EVO touts record attendance, Capcom ensures $25k total prize for Street Fighter IV
Jun 26th
The Evo hype train gained some steam this week with the announcement that both attendance and prize pool numbers are breaking records. Chief among the fighting game pools is a Capcom-guaranteed $25,000 for Super SFIV Arcade Edition 2012 in celebration of the series’ 25th anniversary. That’s a nice slice for anyone in the top eight!
Our own Christian Svensson (or Sven, y’know) lays it all out:
“With Capcom celebrating its 25th Anniversary of Street Fighter this year, we thought it fitting that Evo’s Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 2012 competitors should play for $25,000. Capcom wouldn’t be where it is today without the support of our hardcore fans, and this is just the first of many exciting opportunities to help celebrate this milestone for the Street Fighter franchise.”
Not an SFIV player? Ultimate MvC3 entrants can look forward to a $15,000 pool, and the two-person teams of Street Fighter X Tekken will be playing for $9,000. And if you miss Evo, we still have that year-long tournament series…
Street Fighter's 25th Anniversary Tournament Series!
May 23rd
Back in January earlier this year, we teased that we had some pretty huge plans in store for this years Street Fighter 25th Anniversary. Today we are happy to reveal a couple of core pieces of the celebration: a huge collector’s set (only available in North America) as well as a giant world wide Street Fighter tournament that we’re backing with half a million dollars worth of prizing and amenities!

As if that wasn’t enough, the first place SFxT player gets a custom Scion FR-S Sports Coupe! It includes a custom video entertainment system from SCEA, modified exterior from Five Axis and other components from other aftermarket companies.
European Street Fighter fans will have TWO chances to take part in the celebrations, with one event in London taking place during the Eurogamer Expo in September, as well as another event in Paris during Paris Games Week in November! More information on both events will follow shortly whilst we finalise the details.
Lastly, there will soon be a new site where you can share your own SF fandom. Head to http://www.streetfighter.com/sf25 for more info – it’s not fully operational just yet, but it will be soon. More on that to come!

So you’re going to win a round in Super Street Fighter IV, but how do you make your opponent cry extra salty tears of defeat? Cancel into a special or super to add extra hits after the KO! Here’s a tutorial from Snoooootch to show you how it’s done. I’ve done it a few times, by accident, but it does look cool.

Fighting game documentary, Finalroundbats, by Scott Popular is the “First of a series of video documents, following the fights at Finalroundbats Tokyo. Finalroundbats is a brawler tournament held in Tokyo with the aim to form a team of strong Japanese players in order to snatch some prize money from American players at the big brawler event in Atlanta.” They play Street Fighter, MVC3 and some other fighting game that we won’t mention…

A very funny video by Cosmopanda that shows Dan at his best. Or at his big headed and oblivious worst.
