Following up on a story from this morning (http://kotaku.com/5334867/esrb-rates-dino-crisis-more-resident-evil-for-ps3), Capcom has released a list of classic games coming "soon" to the PlayStation Network, with just about every major Capcom property represented. It's a much smaller list than the one we got at the end of 2008, but it's a fine collection of Capcom Classics nonetheless. The list is comprised of ten different games, seven of which are UMD legacy (http://kotaku.com/tag/umd-legacy/) titles, perfect for downloading and playing on the forthcoming PSPgo. Ryan at Capcom spreads the love.
To help rekindle your burning flame of Capcom love, we have plans to release some serious classics for the PS3 and PSP. These are games that I fell for when I was just an impressionable youth. I would sit outside the window at these games' houses, and serenade them with love songs. Finally, they have returned to me, thus proving that they love me too. The three PlayStation games are just as we suspected - Dino Crisis (http://kotaku.com/tag/dino-crisis/), Resident Evil 2 (http://kotaku.com/tag/resident-evil-2/), and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (http://kotaku.com/tag/resident-evil-3%7c-nemesis/). The seven UMD Legacy titles feature hits like Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, Mega Man Powered Up, Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower, and the Powerstone Collection. Check out the full list of games coming to the PlayStation Network below.
- Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded (UMD Legacy)
- Mega Man Powered Up (UMD Legacy)
- Dino Crisis (PlayStation Legacy (http://kotaku.com/tag/playstation-legacy/))
- Powerstone Collection (UMD Legacy)
- Mega Man Maverick Hunter X (UMD Legacy)
- Resident Evil 2 (http://kotaku.com/tag/resident-evil-2/) (PlayStation Legacy)
- Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower (UMD Legacy)
- Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max (UMD Legacy)
- Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PlayStation Legacy)
- Capcom Puzzle World (UMD Legacy)

This will be the USA PSN for certain as at the moment some games have licensing issues in europe due to having a 3rd party publisher.

Maybe the UMD version will make it across.

Thats when they come to Europe.

As they were published by Edios or Virgin Interactive in europe their are delays on those games as the licensing problems need to be resolved.

Unless you have a US account.

Well I'm getting really annoyed with America getting all the good PS1 games. My most favorite gaming franchise is Resident Evil followed by Dino Crisis and to hear America will have RE 1, 2, 3 and Dino Crisis all on there store Soon is aggitating me. I understand theres licensing issues behind these titles but that doesn't mean Capcom should not bother contacting these publishers around the time of deciding to bring these titles to America so Europe don't get left out either.

Look the European PS store manager stated yesterday on the EU playstation blog when asked about RE1 that Resident Evil 1 hasn't even been submitted yet. It was released about 2 months ago on the American store and it hasn't been submit for Europe 2 months later. That tells me Capcom hasn't even approached the European publishers yet about bringing us these games and don't tell us it's up to Sony to approach these Publishers because for months now they have been telling us it's up to the publishers, not them.

So can Capcom come out and state why us European's havn't recieved any of there PS1 classics or even let us know if we will be getting them at all. or when we are getting them because I've gotten very sick of been left out all the time and when the end of October come's and the PS store hasn't recieved even 1 of these Capcom classics I'll be forced to stop supporting Capcom like they have stopped supporting us.

Oh and another thing about the licensing issues. If I was to contact Edios or virgin about these PS1 classic, they would tell me they are having licensing issues with capcom and it would just keep going back and fourth

From what i understand their are ongoing talks with the origianl publishers to get these games on the Euro PSN. These things do take time.

They can't submit a game to the PSN till the licensing is sorted as they would be in legal trubble.

Every one seems to be passing the book as publishers are saying it's Sony, Sony are saying it's publishers but who do you beleive?

Capcom have not stopped supporting Europe on these clasics. Like i have said they are in talks to get these games out but this takes time due to having 3rd partys involved in publishing games.

It was not long ago one of the Staff from capcom said that they are indeed working on it with both Edios and Virgin Interactive to get these games out.

It took more than a year for them to come to the US store after the Japanese store release and the US did not have these publishing issues.

I can garentee the will come but when I can't say as it will make money for all partys involved.

Oh and another thing about the licensing issues. If I was to contact Edios or virgin about these PS1 classic, they would tell me they are having licensing issues with capcom and it would just keep going back and fourth

Why would Virgin interactive, Edios or even Capcom Europe tell you what the process is?
They are not lickley to people what process or how far in the process they are.
A announcement will come more than likley from Capcom Europe when the process is complete and a deal is struck.

What makes it harder is Virign Interactive is no more,

The Company's assets were acquired in 1999 by the French (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/France) publisher Titus Software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titus_Software) -- its name was changed to Avalon Interactive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avalon_Interactive) on July 1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/July_1), 2003 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2003).
In May 2002, the Spanish division of Virgin Interactive, known as Virgin Interactive España, was purchased by Tim Chaney along with former Spanish president and founder Paco Encinas. The branch was then separated from the main Virgin Interactive company, already part of Titus Software, and kept its own identity as a Virgin brand. Renamed Virgin Play in October 2002, this Spanish publisher remains today as the sole representation of the Virgin Group in the video game industry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_industry).

You've also gotta consider the costs it takes to classify these games. It costs some good money to classify a game legally, and as far as I know they must be reclassified for digital redistribution - and obviously it's a bit harder to release a game if you know it won't generate enough profit.

And of course, obvious licensing issues - weren't Eidos and Virgin responsible for RE3 and Dino Crisis respectively when they were originally released? (Before Capcom Eurosoft were established....)

I beleive Virign Interactive did Resi 1 and Resi DC, Resi 2, Dino 1

Edios i believe did Resi 3 and Dino 2

Close enough, I think....haha.

That being said, does the fact that these titles were published by Virgin/Eidos in Europe mean anything when it comes to bringing them to the European store?

i for one will grab these when they hit UK PSN and i hope dino crisis 2 follows :) it was always my fave DC, quite sad they never followed it up with more DC games (im not including the light gun shooter dc3)

i don't have any of the classic resident evils and they are on the top of my list to buy. however, the first three are going for £40 each. should i wait until capcom releases them on the psn (if they do) or should i buy them quick before they vanish????

i saw resident evil 1 wasn't on the list so should i get that one and then the rest on the ps store maybe?

Resident Evil 1 isn't on the list because it's already been released stateside (and japan), but it's still awaiting release here, due to licensing issues so i'm told, so we will get it eventually.

by classic resident evils you mean all the ones that appeared on psx? or do you mean everything prior to RE5?

If you just mean the original trilogy, you could always try the remake of re1 on gamecube and wii, along with RE0, if you mean the actual originals, then i'm sure there must be loads kicking around on ebay and amazon, i still have all mine, but i'm sure you can get them there, if you want ones definately brand new from ebay try using ebay shops rather then auctions, 9 times out of 10 they only sell unused/new products

They did follow up with Dino Crisis 3 which was a Xbox exclusive http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:LVtQYAjddtECNM:http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B00008NB76.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

But it was more like mutated dino's in space but the only reference it had to the DC1 and 2 was Dr Kirk and the 3rd energy project.

The one you are thinking about was Gun Survier 3 Dino stalker

Ah right, yes that's the one i'm thinking of, i never knew there was a dino crisis 3 on xbox as i refuse to touch that console in any way shape or form, Capcom need to make a real Dino crisis game back to basics of 1 and 2 for the ps3 (and 360 i guess with their new no exclusives deal), i'd especially love a followup to dino crisis 2, or even better a dino crisis/resident evil crossover as it takes place in the same universe anyway, i know there's a thread about that already, thats why im only mentioning it here as it fits with the current discussion aswell :)

thanks. i will just wait till they come on the ps store because they are sure to be less expensive than 40 pounds. (which is what they're going for on amazon) i am talking about the old-school 1, 2 & 3 resident evils. unfortunately i sold my wii after completing re4 and umbrella chronicles so
i can't get the remakes..

Or darkside chronicles..... to be fair umbrella chronicles still at this moment remains the only wii game i own, i only bought the console for it, well and wiisports is fun. Of course now i will also get the remakes and darkside chronicles aswell.

Yeah i looked on amazon and saw they were all £40 thereabouts new, though there were some second hand ones knocking about around a tenner or less

never used one of either models that worked well. Only ever had bad experiences with them, so its not because im a sony fanboy or anything, just ive never had a sony console ever go wrong, or had any friends who''ve had sony consoles go wrong, whereas all my friends who have xbox and 360 consoles have had nothing but problems with them, which is why i stayed away from them (the consoles not the people )

Get a newer 360 with the Jasper chip.

Do it, you won't regret it.

jasper chip?

it the newer chipset that reduces the RROD.

I have had 2 360 since dec 2005 and not had the RROD or the E74 error (touch wood)I upgraded to the elite through choice.

But yet I am on my 3rd Ps3:chin:

Neither of my 360s have Jasper, one of them has RRODed twice(I've had it since not long after release, I do believe it's over 3 years because my warrenty has now run out...), while the other hasn't at all(more recent, I've had it for less than a year, I think).

I just came across this thread at my frustration of Dino Crisis still not appearing in this week's European PS Store update.

After hearing a 3rd party publisher called Virgin Interactive was involved I can rather depressingly and safely say it is never going to happen. I've come across these guys before, or to be more accurate, they don't actually exist. EA bought out Virgin for Westwood's Command and Conquer series and ditched the rest. I wouldn't be surprised if rights have been transferred to squatters or subsidary holding companies to massage the financial accounts.

Along similar lines Eidos was bought buy Square Enix, which I can imagine is one of Capcom's competitors. Anyway, there's still some hope there because they haven't displayed the same reputation as Virgin/EA.

I know Capcom Europe are working on a solution to this, but if or when this will happen I have no idea.

Yirba

I'm assuming that for the Eidos side of things, it will be dealt by Square Enix Europe?

Anyway, it will be interesting to see if the original Resident Evil will be released on PSone Classics. The version released in Japan and the US is the DualShock version, which I believe was never released in Europe. Maybe we would get the standard Director's Cut, with or without the uncensored cutscenes... The whole Resident Evil situation is in a bit of a mess. Still, there's always the Nintendo DS version. ;)

All I know is that Capcom Europe were in talks with the previous publishers.

Not sure what the outcome was. Hopefully a Admin can enlighten us if they can.
