View Full Version : Best Horror Game?
My personal favourite horror game of all time is Silent Hill 2 because the story is sad but beautiful and also terrifying it scare the living hell outta me,
its gotta be the best horror i have ever played.
HORROR the first thing that comes to mind is Nigthmare on elm street and Resident Evil original.
hmm... I think Ill go with Resident Evil 2 ...again.
Hard one!
Resident Evil
Silent Hill 2 or 3
Project Zero 1 2 or 3
hmmmm defiantly a hard one
Firstly, its very difficult to classify a game as just a Horror game.
Resident Evil is Survival Horror, thats official.
Games like Silent Hill and Project Zero, I would call Psychological Thillers, they do more than scare you, they mess with your mind.
So, whats left, Alone in the Dark, perhaps, Condemned: Criminal Origins, who knows.
My favourite of these be it horror or not, is Project Zero.
For the horror factor Project zero by far
I would say Silent Hill Origins (and I guess SH1, as they are both quite similar storywise; they are meant to be, of course). Silent Hill 2 is also brilliant: the characters all interest me and all interact with each other (which you dont see even in some of the best RPGs). The story is, of course, brilliant. The typical Silent Hill scare factor is there in all its glory too, of course.
Ive ordered Project Zero, so this could well change.

As far as the horror genre goes I think Project Zero aka Fatal Frame.
Come to think of it Clock Tower 3 was one of Capcoms ambitious projects too in the horror genre.

My favourite horror games are the ones that had an effect on my psychologically - thats because they were genuinely scary.
1.) Condemned
2.) Project Zero
3.) Silent Hill 2
4.) Resident Evil 3
Yes, Resident Evil 3, its scared me. Having a HUGE hulking creature following you without any time for rest really took its toll on me.

Project Zero 2 Or Fatal Frame 2 in USA.
Second rank goes to Splater House 3 on the Mega Drive, I still play that awesome old game until today b)

I found the NEMESIS a massive stress factor when playing that game for the first time.

hm.. I think Mr.X was friggin scary as you heard his footsteps that made me go all omg hes in this room!!
but in RE3 and Nemesis, the footsteps came really fast making me go omg omg omg and.. yeah, a massive stress factor. still Mr.X is scarier.
you managed to write nothing..
cool.
Well spoken humanice, you spoke like a true gentlemen, nothing scaryer than a big ungly scary b@st@rd chasing after you like mrX and the Nemesis, sometimes i had to go to the toilet at least twice every time they turned up i really sh@t my pants
sorry capcom signed me out while i was typing my topic out( c@%ts )

The game with the best horror factor is the first Fatal Frame/Project Zero.
Manhunt 1 takes the cake by quite a fare margin, lol.
I also give Dead Rising a lot of horror points.
Resident Evil of course and Vampire: Bloodlines, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Silent Hill are also very cool.

Silent Hill 1, Played it when I was 3, Gave me nightmares for like 2 years.
So youre 12? Thats quite amusing. Makes sense.
3 years old playing SH.
I am certain a 3 year couldnt understand the concept of the game at that age let alone play it.
Giving you knightmare maybe if you watched some one play it as it dose have grotesque images.
I also question why was a 3 year old aloud to play 15 (i think 15) rated game? No wonder parents need educating in todays games.
Fankly if thats the case I am disgusted.

hehe.. bondey must have played it when he was 6.. when youre 3? cmon.. my brother is 3 and half years old, he can barely walk around in Mario 64.. but he loves taking the flowers off in a yoshi mini game in Mario 64 DS.. soon hes be smart enough to realize how much crap it is. but he really likes Mortal Kombat.. I mean it... he screams at me all the time Mortal Kombat Mortal Kombat to watch me play some kick ass Mortal Kombat 4.. I manage to win MK4 and it was quite easy.
anyway, Bondey must have been 6.. hes 14 years old and when youre under 5 you almost cant play a game with a remote where you control the character.. BUT you can play games like Wii sports because that has the most simple controls in the world or something.

Youre not a responsible older brother if you play violent video games around your three and a half year old brother. Why not subject him to some Doom and GTA while youre at it.
As for your diagnosis on video game to age correlation - I had a NES when I was 3 and I was perfectly capable of finishing those games.

I actually have played Doom with him... a lot. but cmon, you could not have been 3 years old when you played your NES. you just think you were 3 because it seems so long time ago. Bondey tried to lie like this too, but you got him.
Im kinda still trying to teach my bro to play games, he can walk around on Doom, but end up being stuck on a wall, having a hard time going left and right. but he can play Mario 64, and I enjoyed a lot watching him play Mario 64.. just walking around rooms. ah, makes me proud. hehe..
but GTA, meh.. I dont care if I really show him violent games, what makes people violent is bad parents that scream at them, or bullies that bullied them through school. also, he doesnt like games that are like GTA, games that you walk around and talk to other people. he likes some crazy action games.

I also find what he says hard to believe.
I work with children from 2 to 11 so unless he was a overly intelligent and bright 3 year old hes just trying to look good by telling pork pies!
I also have two children who were 3 once could not play games properly you had to try and guide them which is not a easy thing to do.
Well thats my opinion.

yep.. I agree with you 100%
still, theres one game that I think is one of the most violent games out there o_o thats Bioshock.. that you have to take care of some childs father, then go and kill the child. thats so violent, man. maybe because its realistic.. I dunno. but Id never play that game in front of my 3 year old brother.
You dont have to kill the children, you can choose to save them.
You dont have to kill the children, you can choose to save them.
well.. I always pick the choice for more points and money to buy ammo.
In my opinion its alright for kids to play some violent and horror games like resident evil, doom, god of war because kids know that when there playing beating up or killing monsters. the only games i dont agree with kids playing are grand theft auto, man hunt, project zero, and silent hill.
Because!!!
a...man hunt is showing you how to kill someone with a peace of wire or a kitchen knife.
b...gta is going around shooting peolpe stealing cars mugging people and if kids play this game theyll know how to do it
c...project zero and silent hill are terryfying games they play on your mind alot especially in the dark .
my cusin played silent hill and he was only 11 and he had nightmares for a week.
well thats my opinion.
most scarry game was DOOM 3 .! i dont know what it is about it but it scare the hell out of me i dont like dark conors and i hate when you can here somthing and look after it and the BOOM a big thingy stand in front of you ready to take every singel bone out of you and dring the rest of you blood up from the flore ouch hate it, it will never be install to my pc agin resi games are much more fun for me

Not one person has mentioned Forbidden Siren, Farenheit, Still Life, Call of Cthulhu, Eternal Darkness, Obscure or The Suffering.
*sighs*
I cant really point out one particular game that scares the hell out of me...Im obsessed with the horror/survival horror/puzzle horror genre and so have a fair few games in my collection.
Forbidden Siren is insanely difficult and stupidly scary at moments...the difficulty is one of the main reasons why it is considered scary though.
Condemned does actually scare me...but i think this is because i am used to a more traditional FPS, and having drugged up bums running towards you when you are only armed with a stick is quite scary...
Obviously im a huge fan of the Resident Evil series...but it is in no way the best horror series available. Im actually a bigger fan of the Silent Hill series than of the Resi series...there just happens to be more resi memorabilia available.
Silent Hill is a beautiful series, with an excellent storyline...but the major problem is that the scare factor disappears after maybe 2 or 3 playthroughs.
The best horror games i have played:
1 - Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
2 - Clive Barkers Undying
3 - Forbidden Siren
4 - Still Life
5 - Condemned: Criminal Origins

Eternal Darkness? cmon.. that game wasnt scary. but, yeah.. Forbidden Siren is a scary game.. but its just so boring that I dunno if I should even call it a game.
the other games.. Ive never heard of them. I dont play much games that are made by EA, and all kinds of Japanese RPGs and horror games that no one knows anything about.

Silicon Knights are more focused on Too Human at the moment...but apparently there was talk of doing a second game. Though chances are looking slim now.
Can you imagine how good the insanity sections would be on a PS3 or 360? No more of this fake TV turn off or controller loss...they could actually work it in so that your control pads are turned off...or a little message pops up saying that your hard drive is being wiped or something :P

Yes, i have played all of them.
Doom 3 was a poor excuse for a part of the Doom series and got way too predictable. More focus on the graphics than on the actual gameplay.
Alone in the Dark is an excellent series, but they are poorly made with only number 5 (Near Death Investigation) looking to actually be playable. Still, more focused on action rather than horror.
AvP 1&2 are only scary in parts imo. Very good games and certainly fun to play...but really only scary when you are playing as the Marine, and even then it gets easier and less scary as the game goes on.
As for F.E.A.R...*shrugs* it was good at first, but it just got repetitive and predictable. Still, better than Doom 3 though. And the add-ons for the series just ruined it to be honest.

i agree. The expansion packs for FEAR are really bad and nothing new.
Well i like Doom 3, ok its an partly successfull remake of Doom 1 but its scary (on the 1st time). Then sadly gets boring because of scripted actions. Hope Doom 4 will make it better
Alien vs. Predator is scary as a Marine right, its like the movie. the beep noise from the motion detector full of signals everywhere, its funny
Alone in the dark 4 is good but just a Resident evil clone with some differences but a good classic game.
I once had that freakin scary game where you could vieuw the enemies hidout by Telepatic way i cant remember the title of the game but it make my hart pounding like mad the same day i trade it for a more easy one it was too much for me at that time but from what i have now the scaryest game i say Crimson Butterfly .

The ability you refer to is called Sight Jacking where you essentially hack into the enemies brain and watch what they are watching through their own eyes.
Kind of creepy when they turn a corner and spot your character...*shudders*
I founf Forbidden Siren to be rather dull. played a couple of hours then never went back to it.

Although games like Siren and Rule of Rose look clever, the experience of playing them is a tad dull. I prefer Silent Hill and Resident Evil and even Clock Tower as true innovators of the genre. Alone in the Dark may have started the horror gaming buzz, but the far more stronger influences stem from movies rather than games.
