Okay who here on the board has COD4? What do you think of it? Checking out the reviews and from what friends have said the game is brilliant.

Is it worth picking up? (Id buy it for the 360 as dont have a ps3)

Opinions on it please!

Matthew

I know Billy and Hara will big it up. Theyre pretty reliable. Member_of_STARS too.

Unfortunately I cant say, but Im willing to bet its worth picking up, just wish my goddamn housemate would have an epiphany and realise he NEEDs it.

Personally I dont like it. Although there are alot of epic moments during the single player campaign, there simply isnt enough change from the other CODs to warrant a purchse, except the transposition of the story into modern day.

I know my opinion is in the minority though, so see how you go.

The single mode is alright, but its the online mode which really makes the game truly epic, lol. You have a variety of matches to choose from, loads of different weapons to get/customize, etc.

I would really recommend this game for those of you who love to play online multi-player games, really worth the money and the replay value is fantastic as you can litteraly play for months on end going through all the prestige modes.

Single Player mode is extremely limited and scripted. Youre pretty much limited to going from A to B exclusively, shooting bad guys up. Theres no freedom. Whatever epic battles you may encounter, the scripted story sequence (advance only when reaching specific spot A, like a doorway) will kill the feel. Its OK if youre used to platformers, but if there are games with at least some freedom, youll immediately feel the difference.

As for online play. COD4 officially surpassed HALO3 online on X360. COD4 is by far the best online game since 2005, and it was a god damn long gap. Theres pure quality, refined gameplay, 100% fun and the hype is all justified and met.

All in all- go for it. It may be a while before we see another good MP game.

I enjoyed the game even though I am not really into FPS. I would recommend second hand if you can get hold of one.

I have to say i did not like it, dont get me wrong its a good game, but im not really into FPS, the first few mission were ok, but i wasnt compelled to finish it. Im glad i rented it though because to me it would of been a waste.

You should try it before you buy it, in my opinion

Its a good change from the WWII style of COD I would reccommend buying it because completing the game on Veteran (which ive done) is quite challenging especially 3 missions in particular, so if you want a fun, challenging game try this and its use of modern day weapons *P90* upps the game just a little bit
and the online component is absolutely magnifico :P
Overall 10/10 in my opinion

Well Matt (snap!) I know you dont have your 360 online ( unless you do now ) in which case I wouldnt recommend it.

I was ranting about this the other night to Billy and Franzkill talking about the difference between a great game a great package, CoD4 is a great package, A great package being a jack of all trades master of none. As a single player game it is decent and offers variety but ultimate fall short for various reason ( one being its liner nature ) as a multiplayer game it is also decent what with the EXP system and prestige stages you go though to unlock better weapons and ranks. as a whole the package is fairly shallow. the single player story could have been a breaking commentary on the political state of middle eastern countries but the game see it fit to remove any direct reference of what country or government faction you are actually fighting, giving the universe a more of a good vs bad vibe then actually giving any kind of reason as to why you are fighting a war. All you really know is they killed their president, they have WoD and you have to stop them. That said though, it is a fairly good character driven story. The characters Peirce, Gaz and Griggs are memorable guys much like Gears of War once you complete the game you find the only part of the story you really enjoyed was meeting and fighter the war with said characters.

Since your 360 experience is limited to offline single and multilayer Call of Duty basically loses 60% of the package goodness (much like Halo 3, though Halo 3 offers good offline multiplayer also) so I cant recommend it.

A better example of a great FPS package game for offline 360 owners (and PS3 owners) is the orange box, 4 total enticing singleplayer games and one online game meaning the vast majority of the package can be enjoyed offline.

A example of a great FPS game thats not package is Bioshock. If its a great story driven FPS game your after then look no further.

Not as much as I would have done a couple of weeks ago but overall Id say it is a great game.

Single player is very linear. However, if you dont mind playing through a game with a short but sweet story then you cant go wrong - the gameplay is totally imacculate, weapons are great, characters youll get to know and like, good story, epic feel. If youre into exploration and whatnot then I wouldnt recommend this so much. Theres a nice amount of variety (gunships, sniping, stealth, big shootouts) and a perfect range of difficulty - although Veteran can be piss-takingly hard.

Multiplayer - I was all over this a couple of weeks ago, but the flaws have put me off lately. The maps are really good, but the online allows for some really cheap tactics. Youll find spawn-killing is common - therell be times when youll respawn only to find an enemy watching your exact spot and youll last literally split-seconds. All online games have people with bad tactics but theres no prevention in this game. Usually the game runs smooth but if theres any lag, youll soon know about it - character running all over the place without any input, strings of shots not making any contact. But all in all the online is very good and has a good ranking/customisation system

Try before you buy, but if in doubt then Id say get it

First of all, I have to say that FPS`s not my favourite games but Call of Duty 4 has blow my mind. The story mode is very impressive and the new scenario (not always the ww II scenario) brings a new feeling. Much better is the online gaming, I have the game now over 4 weeks and I play it every day online - not so long but I play it every day. ;)
