Your girlfriend (or manfriend?) is hot. Use color adjustment tools.
manfriend...
The colours are an accurate representation of being what they were, and as this is photojournalistic and not artistic thats the way it should be as it is unethical to make things look the way they werent in post processing for purposes outside of art.

Sir Ian (seems to be a nice person) high fived your friend. What did he do, win the Nobel Prize (either one of them)?

I was confused, because i didnt see the last line of your post. I tought you are that boy in red and black and that old guy is your new friend. Ive seen your pictures before and from what i remember, your skin look brighter than that. So i suggested to use color adjustment tools to make it look natural. Its NOT really unethical...
Colour correction wouldnt help, its the right colour, just not the right tone. I could fix it with a photoshop session, but I cant be bothered as its just a record shot, and as I said though you may not agree, it is considered unethical to manipulate some images.
Its a tad underexposed, but to overexpose it anymore in the light it was in would mean using a tiny dof.
and I found a video. So will take a screeny of the highfive :D
And FYI, yes my skin tone is much lighter then that.

Edit:
Its from a bad angle, and its really hard to screeny it.
So this will have to do
