...nice work Chompman, seems your annual visit to the forum has resulted in everything going.

There was no need for this, Ive seen forums that have had big upgrades - theyve not needed to wipe everything, so why should here be any different? Now the long termers are reduced to the status of noobs, all the information is lost, everything is totally alien, there was absolutely no need - so terribly handled. To say I dont care would be hypocritical and this topic will undoubtedly get locked but yeah, I dont think I can be arsed anymore.

Data can be transferred. Ill give these forums some time to adjust, and even though the old forum format was horribly outdated, this doesnt really strike as anything better either. New Posts Since Last Visit is missing, and so forth.

And by the looks of things, no more CAPCOMpetitions?

So... indeed.

Personally I dont see what the fuss is with this upgrade. Sure, posts got lost but ultimately, does it really matter that much? Im way beyond caring about my status. After a while, it all became a huge superfluous blur to me and I have only ever posted for the pleasure of interaction with other users.

Admittedly, itll take some getting used to with this renovation [plus its a bit glitchy at the moment - it doesnt actually log you out when you ask it to] but Im all for change.

And FINALLY, people can stop asking about custom avatars now we have the option for that.

i got stuck on the old forum, never even knew this was made. I was sat there like a noob trying to comment on pages but it said only mods can post in em then nemesis showed me the new one :P

The old one was retro, comfy and just home. I feel slighty cheated I wasnt told, or didnt look to see this was happening. And BLUE SMILEYS???! I miss the yellow ones

this forum works pretty much the same as the old one but its just a upgrade, so i have nothing against if i have to start over since peoples only care how much they post.

Agreed,

And I think the blue smilies are supposed to be PC

There was a topic posted in Capcom Latest on the old boards that confirmed the forum and site were getting a revamp.

All in all though, once we get rid of the bugs (and I hope this is happening =P) then thisll be perfect.

Nice to see the user responsible for me becoming a mod - Jinx - back, albeit with a different name. Nice to have you back!

EDIT: Whoops though I should edit out Jinxs real name, since she might not share the same level of open-ness about names as I do =P

Actually its not, theres a more useful version of it called Active Topics

And by the looks of things, no more CAPCOMpetitions?

No more CAPCOMpetitions thread, but there will still be compeitions

Honestly speaking I consider the (old) new posts option to be vastly superior. It provided a list of topics and didnt force users to check each board individually. In a nutshell, it was more effective - unless Ive overlooked something, which is absolutely possible.

edit:

I stand corrected. Clicking on the Active Topics button (top right corner, next to Members) should do the trick. It may even be better.

That came with the switch to Moderator status.

I already complained enough on another forum I visit when they switched over. What was the need for the switch? You couldve at least switched to VBulletin instead. I really agree with billy, I dont see any need for this. The anti-spam system worked and nothign was wrong...

You people dont like change do you! =P

Chompman
23-01-08, 18:03
Well, one reason for the change was that we wanted to link the forum and the website more closely together, and the new board makes that a lot easier

James Mitchell

I like the change Chomp, integration is always one of the things I value most in a website, and was something I was looking into doing with Capcom Central back in its glory days.

OK, so you wanted to link the website and the forums, make them closer.

Does that mean that the website was written in ASP.NET?

If it was I can understand the need to switch the forums to ASP.NET based forums.

However, my experience with ASP.NET based forums reveals that they are buggy and unreliable, I would have stuck with PHP, however like I said, I understand the change.

Its definitely running on the ASP.net architecture. Ive got a few error messages already signifying that (though they were my own fault).

Try this. I recommend adding a break, as I have, and aligning it to the Right. It keeps it very uncluttered.

Correct. Youve won a star prize.

Nonetheless, the feelings mutual on the welcome-back.
