View Full Version : Having problems playing Resident Evil 4 on Windows Vista? If so read this.
Ok well I had Windows XP up until a couple of weeks ago and I made a backup of my SavedData.dat file as I had gotten really far in the game. I tested it by replacing the old SaveData.dat file with the new one, it worked perfectly. Now, on Vista I did the exact same thing and it doesnt even come up on the load game menu so I started a new game got to the first save then exited the game. Then I deleted the SaveData.dat file (that I just made) and restarted the game and when I got to the load game menu the save file is still there! so whats going on.... does Windows Vista save the SavedData.dat file somewhere else??? ive looked everywhere and I cant find it please help.

Moved.
Try re-installing the game, If you still havent. The SaveData.dat is in the same place as it is in XP, the games root folder.
I have reinstalled the game several times, I even reinstalled Vista 3 times. Also whenever I change the screen resolution from windowed or full screen and widescreen on or off it has no effect in game, it always goes full screened in the 1280x800 resolution with no widescreen (my drivers are fully up to date)
So, I want to know why I cant load backed up save data files on Vista when I can on XP And I want to know why when it has no effect when I change the resolution to 1440x900 and turn on widescreen when im in game.
Ok I found out the problem, its caused by Vistas User Account Control, when its on I cant change the resolution or any of the settings and it doesnt load saved games yet when User Account Control is off I can load saved games, run it in a window, change the resolution, controls and everything, its perfect. Ive tested this several times and Vistas UAC is definatly the problem. Im running 32-bit Windows Vista (may work on 64-bit Vista to). Ill change the name of this topic so if anyone else has any problems with it they know how to fix it aswell, perhaps make it a sticky?
