in the local retailers. Oh, the humanity of it all).
With that, though, Im a bit at loss at any other logical reason as for this delay. I was honestly expecting T&T to be released in March this year in keeping with the pattern with the previous two titles (PW:AA released in March 2006, and JFA released on March 2007, if memory serves correctly). But March passed by, and then I find out about this. Although Im grateful that both titles are coming out this year, Im really at loss as to why theyre being released out of order, of all things. It doesnt make much sense. Story-wise, wed rather experience the end of an era with the original characters weve all grown to know and love *before* heading off into the start of a new one with characters of its own. Similar thing, gameplay-wise: From what Ive seen and heard, T&T doesnt bring anything new into the series at all, where as AJ features all sorts of innovations to go on top of the tasters we provided with in the special fifth case of the first game. Isnt going it going to be a slight down-grade for us? Its an odd presentation order, frankly.
Dont get me wrong: I will buy Apollo Justice when it is released, and Ill buy T&T on the dot when it comes over here too (personally, Ill probably play the first case of AJ, then store my copy away until T&T arrives. Then after completing it Ill head back to AJ from Case 2 and onward). Im just curious at the decision to release no#4 before no#3, and would like an explanation I can find understandable.
I dont think it has anything to do with the loss of sales through imports. Apollo Justice itself has been out for a few months in the US, so a lot of people have surely imported that as well. Its just a very strange decision. More than enough time has passed between the US T&T release and now, so where is it? I cant think of any reason why they couldnt have released it in March, ready for the Apollo Justice saga to begin in May.
Im not going to boycott AJ, but what the others have said is right. Its a simple case of wanting to finish off the Phoenix Wright trilogy before beginning a brand new chapter of the Ace Attorney series.
Well Zerolus I dont think so many european gamers bought it on import, maybe many english players and english speakers (so actually very few french, spanish and italian players, maybe more german) .
Why do you think so many english players bought this game on import? I think its just because the game hasnt been released in Europe and not the opposite.
Im a french player, I started playing PW in french (with the funnies characterss names and so on) but now Im starting AJ and I cant get what happened to Phoenix 7 years ago and its crappy because I still think maybe its explained in PW3, sh*t they did not released it!.
Ive bought the game but Im gonna wait for PW3 before I start AJ.

Thats right... The game has disappeared from all European Nintendo sites, which is much worse than that happening only in Sweden (IIRC Phoenix Wrights games were not released there either and Apollo is the first so it is logical to some extent not to release it there). The third game is the best of the four and we deserve to have it here as well. It might take a year but they HAVE to release it.

Yeah, the other sites still has it, but Im still a bit worried about the European release especially after the announcement on the Swedish site. If what Peff said is true (that even the previous Phoenix games werent released there) it makes a bit more sense now, though.
Of course Capcom wouldnt start advertizing the third game since they just released the fourth game, but still... for a fan this uncertainty is unbearable :(

I dont think we should read too much into it. Smash Brothers Brawl doesnt appear under a games search either.
Then again, the game isnt even on Nintendos Q2 release schedule. If it is still coming, then just how long are we going to have to wait? I wish someone would just give us some answers...
Thing is, around January/February it DID appear when you searched for it in games. Then again, the game is still there in the database (and that should have been the very first thing to be erased) and as you say some important games like Final Fantasy IV are not listed there either.
So theres still hope, yay!

It is insulting to european fans of the Ace Attorney Series to let one game slip without a proper reason,especially the concluding one.
I have waited patiently for Ace Attorney one and Justice for all to be released here even if i could have imported it long ago.
But i thought hey i could also wait and suppoert the local market!
And no i did t bought Apollo Justice and i won t until there is a release for T&T
I was always a Capcom Fan and love your all series but this time you fucked up.

So it seems checks are done like 4 to 5 months prior to release. Of course Capcom doesnt need to repeat that strategy but thats the timeframe Id expect the game to be released in now.
I actually joined this forum so i could perhaps get the plea to capcom to bloody well give us the final part of the phoneix wright series. I love the games, and cannot possibly move onto to Apollo justice without finding out what happens in T&T.

Wow. Its taken this long guys! Almost a whole YEAR since it was released in the United States.
Having played the game and reviewing it, its definitely one of the strongest story-wise in the Phoenix Arc and its really the one game in the series that I can confidently call a prequel and one that delves deeper into the past of all the characters.
Look forward to it being released in Europe so all you guys can play it! =D
I have got to say that GS3 is the best in the series. Even though it doesnt have the NDS features, its a great ending to the PW arc. I hope it comes out over here soon so that people who cant import it can see how great this game is. :D
