First, time Warner pulled the rug out from under Toshiba by dropping support for HD DVD to exclusively support Sonys Blu-Ray high definition DVD format. Then Netflix and retail big box chain Best Buy pledged their support to Blu-Ray as well, with plans in place to phase out HD DVD completely later this year. Today, Wal-Mart joined the fray and announced it was going Blu, too.

It dose seem that everyone was waiting for one of the big movie studios to commit themselves to one or the other before deciding which to go for, as soon as Warners commited itself to Blu-Ray the end was insight for HD DVD, with the 360s HD DVD player getting very heavy price slashes in stores across america. I think it was a brave move for Sony to incorperate this into Playstation 3 though, and it seems to have paid off. Its not made me shift all my DVDs and replace them with Blu-Ray copies yet though - I watch all my films through a projector home cinema set-up ;)

Ive been following these news over the past months as Ive always put my money on Blu-Ray [well, not literally. Yet!]. But again, I think Sony has managed to think a step ahead of the consumers, where they basically say that eventually most people will have HD flatscreens, which is one of the reasons why they decided to whip up Blu-Ray. And I remember very clearly people laughing and slagging that off on forums, blogs and even news sites.
But I think first when people saw the hard cold sales in Europe and Japan, where Blu-Ray dominates the market, and then when Warner Bros., Netflix and Wal-Mart drops HD-DVD, and now Toshiba; the war is over.
I believe this to be a strong advantage for Sony as now people will start to think in the same manner as when people thought about the PS2 and virtually getting a free DVD player along with it. As far as I know, PS3 is still the cheapest and best, but by no means the worst quality-wise, Blu-Ray player on the market. So what does the consumers go for? An expensive stand-alone Blu-Ray player or the PS3?

Considering that its the better technology, its not really all that surprising. Couple that with the fact I dont have a HD-DVD player yet, only a BluRay one, and Im happy. =P

Its a high definition capacity digital format used to mainly store HIgh Def content. Its manufactured by Toshiba I believe, though I could be wrong. Regardless, it had a lesser capacity than Bluray as well as several features that Bluray has were missing. >_>
But yeah, I think its very close to being on its way out.
Haha, before on the movie commercial it was Now on DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray now its Now on DVD and Blu-Ray. I concider it dead.
And its now official, Toshiba drops HD-DVD. http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Toshiba/Toshiba_Officially_Drops_HD_DVD/1477
hehe full HD TV = 1080 P = PS 3 blu ray :)
hehe hd ready tv = 1080 I = xbox 360 hd dvd :)
so if you want to use the best pic go for a full hd tv if you have a ps3 but, i can say i cant see the change btw 1080 p or 1080 i :) for me its just to cast monny out of the window
I think that will have no efect on the 360 because they will bring out the games anyway and we have seen that the quali.
of the games are the same or even better so i m gona stick with my 360 ^^

Ive just purchased a bunch of HD-DVDs for use with my 360 drive. They are going for insanely cheap prices so Im taking advantage of that. Sure, its the format that lost but HD is HD, no matter what medium its on.

Not a bad idea.
Dead as a door nail.
Never been bothered which format won. I own a PS3 and never used the Blu-Ray player for anything but games. I have a 360 and not once looked at the HD-DVD add on.
I play games on them and with the PS3 i surf the net as I am to lazy to get off my rump to put the PC on.
