Hey everyone! :D

Been a while since I made a forum topic, so I figured what better than to post something up for what could possibly be one of the most awesome games ever (if done right).

Yes, that game is Alien VS Predator.

I didn't ever play the original, but I did hear a lot of good things.

I own AVP2 somewhere, and although dated now, it was an immensely fun game, and with the graphical capabilities of now current gen, I feel that the atmosphere of the alien films can be portrayed a lot better.....resulting in a much greater gaming experience!

Here's the link:

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=221622

I may have been afraid of a few games when I was a kid, but now nothing scares me, and I don't like that. I can live with no fear, but sometimes you want what you can't have....so this game has the chance to give me the scares needed to make a satisfyingly awesome horror game.

Just imagine this situation:

You're a marine, alone in an old, gigantic, war torn space craft. There are three marines accompanying you.

It's cold. The lights are out, and all you have are your pulse rifles and motion sensors/trackers.

You hear a beeping, and turn to your sensor. There are circular lights everywhere, indicating movement and life around you, yet nothing is visible.

You look behind you, only to find one of your team members missing, whilst hearing the screams through your headset.

Knowing that Aliens or even a Predator could be near you, you start breathing heavier and heavier.

Then, from nowhere, you catch a glimpse of a dark figure swiftly moving past you. It was bigger than you. You now know you're not alone, so against all odds you and your team must now scour the ship, and get to your destination/objective safely.

It's not going to be easy. You're going to be afraid, and you will feel the pressure!

Ah, anyway enough of that. In my opinion it'll be awesome. For any fans of either the Alien or Predator film's, this is pretty much the chance for a dream to come true. :D

Enjoy guys and girlies. ;)

I must say it looks immense. I hope they keep the trophy kills. :giggle:

The only AVP game I've really played is that RTS one for the Xbox, which I forget the name of, which wasn't bad, but I'm not really an RTS person anyway.

The Predator campaign doesn't really appeal to me. The one I'm really interested in is the Alien one. With 'modern technology' I can only see it being extremely fun. I also really want to try online multiplayer.

I cant imagine how nice its going to feel to take on a predator as a human, let alone a swarm of aliens.

This may very well be a stealth hit, no pun intended.

Also, GET TO DA CHOPAAAAAAAH!

Haha, is that a case of Arnie for the win? :p

Yea, I was a tiny bit skeptical at first, but with all of the vids, I'd say it looks extremely promising, and hopefully will become one of my favourite games of all time.

I used to like shooters for my pc the most, but now that the playstation has trophies, and I have more friends who play PS3, the ideal choice would be on PS3.

It has trophies, a headset, 4 player co-op etc, and the graphics will be top notch, so no worries about whether you can play it on full settings, unlike on a pc.

I just want to scream "They're coming out of the walls..........THEY'RE COMING OUT OF THE GOD DAMN WALLS!" down the headset.

Would be a wonderful moment lol.

It's a shooter, a complex shooter... buying it for console is madness.

Haha, maybe, but I'm not too sure. Hopefully it'll have mouse support. :p

Anyways, we'll see. Most people I've told about the game said they'd get it on console, so I think I will. I can get it on pc, but console it will be I think.

Graphics are superb, anyways. :D

I don't really play PC games, whenever I go to play them I get sidetracked and end up trawling through videos on youtube or rummaging through all my usual internet hovels. So I buy all of my games for consoles(mostly the 360, because it's more conveniant).

Not if your not a PC gamer.

I have used PC's but much prefer the pad option and I don't like like Keyboard and mouse which is the main reasion i stick to consoles.

Also my PC probebrly would not play it anyway.

I couldn't understand it, but it looks pretty awesome. Though, the harvesting might get a bit repetitive. :(

Haha, the atmosphere is pretty awesome though, and I think the real challenge will be to play as the marines. It'll be awesome, knowing you can die at any second, whilst running through the whole entire game!

Also, it has Bishop's acting voice featured in the storyline, as apparently the Bishop in this one, is his son, but voiced by the same guy. Shame they can't get Sigourney Weaver's voice for Ripley, but then she might turn up in Colonial Marines.

Either way, this game looks rad. :D

Really can't wait, and I'll be ordering mine from HMV for £60. ;)

Go look! :p

Son? No, there are too many years of difference. ;)

Bishop is a key character of Alien series, probabily the "artificial humans" Bishop are built over the figure of Wayland Industries founder Charles Bishop Series. In Alien VS Predator film.

Although in the end of Alien 3 appear man who say he is the creator of Bishop series, and a discarded scene shows him bleeding, authors didn't know what to do with him, so they cut it.
After AvP it's clear that Bishop II is an android too.

CaptainCortez
17-01-10, 01:52
Haha, well I think it was CVG, but they said that Bishop is his son this time around, and apparently he looks very very alike to his father.

Also, yea in Alien 3, he has his ear and almost whole side of his face hanging off, with blood everywhere, so maybe it's not the real one still, but a newer synthetic one, as you can't really be human if you stand still and talk whilst your face is hanging off. XD

Hey nighthawks, PC demo just went up on Steam.

Well considering the PC demo was a huge clustermess, I'm going to try the 360 demo... Like the game what I got to play of it though, seems they've gone for a much slower pace than the previous two games, more of a frentic slow "check those corners.." type.

Carbonox_Ratchet
04-02-10, 19:54
Played two games of the demo and thought it was insanely fun. Playing as the Alien both times resulted in a pretty good turnout where K/D ratio is concerned, although it takes a while to adjust to the controls.

I can see myself being addicted to this game. Hiding in the shadows, crawling on any surface, popping up on an unsuspecting player and killing them through the chest or head is incredibly satisfying. Then poof! I disappear back on to a ceiling and wait for the next meat head to stumble past.

Day one purchase EASILY.

One downside though; the matchmaking. Absolutely horrendous. Took 10/15 or even 20 minutes to find a single match. Made me want to throw my console out the window. This NEEDS sorting before the game's release.

Otherwise, this could be up there as one of the best and most original FPS titles I've ever played (not counting the previous AVP titles which were fantastic on PC).

CaptainCortez
04-02-10, 20:18
My PS3 got sent off for repair today, but yea, have they removed the ridiculously stupid thing of when you kill someone, someone can be behind you and kill you in the middle of killing someone else, then having someone behind them, kill them, whilst you're being killed, whilst killing someone else?

That was insanely stupid and annoying at Eurogamer. It needed to be sorted.

Crap it's like that on the consoles also? >_< They've just released a patch for the PC demo to fix it, so I'll try again later. On the bright side, their website states that the full game won't have the matchmaking system from the demo.

Nope. Not sure how or if that should be fixed, it's the purposeful con of the new event kill system. Just make sure you don't attack in the middle of a big fight.

Lol, but that's the point. You have to get in there to get some kills, else you'll just be hiding the entire match.

Gah, that was the only thing I found to be complete rubbish. It's one thing to balance a game out, but you can over balance things, which sadly they did with this.

Oh well, I'm just hoping the single player will be better then.

Parjay

Lol, but that's the point. You have to get in there to get some kills, else you'll just be hiding the entire match.

Wait do you mean ordinary kills? I thought you meant the special kills you can do (like grabbing people).

If you meant ordinary kills though, what's the problem? If you're in the open killing someone and there's someone behind you, you're dead - it's the same in any mp game.

CaptainCortez
04-02-10, 21:31
No, it's not the same lol. If someone is shooting you from behind, you can turn around and shoot them back. :p

I don't stand there, and let them shoot me. I strafe, crouch and jump out of the way, whilst firing back.

The stealth kills are what I'm on about, yea. All everybody did at Eurogamer was stealth kill each other 24/7, and it was just stupid. You couldn't stealth kill someone, without automatically being stealth killed by someone else at the same time. It was really stupid.

The game controls themself were really good, though. The maps were also pretty rad. I just hate the fact that stealth kills are way too balanced.

A predator wouldn't switch his stealth off, in the middle of killing someone, so why does the game make you do it? It's not logical.

Bobafet
04-02-10, 22:01
Well, i cant say my opinion yet cause the DAMN server search doesnt work, what the hell. I tried it several times, nothing. And whats worse the same issue i have with bad company 2 demo. Whats with those demos these days?
And why multiplayer demo? If the network doesnt work for some reason, you´re screwed. I want a taste of singleplayer :(.. i like singleplayer more :(

Ah don't worry about it then, everyone just wants to try the "cool moves", but the con of them is they leave you open to attack, that's the price; it's a good system (especially for a Predator risking a trophy kill). You're only meant to use it when you get a quiet opportunity, players will soon realize this.

A predator wouldn't switch his stealth off, in the middle of killing someone, so why does the game make you do it? It's not logical.Well we can't speak for all Predators, but taking a risk in kills (and intimidating prey) is something Predator's like to do (remember the movies?) Anyhow, regardless if he's cloaked or not, a Predator killing someone will be very obvious :D

CaptainCortez
05-02-10, 00:42
Haha, I guess so.....I mean it'd look a bit weird if people were dying and having their spine ripped out when nothing was around them. People would soon clock on that a Predator was doing it, haha.

Do people actually play properly, using normal attacks then? Stealth kills are one hit kills, so people might do it for the sake of it, if you're in front of them.

I know you can get the shoulder cannons, too. Problem is, when I picked them up, I couldn't work out how to attach or use them.

I guess I'll have to try that when I get my PS3 back, and can try the demo. I pre-ordered it anyway, as I really loved the game. It was just the stupidity of everyone stealth killing which had me concerned.

What I loved the most was being able to flick through my visions, and jumping seamlessly from tree, to tree, to rooftop. :D

Was so fun jumping down a huge drop and then killing some poor enemy, and running off again with my cloak switched back on.

Carbonox_Ratchet
05-02-10, 09:27
Players do use regular attacks, yes. The one hit kills can only be performed from behind (and even then you have to be at a certain distance before the necessary button pops up) otherwise you're in for a scrap facing an enemy from the front. I just prefer to run away if my stealth kill fails to come to fruition, then try again from a different angle...literally.

I find it that people are more surprised by a heavy attack as they tend to block the light attack. :)

I know its supposed to be Aliens and that but a little more light would be appreciated. Being the marine seems pretty pointless to me. Sure you've got all this firepower but you're easy prey.

Running around the walls as a xenomorph is pretty cool but again, its too easy to get lost and disorientated.

Bearing in mind this is only after about an hour's playing. Maybe it'll improve.

The fact there's only four maps with the full game don't fare well with me either. Boooooooo!

CaptainCortez
05-02-10, 10:32
Awww man, just played it on the 360, and it's absolutely awesome!

People are playing properly. :D

I was the pred first, then the alien a few times, and then the marine. All of which I picked up on pretty fast, but man, I teamed up with one guy after killing two aliens on my way (one of which was in my face, so I naded him at point blank, went flying back from the explosion, and jumped back up....he didn't), and then followed him, and we went down a corridor back to back.

Anyways, an alien jumped at him, and just before it hit him, I killed it, and then he killed one which was to my left....then we continued into the big room with the ramps.

He then told me he'd cover me with the pulse rifle, and I should grab the sniper, so I did. Then all hell broke loose!

The guys playing as the aliens knew where we were, and at first only once came, but then three at once, and I had the guy and myself covered, and I saw a tail in my face, jumped back and saw an alien on a pipe, and shot it off.

Then my team mate ran the other side of me, and I noticed just above his head, slowly climbing down the wall was an alien, and when he looked up, it fell from the sky at him, as I blew its head up.

Anyways, I turned around and there were two....one was on the pipe again, and another attacking my friend, so I got those two, and then a predator came up behind me and finished my streak.

So awesome!!! I was almost untouchable.

I really do love the marines! They may be the most basic, but they give me the biggest thrill and a huge sense of achievement. So rad!

Ima throw my laptop out of the window as well as my PS3 at this rate.

My laptop isn't bad by any means yet the demo keeps crashing on it, even if I set the graphical settings to minimum or whatnot. I get as far as the demo loading before we're in the match, but oh no, it dies on me.

Sod it, I'm just gonna wait until the game comes out. I can't be bothered with this nonsense.

CaptainCortez
05-02-10, 12:06
Alex - Try finding a help forum on the demo.....I had the same problem on the Unreal Tourny 3 demo for pc, and then the full game.

I had to go in and change a certain .ini file, and then it worked.

Haradaku
09-02-10, 22:05
I've been playing the hell out of demo. It's so much fun freaking out a marine until they start spinning around and shooting out of panic. There is so much finesse to the Alien wall climbing that make the class so deep and strategic. I can't count how many times I just scuttle around the ceiling getting people to chase me then lead them into another player so they start fighting, then I jump in and kill them both.:D

http://www.gametrailers.com/user-movie/avp-scary-ninja-alien/339530

Had no interest in this game before the demo came out, now I can't stop playing it.

Parjay
10-02-10, 01:05
Same here, playing Alien is great. Smashing lights and hissing at sole marines is great XD (they need to tone back that stealth kill stuff though)

Haradaku
10-02-10, 01:41
I have no problem with it, probably because I never do it. if I see someone doing it it's easier to just kill them with heavy attacks then doing the stealth kill as well. it leaves you wide open and anyone that does one has a 80% chance of being killed while doing it.

In the full game they will give you extra MP and with the predator it actually gives you energy to get a trophy kill so it's a risk reward.

the only problem I have is the game mode (lame death match demo) and the hit detection is way too affected by lag, slightest piece of lag and the 1 out of two hits just don't register and heavy attacks are impossible to counter. plus the general stuff like lack of host migration pretty dated lobby system (which hopefully they'll smooth out a bit)

after about 50 matches though I've only had game breaking lag in a few of them which isn't too bad.

Love the demo, LOVE it!

CaptainCortez
10-02-10, 01:43
If you hissed at me, I'd just shoot you. XD

It seems I'm best with the marines, but can play perfectly fine with any of the classes. I just feel at home with the marines.

Also, when aliens try to get me, as I'm always looking in front and behind me (that includes on the ceiling, walls and floor), if an alien comes close then I just jump around dodging and shooting.....they soon drop. :p

I made an alien run away before, and every time he tried to come after me, I turned around and chased him down a corridor, then eventually lured him to me and blew him up with a nade at point blank....to which my legs flew in the air, I landed on my back about 5 feet behind where I was originally, and just got back up.

That'll teach things to try and kill me. XD

I'm pretty good when it's just me and one marine vs everything else, as well. Good team player, and know where to look, and where not to.

Haradaku
10-02-10, 02:29
I'd hiss at you then run away, it freaks people out and keeps them in one place looking for you. narrow out the field, then I come back if I need an extra point or if your in trouble (not that I'm there to help)

I personally can't stand the marine, when I play the marine with friends it's a blast we can hold an area down tight and checking out each other radars is super fun to keep tabs on whats coming and the grenade launcher is really satisfying to fire.

Alien or Predator for me though, I really like the way they use the environment to their advantage. Add a dynamic that feels really fresh in a FPS and is a lot better implemented then the previous AvP games on PC.

Man next Friday can't come soon enough, I want this game purely for the Multi player stuff, single player feels like a nice extra to me. Hope it goes somewhere.

CaptainCortez
10-02-10, 03:07
Haha, it still wouldn't worry me. :p

I'd just find a way to flank you, as I never stay in the same place with any class. I'm always on the move, and can play almost as well on my own, as when I'm with a team mate.

It's great fun though, and they all play in their own cool ways.

I love the Aliens speed, and the Predator's weaponry, but I dunno, I think I love the marines best, as it makes you feel vulnerable, and you need to keep your wits about you. If you don't, you die. :p

As hyped up as you may be i do also love AVP the movies the games etc but AVP2 on pc was simply amazing and this "Beta" of AVP on xbox 360 right now is horrible and completely unskillfull it all simply comes down to button mashing x behind people lunging a mile then stabbing them in the back.

The networking part of the game is disgusting i though it was done by server that why it laggy but it turns out its done by host and its still horrible lagg, Overall the Demo or Beta is a failure i am only looking foward to the campaign now.

Haradaku
10-02-10, 12:56
First of it's a demo, the game is out next week. Second if you think it's about mashing X behind people you are doing it wrong.

The stealth attack is a cheap easy kill that has a higher chance of getting you spotted and killed while doing the action then it does of putting you in the lead.

It's deathmatch so you have to play smart, you can't hunt prey you have to hunt the hunter. if you see someone you make sure you're not being followed and see if he's following someone. If he is following someone then you wait till he engages. If he does a stealth kill then he's a noob, if he enter hand to hand combat then you have a chance to interrupt and get two kills.

I have the most fun taunting people who do the stealth kills by just sticking to the ceiling and hissing.

And when it comes to hand to hand combat there is a nice feeling of swashbuckling, you gotta know your counters, light and heavy attacks and with the alien you really gotta get your aiming down with ceiling tail attacks. the amount of times I've killed predators who camp the plasma caster by stabbing them in the head while on the ceiling.

I wouldn't call the game unskillful by any means, it is a deathmatch so you will get the headless chickens that roam around going for the cheap easy kills but they are never the ones at the top of the leaderboard.

Here is an example of playing the game right.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWXCC6DOTic

CaptainCortez
10-02-10, 13:09
Hara - How do you do the tail attacks? Is it just R1 or L1? I haven't played lots with the aliens, but I did get used to dashing about all surfaces, and jumping from floor to ceiling pretty fast.

I wanted to try ceiling takedowns, but haven't tried yet.

Haradaku
10-02-10, 15:09
With the alien L1 is the tail attacks, you can do them on surfaces but up close it takes time to charge but if it connects it knocks the enemy down for either a grab or a follow up attack. also a tail attack is the only way to hit another alien on the ceiling, so don't try to light attack over aliens while surface transitioning.

In the demo level if you are directly above someone in the corridors you can connect a ceiling heavy attack. The aiming is very tight because there is no aim assist, my advice is to do it on stationary targets, either camping predators for people doing stealth attacks.

A good example of affective tail attacking is to hit a marine with a ceiling tail attack (which knocks them over) then doing a pounce attack (LT focus+Light attack) which is an instant kill. If a marine is camping in the corner, of say the smart gun area, two wall tail attacks will finish him off because once you connect the first he stunned open to the follow up.

Taking down predators is a bit more tricky because it takes 3 ceiling attacks or two tail attacks and combo to finish them off and if they throw the disc you really have to be careful of the disc return because it's an instant kill.

CaptainCortez
11-02-10, 09:00
Ah ok, thanks for that. It's pretty tactical even with the aliens then. I just ran around everywhere, jumping up onto things, and dropping down behind enemies to kill them. It worked well, as the first stike they can't do much, due to having their backs facing you, and then they go to turn around, and die. :D
