View Full Version : Do you like MMOs?
My first MMO was FFXI. It was a great experiance for a start not only because it was my first MMO but also because it was the first time I ever played with other people arround the globe but quitted a year later.
My friend conviced me to play with him World of Warcraft and its amazing game IMO had great fun with it.
Aion:The Tower of Eternity looks good but not sure about that one. FFIV was probably the biggest suprise of E3, if not the year, but it looks too familiar to FFXI witsh is a bad sign for me.
The MMO that Im really looking foward right now is TERA if anyone knows that one.
I wrote more than I expected.
What about you? You like MMOs? Any MMO you looking foward to?
In short, I think they are largely overrated.
People are so focused on the prospect of being with other people within a game, that the game itself suffers, nobody cares for the quality, just so they can be in a glorified chatroom, playing MMO's in a single player mode proves this.

I used to be a big fan of MMO's. I played World or Warcraft non stop for 4 or so years and a little bit of Guild Wars aswell. I liked the look of EVE Online and would have got it if I hadn't been paying for WoW. :D
I've heard Aion is going to be a great game. I'm also liking the look of the new Star Wars MMO, Final Fantasy XIV and Champions Online. No doubt they'll all be subscription based though. Haven't heard of TERA yet.

I agree, I've started with Wow somewhere between 2005/2006 and I thought it was fantastic at first, when I saw a lvl 60 I thought "cool". Leveled a char to lvl 33 and got bored with it, I didn't play with others, I solo'ed most of the game and it gets really repetitive thus boring.
With the burning crusade I had to try it again, but just couldn't get into it anymore, everyone was lvl 60/70. The magic was gone and I hated Outland. People were too technical with armor stats etc. and talking about skills and **** I don't care about. The game isn't fun anymore for n00bs like me, not for solo play.
But since you mentioned Aion, When I saw the first screenshots and concept art back in 2007 I believe, I was really hyped about it, didn't like the wings but I can look past that. I think I am going to try this one out.
And FFXIV looks interesting. But the game I want to play most is Monster Hunter Frontier lol.
Edit: I've just watched a TERA vid and it looks good, don't know about gameplay yet but it got my attention now.

Ah, forgot all about that one. Looking forward to this too!

I know exactly what you mean though. I managed to get into BC, even though it was aweful. I just couldn't get into Wrath. Blizzard seem to cater only to the hardcore players. I mean, they gave us achievements, world events and new mini-pets to collect but if you're not in the top arena team or guild, you're not going to get any enjoyment out of the game.
Unless you just like to sit around in the city and talk to people, but that's just backing up what Dante said about it being a chatroom.
The magic was gone and I hated Outland.
Couldn't agree more. :)

That is so true!

Yea Guild Wars I played that one too! Alot of fun. There“s gonna be a Guild Wars 2!

I want Monster Hunter Frontier so bad!
TERA looks great, doenst it? Hope gameplay delivers.
I don't really have time to MMOs, but I had some really good times with Star Wars Galaxies, Silkroad Online and Granado Espada.
I also quite enjoy playing RE5, LittleBigPlanet and Battlefield 1943 on my PS3 [even though I'm no shooter fan at all]. I've tried a bunch of MMOs, but I find Granado Espada the best by far. -I just really appreciate the art direction and mood in the game. It's really well made.
I enjoy MMOs, but never lay them as MMOs. I usually play solo and occasionally with my friends. I just love the style of most MMORPGs and play them merely for that. I play Guild Wars, but I only chose Guild Wars over other MMOs because GW has free subscription, meaning I can drop in and out as I please.

I'm currently playing a Free To Play MMO called Jade Dynasty.
I'm a Level 30+ Modo at the moment, and I don't ever actually do anything with anyone else.
I'll be joining a Guild soonish, but for now I'm prefering to play the game solo. This is why the makers, Perfect World, were nice enough to include a storyline, and storyline quests.
Also, there are hundreds of side-quests, etc.
It's like playing an online version of Fable, though it looks nicer and plays easier.
Even on the lowest specs, Jade Dynasty looks really good, which is quite nice for something that is free.
I'd recommend it to anybody that doesn't like to pay to play.

My first MMO was Guild Wars, yeah MMOs are fun but you must have the time and patience (http://slovnik.azet.sk/?q=patience&l=en-sk) to play them sometimes, I tried City of Heroes but I dont know was kinda meh, World of Warcraft is cool though ^^
TERA looks great, doenst it? Hope gameplay delivers.
To be honest it makes me forget about Aion, we will see in the beta's how it will deliver. One good thing is that it's probably gonna be free.
have you heard about Contintent of the Ninth?

Apparently there's a D&D MMO coming out soon, and that's free to play to.
Sounds like it could be great, though I'm not sure what it actually looks like >.<
I used to like MMO's have been playing WoW for the last 2/3 years, joined at the start of TBC. I stopped playing after the Ulduar patch, it gets a lil bit boring to me. WoW is way more fun with inrl friends, I wouldn't have played that long without inrl friends. Probably will be playing again, when they release the new expansion. I'd have to say WoW is really an amazing game, no doubt about that.
Although the new Star Wars MMO seems promising, probably goin' to try it.

I dont think TERA is gonna be free, it looks to good. But who knows.
No, I never heard of Contintent of the Ninth but now that you mention it, Im gonna google it.
EDIT: Watched some videos. Impressive! Gameplay looks really fun. I might have to add this one to the list.

It depends on what kind of genre/style game you like to play. I don't really know what kind of games you like, so I can't really answer it.
Well I like RPGs shooters, action games stuff like that

I am terribly sorry to revive a dead topic, but I didn't want to make a new one.
Just wanted to say that the North American Tera Online site is up @ http://www.tera-online.com/
Quote of the FAQ:
When will TERA be released in North America? Will TERA be launched globally? (javascript: faq('6');)
The release date is scheduled for sometime in the year 2010. Currently TERA is planned to be available in multiple languages and localized to specific regions. Please continue to visit our site for further updates. And the game is on pay-to-play basis and I don't mind :D
Be sure to check it out for more information about the game. I am glad there's already english support so fast, korean closed beta's just ended nearly a month ago.
