There could be something showing what gender you are next to the country flag.

Yeah, and also weight, height, race and religion :p
I dont think its necesary, if you wanna know someones gender, just go to introductions :)
Agreed, is it really necessary? its not a dating website...
Some people don't want their gender known.
It's not realy needed.
If you wish to know what gender people are start a anonnimous POLL
I think it has to be in profile, but not next to the avatar.
So, if anyone wants let other people know it can select it.
actually ... i would like to have the gender shown ( we can keep it optional for the ones who don't want ) ...
gender and age might be nice , i would like to know at least the gender and age of the one that i am talking to ... it actually can improve the way of the dialog ....
i might go a talk with a person with a deep detailed information and he turns to be a 10 years old who did not understand what the heck i was talking about or i keep talking to a guy assuming that he is a male and turns to be a girl ... some times that can be embarrassing !!
cewolf out

Personally I found that finding out someones gender online can change your outlook of that person significantly.
I was on another forum, and there was a memeber who was more or less bullied for her opinions on things, she posted a picture of herself on said forum and became instantly popular.
In a male-dominated forum, I'm just worried girls would be mistreated and guys, ignored.

I wasn't thinking of it like that...just a simple touch to the forum. If people don't want to show ther'e gender they don't have to.:)

But what would be the point? Nationality has the aspect of informing people that English may be a second language for some, there are no misunderstandings caused by ones gender.
At first I thought that showing gender would be a good idea, as it could help avoid confusion and stuff. But then I figured it doesn't matter, since online I don't treat anyone differently and I prefer it that way.

Since I don't think you do this, I don't see the problem. You can keeping to not watch for users' gender. ;)
Something like this would be obviously not required.

Girls seem to like it when your flirting, serious or not, but if treated guys like this they may think I'm homosexual(I'm not saying there's anything wrong with homosexuality before anyone starts) or simply be weirded out, I do it to close male friends because they know I'm joking and do it back(my friends are seriously camp, I do my best to fit in without seeming camp). I treat most guys as manly men, you know, as if we all like to stare at breasts, drink beer and talk about cars and sport, while we may do none of that, it's just the sense of masculinaty.
Online I treat everyone as 'that person online' and don't regard gender. When talking to people online I try to keep things high-brow even my jokes(although the odd one slips through the net). I feel I can express intelligence and confusion online without seeming like an utter douche, which makes me communicate differently, thus treating others differently.
OK, I was thinking about another type of "difference".
By the way, you can always ignore that.

Some do, some don't. Rest assured that those who do will make it very clear that they're girls and will start the flirting themselves.
Personally I don't, never did and I know that other girls here and in other forums really don't want any virtual flirting at all. As far as I'm concerned I can't see any achievements in publicly displaying the gender apart from drawing unwanted attention and increasing vulnerability. Let's be just people, I think it's good enough.
Did you have any doubts? :p

None :thumb:

Nope, I just knew your involvement would put an end to it. :high5:

I get what you mean, I know girls that would never flirt unless actually trying to get something(on second thoughts that sounds kind of bad) and would be weirded out if I or anyone else flirted with them. So I don't, it really depends on the person, but generally most of the girls I know expect it. I treat girls differenlty online because first of all I'm not bothered that they're girls, and the fact that it must be kind of creepy to have someone flirt with you online(assuming you don't really know each other and it isn't some kind of dating site).

Exactly. Let's not encourage creepiness ;)

Actually, now that you all say it, there isn't a lot of point in having your gender put up on the forum, (and i'm not just sayin' it). Whatever age, gender, religion whatever, everyone is,(and should be) treated the same.
Because we're all on the forum as all like playing games.
