View Full Version : Best game music
Considering that this forum has gone to **** since the change over (or maybe its just me?) Ill throw in another semi pointless topic, but a fun one, though not a game.
Whats your favourite game music? What song in what game?
For me its got to be ff7 for music, specifically one winged angel and fight on (the guitar boss music)
though all of the music in it was brilliant.
Id also say that the early re games had a great soundtrack.
This all seems to be going down hill recently. I havent heard a piece of music in a game recently that actually grabbed me. DMC4 the battle music is aweful (who has english lyrics in a looped track?) Though some of the boss music was good, and the music in the mansion was quite good.
Of course youve got halo, though thats below ff7.
Anyhow, whats yours?
I win, thread over (http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZfKA4b5SFq4)
Kidding. MGS has always had outstanding, memorable soundtrack, especially MGS1 (original, not shitty remake)
Two games have always had loved sountracks for me, MGS is one, and the Donkey Kong Country franchise is another. RARE prime I say.
Sample here (http://youtube.com/watch?v=73n7HTcmb5g). So many good tracks in both series.

Its not just you.
Final Fantasy VII is easily one of my favourites (if not the favourite) but I honestly dont understand why people like One Winged Angel, its easily one of the blandest tunes in the game. I like everything else though, so fitting and memorable.
My favourites are:
Sonic 1, 2, 3, Knuckles, 8-bit Sonic 1 & 2, Sonic Chaos
Final Fantasy IV and VII
Zelda Link to the Past & Links Awakening
Streets of Rage 1 & 2
OutRun 2006 (the remakes of Splash Wave and Magical Sound Shower are excellent)
Super Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter Alpha 2
Super Bomberman 2
Golden Axe Warrior
TMNT
Rez (the sounds that make up the music)
Columns
Mario Land 2
Overall its between FFVII, Zelda Links Awakening, Streets of Rage 2 and Super Street Fighter 2
Triple Seven

FF VII and Sons of Liberty.
As for new entries, Too Human has a good chance, the music Ive heard so far is excellent, in my opinion. FF Versus may have good music, although thats definately too soon to tell, the trailers music hints at some depth, though. Im not sure about Crisis Core, but I consider remixing Mr. Uematsus music to be a bad idea in general.
On a sidenote, what do you think about Lost Odysseys music, Billy?
Maybe one winged angels just a bit nostlagic.
Either way, I will buy the entire soundtrack when I next get paid and give it a good listen through.

Well Im only on disc 2 of 4 so Ive still got a whole lot more to hear, but what Ive heard so far is really moving and fits perfectly with the story. There are some standout tunes but I wouldnt say its one of my favourites just yet. Ill see when Ive heard it all
hm...
heres my top 10 favorite video game soundtracks
1. F-Zero X
2. Nightmare Creatures
3. KKND Krossfire (I like it, alright?)
4. F-Zero GX
5. Metal Slug 5
6. Goldeneye/Perfect Dark (they both had great *rather samey* soundtrack)
7. Quake 2
8. F-Zero GP Legend
9. Resident Evil Survivor
10. Timesplitters
Final Fantasy 7? only 2 good songs? no good. (same with Castlevania: SOTN)
and my favorite video game song at the moment is F-Zero X Expansion Kit - Big Foot ...it will change VERY soon.
Ive liked the song Nightmare Creatures - Sewer Snake for a very long time, that might be my all-time favorite video game song.
EDIT: agh.. I cant say that, my all-time fav is between Sewer Snake and F-Zero X - Devils Forest
Ill have to say ff7 too. The last bosses (including one-winged angel) and most boss music (Jenova and normal).
I also like Silent Hill songs, such as:
Promise (Reprise)
Theme of Laura
Addicted to You
Letter to A Lost Day
Lullaby
I also like some songs from Final Fantasy Tactics and 9.
What on earth is up with that list HI?
I honestly cant think of any of those games that have made me think about their music.
FF7 has far more then one good track, and if you think only two, then give it a play through and pay more attention.
I also thought someone would have tried to be funny by mentioning guitar hero :D

Duke Nukem? whaaaaa...
I hated the midis in that game so much that I changed every single one of them.. midis from Super Metroid, F-Zero (all games), Mortal Kombat 2/3 saved Duke Nukem for me.. I was used to map make listening to the song deathtoll.mid ugghhh... Im so sick of that music. finally at 2004 I got smart enough to change midis and voc sounds from the game. but DN WITH all my midis = best game in the world. thats why I love DN so much.

try going through.. the mysterious THE hotel and find tracks for F-Zero X and Nightmare Creatures.. but its kinda lame they never released an album with the in-game NC music.. only boss battles.
but, oh.. F-Zero X has the best soundtrack in the world.. and F-Zero GX and PG Legend also have awesome soundtrack. I hate big blue and mute city tho.. but I love Death Forrest and all the metal soundtrack.
I have listened to every single song from FF7 and Castlevania: SOTN (most stupid people say these 2 titles have best soundtrack in video gaming)
the one winged angel? you kidding me? the song from FF7 was really lame, I like the one winged angel song FROM Advent Children, still.. that song is far away from beating the great F-Zero X soundtrack.
the boss fighting music.. hm.. I remember it when thinking about it. its good, but cmon.. it sounds like a midi. it would be better if it was made with a band instead of this computer-made boss fighting song.
and ok, 3 good songs. 1 winged angel, fighting music 1, fighting music 2.. then.. all the other tracks are ridiculously boring. I dont like that a lot. ALL of the songs in F-Zero X are good, the least best track in that is still good.

Did you play the pc version?
the pc version had awefully compressed music and sounded cr*p
The psx versions music was all recorded from an orchastra, not midi, or computerised. It had some electronic keyboard stuff here and there, but was recorded.

Viper, thats even dumber than your normal CDs comment. All the music is synthesized, and all in-game music is MIDI-based, using special synth libraries to create its own sound. The PC version uses the same MIDI tracks, but even with the special libraries supplied with the game installed it sounded terrible in comparison. No compression with the sound, as its MIDI based. With possibly the exception of some cutscene stuff and the vocal track on the Sephyroth (sp?) battle
However, HumanIce, you are in no position to criticize game music. That list is... inconsistent.
Ok I know they are midis (I really need to get some coffee) so that was a dumb comment.
hmm, turns out they are symphed. Either way, it doesnt sound particurly symphed.
Screw the coffee, I just need to sleep.

PC version? I didnt even know it existed..
but, no. I played the game on my PSP.
I didnt even listen to it in-game, I rather listened to every single FF7 song from the soundtrack.
