I was somewhat skeptical of this game, since I had read several reviews from reliable sources and was told that it was quite terrible.
But I approached this game with an open mind, I've played my fair share of terrible titles, some of which have a weird charm to them, despite being fairly mediocre outings at best.
I'll be honest here, I've only really played this game for an hour due to my current circumstances, so, this is what I think of it so far -
Overall, it seems quite polished, the graphics are superb, the visual effects and the details gone in to the cityscape are certainly a vista.
Gunplay seems rather dated, but practical, its a simple but flexible system, I'm yet to see a weapon that requires reloading (if any), a lack of a need to reload could be annoying, but I'm yet to see if the lack of a need to reload is necessary for combat during a swing to work.
Swinging is highly fun, I've enjoyed such a thrill during games like Spider-Man, and the fact you need to learn it, brings back memories of the first game, where swinging is vital to proceed, easy to learn but hard to master. As I said, I'm yet to see how combat fairs with swinging.
I've not used the arm functions properly yet, but from what I've seen during the tutorial, combat with the arm looks highly promising, especially sending an object flying in to the air and batting it at the enemy.
Stuff that has annoyed me so far is the constant need to jump whilst running on the floor, it seems that randomly placed debris is put there to encourage swinging, however, this was annoying during the opening level where it's impossible to swing indoors.
Also annoying, product placement, Pepsi vending machines seemed like blatant advertising, I'm used to in-universe fictional products, so to see a real-world item is something of a groan inducer, although, the Tricell sign did make me smile...
So far, Bionic Commando is both promising and filled with annoying and unnecessary fault, the extent of this remains to be seen, I'll have to do a big chunk of the game in order to give a fair opinion of it, but so far its an average fair with the good stuff only just drawing my attention away from its faults.
So, what do you guys think?
