Just heard back from the garage the head gassget has gone and it's going to set us back well above £300:cry::cry::cry:

Not to mention the car tax is due on september 1st

Would it not be worth getting a new car?
You could easily trade your current car in for a newer model. It'd cost you around the same price, and probably have less problems?
Either way, that's harsh...alot of money and hastle. Hope you don't get too stressed about it dude.
300 for a gasket? If it blew and wrecked the engine I can understand, but that sounds like a rip-off.
Have you shopped around?

I know nothing about cars, and I love mine.
But if anything like this happened I wouldn't know how to properly evaluate my options.

What sort of garage is it though, ie dealership, or local garage?.
I had a problem with my airbag ages ago and needed a replacement. If i was to buy one from my cars dealership it would of cost me £280.00 for a replacement and to have it refitted. However the same one cost me £150.00 including refitting from my local garage.
Your probably best off ringing all the garages around your area and getting some quotes first, then decide where you go from there.
However you might be best off just scrapping it, and buying a cheap banger.

But i also needed a new thermostat, water pump and fan belt pluss labuor it should come to arround £200
Then £126 road tax on top :(
The car is worth around £1000 so hopefully it will be worth it.
