View Full Version : The best controller
What is the best controller for you to use in any Capcom fighters? For me it is the Sega Saturn Controller for a variety of reasons but the main one is that it has 6 buttons on the front and a QCF friendly D/+ pad.

Actually my favourite controllers for fighters in general is the PS2 controller(well every fighter minus Super Smash Bros, i've tried it, it's not a good idea), but I quite like using the 360 controller:redface: although I've only used it for Soul Calibur 4 so far, as I've yet to play SF4.
For fighting games it's a arcade stick for me.

Those Saturn-controllers looks neat and handy!
Are they still available and can I connect them to the pc so I can play SFIV with them?
I'm currently using the SFIV-fightpad from MadCatz, but I'm not too positive about it (I got three of them and they ALL got issues).
I use the XBox 360 controller for Windows
I actually think the 360 controller is pretty good, some people dont like the d pad but i think its quite nice, a lot better than the playstation one anyway, that thing gave me a horendous blister.

Ebay. You can buy some for like £13 or 2 for £24. Neat thing is that you can also use it for PS3.
Get an arcade stick. Amazon UK has the madcatz SF4 sticks at much more lower prices than the rest of the stores.

Although they look really cool and stay true to the arcade-feel, I can't play for shizzle on a stick. I need a pad.

I'm using the 360 controller for SFIV and the PS2 controller for the older fighters. They tend to give me blisters. :/

I was thinking of buying one of them MadCatz fightpads but was unsure. What problems do they have? And do you feel that they are better/easier to use than the normal controller? :)

I'd say the MadCatz ones are easier to handle than the default x360 ones (thanks to the larger d-pad). I also like the button arrangement on the MadCatz.
The problem I have with one, is that downleft won't work properly, unless I press very hard (much harder than the other directions). Another MadCatz has the same problem, but with upleft (I also hear a click when pressing up, and then a click again when pressing down. When my last push was down, it won't click anymore when pushing down 'till I press up again). The last one has horrible pushback on the 6 main buttons (they are kinda lazy and won't come back up easely, sometimes I kinda 'lean' my finger on a button and my move won't come out 'cause the button is still pressed apparently, which it shouldn't be).
A friend of mine also bought a MadCatz. After three days, pressing down wouldn't work anymore, nomatter how hard we pressed. He sent it back and is still waiting for a new one.
So there you have it, all three of mine got their own specific issues (and they're not more than 8 days old now) and one of my friend's had an issue as well. I also had a MadCatz a long time ago for playstation, it was crap. People suggested I should try again because MadCatz changed and they would now be producing 'quality' products. Well, the price surely suggests quality, unfortunately the MadCatz from back then is still the same as today. Cheap products made out of disposable parts that become fluid after a hot day (not really but you get the point).
I still play with those pads 'cause I have no alternatives. I can work around the issues, but it makes everything a bit harder. When I use my older PS3 controllers, the movement is fine and the pushback is as well, but I can't stand the button arrangement and the d-pad is blistering small if you ask me.
That's my story. I'd advice you to take a look at the Saturn controllers. Good luck!

Ah right, I see. Thanks for the reply, it's given me something to think about. It's a shame most MadCatz products seem to fail quickly. The TE stick sounds like the only solid product so far.
I remember having a saturn controller, they were brilliant for for fighting games. :D
