View Full Version : Resident Evil Extinction - confused and disappointed
Hi all, Im behind the rest of the world in the sense that I have literally watch Resident Evil Extinction this morning, bought the DVD yesterday.
I purposefully ignored topics about this movie on the previous boards because I hadnt seen it, but I have now and now Im confused and disappointed as the title of this post suggests.
I thought the Resident Evil movies were a trilogy? Meaning 3, yet after Extinction the story is obviously not concluded.
***SPOILERS!***
Alice is releasing all of her clones, there is still no cure for the virus yet and Umbrella is not yet defeated, if its a trilogy, what gives?
Im disappointed that Dr. Isaacs, despite being a Tyrant is so easily defeated in the movie, Alice didnt even kill him, the lasers did.
I looked at the back of the DVD case last night, it said running time approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and I thought, Jeez, short movie, but it must conclude the story yet it doesnt.

Am I missing something, are there perhaps more movies to come? Does anyone know?
Thanks.
Bannik.

You dont think Capcom would let the Hollywood movie industry finish of Umbrella, Wesker and the T-Virus? Common sense tells me that they would (and have) left the film open for the series to continue, which btw I sure hope not (an army of alices fighting against zombies in Tokyo? oh please....)
I for one hope this is the nail in the coffin for the live-action Resident Evil movies, which while being comercially succesful for Sony Pictures have always left the fans disapointed. While I think (brace yourselves) the third is probably the best in the three the film is still seriously flawed. None of the charcters get any serious character development (except Alice, who has nothing to do with the Capcom side of the story and the only character to last the entire series), Claire and company bugger off to Alaska and the story dosnt follow her (which it should do, its not called Resident Evil for nothing) and Weskers apperance in the film is just plain dissapointing, it would have made no difference to the plot if he wasnt there at all. With my expectaions so low after the first two films I thought this was going to bad, in a big way, but it was better then I expected it to be. Still, change their names and you have different series of films.
They are a few plus points to the series, Milla Jovovich - her commitment to the series is nothing short of outstanding, Sienna Guillroy makes a wonderful Jill (<3) and, well, thats it. With the CGI film on the horizon hopefully Capcom gives its fans what it wants.

Summary:
If this isnt the last in the series, well....

Its rather obvious that theyll make a 4th, the cure for the virus is in Alices blood, typically. The whole line at the end, You wont have to wait that long boys, im coming for you, and im gonna be bringing some of my friends... Either they want you to guess/imagine what will happend next, but most likely there will be another movie.
Also if you think about it Umbrealla stil wasnt defeated by RE4 its kinda the same thing with the movie.

I guess you take what you want from it, interpretation.
In RE4 I got the impression that Umbrella had been beaten, but that Krauser was trying to revive it.

When RE4 starts the Umbrella Original is for all purposes destroyed they have lost their business and their shares are worth nothing. from a business pov they are finished. Wesker is using the Rival Company to buy the few remaining assets of the company so he can rebuild it with him at the top.
Almost what I got from RE4, I sometimes forget that Krauser was working for Wesker, I mean I knew about Ada, but Krauser I didnt, you only find out because that conversation that Krauser and Ada have in the radio tower on Sadlers Island.
So, Wesker wants to rebuild Umbrella with himself at the top, interesting, but first he would need to get rid of his current employers.
hehe sounds like an re4 x2 :) after all i dit not like the last movie what hapend to jill btw ???
what hapend to jill btw ???
Thats a good question, we should ask someone who has seen the movie - like me ;)
I still dont know the answer.
That is a good question?
Yet another loose end the third movie doesnt tie up, I wonder if she will be in the 4th movie, which my brief Internet search tells me is called Resident Evil: Afterlife, not sure I agree with the title, but meh, the movies are good anyway.

the best way of looking at it is that they are not based on the storyline of the games. As seoarite movies theyre actually pretty good.Wesker was disapointing though much better in UC
This move was so bad... really really bad. The scene (in the Laser-Room), where the mutated Doc will punch Alice (she is on the ground) - have you seen his claw? For a second it has shaking like a big rubber...
For a couple of million dollar production it looks very cheap...
