Red Rings claim display 360 at GDC. (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=92975)
Couldve happened to a PS3 or a Wii, too (however that is significantly less likely). Nonetheless its somewhat entertaining. Presumably not so much for three of Eurogamers staffers, though. Their 360s got one within the last month. For comments on this check the... well, comment section.
777 in all honesty who actually gives a toss? I myself havent had any problems since I purchased it and have been playing it non stop.
Why do you always feel the need to start a fanboy war?

Yeah. Talking about problems is generally likely to cause all sorts of wars. I suggest dancing and singing. You apparently know how you (will/would) react. Therefore I additionally suggest not visiting this topic while youre dancing and singing or doing whatever it is when youre not dancing and singing. News are a no-no, too. On a sidenote, nice console story. I dont actually give a toss, though.

Youre clearly an intelligent person, 777, but it honestly puzzles me how you seem to be completely oblivious to how you come across to others. Perhaps you dont give a toss, but you really are so unprofessional it winds me up.
On top of that, as far as Im aware, you own neither a PS3, nor a 360 (nor a Wii), and Im pretty sure Sony have never donated money to you, or given blood/organs to save your/your families lives, so really why do you care that badly? No poor excuses please - people dont have to know, its widely known the 360 isnt technically the soundest thing on the market and no-one else brings this to light so often. Oh well.
is it possible to get the red ring of death on 360 Elite?
or is it just the old 360..

I wouldnt have normally replied, but I genuinely appreciate your moderate tone.
I post about the RROD because I care. As of this post I own 8 Xbox and 5 [6 now]360 games (most recent purchases being Conan, Beowulf and F.E.A.R.). I am looking forward to Too Human and Fable 2. All of these, in my opinion, are magnificient games, some more, some less. And thats exactly why I am displeased with the (RROD) situation. I dont accept hardware thats clearly defective - by design. Microsoft ignored the problem at first, now they went radio silent again. Its a personal decision not to buy one at this point in time. Claiming that it has a ~ 3% failure rate when reports left and right indicate otherwise (which is what theyve done for a long time) doesnt exactly establish trust.
That radio silence is precisely what Im counter-balancing. Much like in other situations, one person, in general, cant change overly much. Which all but means that he shouldnt change anything.
On top of that I dont think people should be grateful for a 3 year warranty (RROD only, one may add). Thats not a bonus. Its a fix. And not even a good one. But thats just my personal opinion. For the last time, I dont like the current hardware but I like the software (which makes me dislike the hardware substantially more). The question is not if I will get an Xbox but when. -- Previous forum (http://forum.capcom-europe.com/viewtopic.php?t=14636&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30)
Heres the old The Red Rings Topic (http://forum.capcom-europe.com/viewtopic.php?t=13455&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0), Ill collect and add important information from it as we go, such as this:
Its been suggested to switch off the 360 via the gamepad rather than console power button or other measures.
This way, allegedly, the fans stay on for a longer period of time, covering the time it takes to turn off other energy draining parts of the console (which happens automatically, of course).
According to a source otherwise the fans get switched off first. Which is not a good thing and - allegedly - due to an oversight.
Heres how you do it (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemsetup/xbox360/accessories/wirelesscontroller.htm).
Please note that I have no way of confirming how much of this is actually true. As such it is a rumor. What you make of it is entirely up to you.

Most Elite consoles should have a Falcon chip (check for 175 W (with picture) (http://loot-ninja.com/2007/12/18/how-to-spot-a-xbox-360-with-a-falcon-chip-and-why-you-should/); detailed: xbox.com (http://forums.xbox.com/15804553/ShowPost.aspx)). That configuration should make a failure less likely. Nonetheless, theres still a significant chance that itll happen anyway. For further information (not an official statement, sounds very credible, though) have a look at this article (http://www.8bitjoystick.com/archives/jake_inside_source_reveal_the_truth_about_xbox_360 _red_ring_of_death_failures.php).

billybandit, Youre always whining about something. Your first post was a complaint, and i think your last post will be a complaint too.url=http://capcom-europe.com/forums.aspx?g=posts&t=39
You have to show some tolerance, If someone says something negative about your beloved stuff, You shouldnt attack them. I tought you hate fanboys.
Example: http://capcom-europe.com/forums.aspx?g=posts&t=162 (look at your posts)
Im not acting like a senior moderator or a peacemaker father teaching life lessons here, I just find your defensive Atittude childish and annoying.
I think youre being a tad harsh maniacfather.
Billybandit is not moaning, or becoming defensive. Merely just politely saying what he thinks, and many others think. 777 does sometimes seem to come across in the wrong way, intentional or not, and this is because he seems to drone on and on about the xbox vs ps3 stuff. Note that 98% of the time its anti xbox pro ps3.
This would seem a bit fanboyish to most. I usually ignore it, and I guess most people do aswell, but you shouldnt attack billy for speaking up.
Most Elite consoles should have a Falcon chip (check for 175 W (with picture) (http://loot-ninja.com/2007/12/18/how-to-spot-a-xbox-360-with-a-falcon-chip-and-why-you-should/)....
wohoo! Im saved. just looked and noticed that on my 360 Elite box.. I always keep my console boxes on my PC desk. I should have done the same with my PS2 or PSP. but I started somehow collecting them for no reason when my Gamecube got broken and had to buy a new one.
ah, I sure do love my console boxes.. kinda like this guy (http://youtube.com/watch?v=7mIm5BN4cFU).

I have to agree with this, i have been doing the same with my system, and its fine, i think i got a lucky 360. Personally i dont care for these topics, IMO its just an opening for PS fanboys to get a quick Ah ha 360 sucks line in.

You have to show some tolerance
True, I am trying to loosen up, I just think in this context I had a point.
Admittedly its pretty funny how this happened, youd think someone running part of an event this big would have the sense to use a new Xbox. Unless they did. In which case thats very bad luck
Another 360 fouled up at the same place: http://kotaku.com/358646/xbox-360-s-up-at-gdc-part-ii-of-many
All the talk of Rings of Death where forgotten about at the GDC today with the official announcement of Gears of War 2 (Nov 08), as well as Ninja Gaiden 2, Too Human, Fable 2 and talk of 360 only GTA 4 downloadable content proves that there is life in the 360 after all, with this line of exclusives this might make people reconsider whos going to win the console war this year.
People like me, however, are non-biased in anyway - so Ill be playing whatever Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo throw my way. They said 2007 was a good year for gaming, this year might even turn out better.
On the subject, my 360 went wrong last year, phoned up and got a replacement. It really was that easy. It really is old news now.

Apparently not.
Also, its not old news, its new news, repeating itself. Thats a fine distinction. News dont require change. You apparently misunderstand. I dont claim the 360 is dead, nor did anyone else. As for your news, those could be considered old news, at least by your standard. Theres no new game or content (only Gears, but that was obvious anyway) announcement. Fables new features are interesting (albeit the money thing sucks, in my opinion), the release dates are interesting but thats hardly going to make people reconsider, with most of it being old news. But thats not the point here. This topic is about hardware, not software (the 360, in my opinion, undeniably has good software).
I have 2 360 since release.
Not had any problems, when the elite came out i upgraded as it was cheaper to trade my 360 in than buy the 120GBHDD separately.
Ive never had the RROD, but my 360 does freeze alot, saying Please wipe your disc etc, although they are licked clean.....
Can anyone help with this? Id probably buy more 360 games if this didnt happen nearly every time I go on it.
Try a laser cleaning disc.
You lick games to make them clean? YUK lol try proper disc wipes.
