Hello everyone!

There were many problems reported on previous forum, and since Capcom Europe cant provide official tech help for older PC games I am posting some known major problems and their solutions here. There isnt any official patches for this games so dont ask for it. Second thing, I am just a member of this forum and have nothing to do with official Capcom or any part of this company, do everything on your own risk.

If you have any other solutions, feel free to post it. If you have problems, ask and someone will answer.

Resident Evil 1 PC: (Virgin Entertainment)

Known issues - Game cannot be played on Windows XP SP2. Fast gameplay.

Game will run only at Windows 95/98. In order to play game on Windows XP you have to run it in compatibility mode. If game wont autorun, find setup.exe icon, right mouse click, open properties and under compatibility mode pick Run this program in compatibility mode for... and choose Windows 98/Millenium. Click OK, run setup and install game. Setup needs minute or two to start so be patient.

When the game is installed, click Start - Programs - Capcom - Resident Evil. Do the same with resident evil.exe icon as explained above. You must run it in compatibility mode. Play the game. Your CD must be in CD-ROM.

If the game is way too fast and zombies are running, quit game and try this one. Download small program called cpugrab (Developed by Microsoft DirectX team), put CPU grab up to 20-25 and play the game.

After you completed Leons scenario, save and exit game. Again on your HDD create folder called RE2 Clarie and again translocate your savegame location. If I am correct, your monitor size is 15 and max resolution is 1024x768. What better display do you want?

I have 17 and max resolution is 1280x800, bur RE4 can go up to 1600x1200.

Mini game The Mercenaries is available for PC from the beginning. You dont have to complete main game to obtain this mini game. Only, there is problem that Mercenaries wont work under Windows XP. :(

You have .exe icon RE3_MERC and RE3 located in your install folder, and you can pick between Play Resident Evil 3 and Play The Mercenaries in autorun menu.

Can you describe your problem with mouse support? You cant find any mouse support upgrade for 1.10 EU patch or something else? If you dont know how to install it, just extract files in Resident Evil 4 install folder. (example C:/Program Files/CAPCOM/resident evil 4)

Future Support tab? Let me look onto it and will post solution later. :)

Which OS do you use? XP32/64 bit or Vista32/64? Your comp freezes like, you have to restart it or ctrl+alt+del to end program? Sometimes when you have strong PC, it just cant run old games, but...

Try to downgrade you graphic card drivers, it helped when I was trying to run Blood Omen and games alike. You can roll back drivers to previous version in your Device manager (right click on My Computer icon and run Properties - Hardware - Device Manager). Note that Windows can sometimes display warning message that downgrading drivers isnt safe, so do it on your own risk. You can search in Windows help Center how to roll back driver.
