View Full Version : What does 'Resident Evil' mean to you?
When you hear those words, what do you think of?
Resident Evil of course, from the first on the PSX in 1996, right upto whatever Resident Evil game came out before Resident Evil 4 did.
I thought it wouldnt be so soon before I insulted somebody on this board...*holds it back*...
*sigh*
What I mean is; conventions of the series,a game in particular, a character maybe, a certain time when it scared you: fond memories of it.
Particular scenarios, key moments, weapons, enemy sounds or designs etc.
So when you hear the words Resident Evil...you think...Resident Evil...
*slow caps and walks away*.
When I hear this words I think about UMBRELLA, the end of what all we know for a virus that colapses the world, a course for life. Sometimes I think, if there was a plague like in the game? Hehehehehehe....
When i hear those words I think of the time when Nemisis jumps through the window of the police station on my first play through Resi 3, and me falling out of my chair.

This cover exactly. Probably because it was the first time I ever HEARD of Resident Evil, and I picked it up and put it back down thinking it was too scary.
I even thought of that when I saw the name of this topic. Its weird how this is the first image that comes to my head whenever I think of the name.
Was that the kind of response you were looking for, James? =P

yep, the first Resident Evil I ever played. I bought it because of the cover because it looked cool. but I ended up turning into a RE fan and now I have almost every RE game out there. ...I should have done the same with the metroid series -_- but there was no metroid for N64, so I never knew what it was and it wasnt until 2004 I figured metroid was my favorite gaming series..
but when I think about Resident Evil.. the first thing that comes to mind is good night, UUGH!!, whydoesshitlikethishappentome! and thats because I played Outbreak waaaay too much. Im pretty sure every Outbreak Jim player remembers these words..

Well I think of an Evil house, as Resident Evil 1 was the first I played and I liked the idea.
Ive always thought the name Resident Evil suited the first game more, and Bio-hazard suited everyone.
Zombies! Ganados! Resident Evil 5 enemys!
When I first heard about it the name did not mean or said much too me.
I heard though it feat. Zombies which I was into after seen Day of the Dead triology and Flesheaters recently.
Plus at the time 3D was pretty much new still so when I first got my hands on the PSX version I loved it and thougth it was great :D
I liked the whole idea of an isolated mansion with no chance of backup and one had to survive.
Years that passed there after I connected the name with perfect horror.
Until RE4 where I now connect it with some of the lost horror now replaced with more common action.
Quivers down my backbone.
But to tell the truth, the feeling seems to vanish in the haze of the new mainstream order. I hope Resident Evil will come back to the roots - or I quit my friendship.
It was a week-end in 98 or so. A friend and I we lent a playstation with some games and had a funny afternoon. And after some games (cant remember what kind of games) and some Bourbon there was only one game left to play: Resident Evil 2. Put it in... and I was excited.
Ever since Im a fan of the series and hope to stay it for a while.
Normally those long-armed, yellow enemies from code veronica x.
Sometimes I think of Alexis (burning and mutating etc). Sometimes I think of the big crocodile from resi 2. It seems to vary hugely.

What do I think?
Zombies, groans, and the classic theme of Resident Evil 2 when you first start in the streets...*plays violin* Classic

Residents gone evil? An evil population?
Global issues? Sounds more like a title for a war game than a horror. :|

Makes me think of... The Start screen to Resident Evil for PSX, where some guy who looks like chris is walking through the mansion and its in FP mode of a zombie straddling behind him and chris turns around and screams and then it gets a close up, on his eye :P
EDIT: and Samalus, I too have dreamt of the T-virus becoming reality... Real life Dead Rising here I come :P

Viral experiments and the completely no-morals policy of gaint two faced corporations. Resident Evil to me represents the clear and present dangers of todays world.

When you hear those words, what do you think of?
Games that generally used to be good up until recently. A negative trend also trackable in other franchises, namely Onimusha and Devil May Cry. Please note that Ive used good as a description being primarily based on a, my, subjective opinion.
