Asura’s Wrath unleashes on UK shores today bringing you rage, anger, six arms and giant planet crushing Buddha fingers!
Asura’s Wrath is a collaboration between Capcom and Japanese developer CyberConnect2, and introduces a brand new style of gameplay that redefines the action genre, fusing Asian mythology with science fiction and delivering unprecedented levels of dynamism, drama and interaction. Play as Asura and face off against numerous enemies, including planetary sized bosses. Through a mix of range attacks and visceral close quarter action players will fill Asura’s ‘Burst Gauge’ unleashing the full force of his rage and delivering devastating attacks on those who betrayed him.
Let’s check out some of the critical acclaim that Asura’s Wrath has been garnering:
Eurogamer: “Alongside a rhythmic and uncommonly accessible beat-’em-up, Asura’s Wrath is part rollercoaster, part anime blockbuster and part stress-ball.” 8/10
Joystiq: “The quick-time events add weight to some fo the most incredible, nigh-unbelievable moments I’ve ever experienced. Indeed there are too many such moments for me to recall them all” 4.5/5
Videogamer: “It’s important to really convey just how seismic Asura’s beatdowns are. This is a guy who can kill a god with a headbutt, or punch his way out of a demonic fish that’s the size of America.” 8/10
GameInformer: “The ridiculous moments and likable characters kept me smiling, which was odd, considering it’s essentially a story about misery. It’s a nice change of pace from other hack-and-slash games.” 8.5/10
G4TV: “In terms of story and presentation, Asura’s tale is one of the best of this console generation… Asura’s Wrath is a great experience, and one of the most outright fun games this year.” 4/5

And as if that wasn’t enough we have news on the DLC packs that are headed your way – anime and Street Fighter fans should take note because the first two packs will offer a completely new artistic look taking their inspiration from the world of anime. Check out these screens, click on them to make them bigger.
These DLC packs explore what happened between episodes from the full game. What was going through Asura’s mind when he fought against his mentor Augus? Which is the right path for Yasha to follow; should he betray his friend Asura or take his side against Deus? These questions will be answered when the DLC episodes launch shortly after release.
Following this will be DLC that promises Asura’s ultimate battle where the strongest take on the angriest. The world’s greatest warriors from Street Fighter appear before Asura, challenging him to a fight and creating a DLC offering that fans won’t want to miss.

Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has reviewed Asura’s Wrath and, as you can tell from the headline, it’s really done rather well. The score breakdown was 10, 10, 9, 9 from the four reviewers, and that’s making us feel kind of smug. Asura’s Wrath is out on 24th February in Europe and 9th March in the UK for PS3 and Xbox 360.
Asura's Wrath Quick Time Interview
Feb 8th

The Metro’s GameCentral section has posted up a really good interview with Asura’s Wrath developers CyberConnect2. In it they discuss the finer points of of getting really, really angry, growing six arms and the inevitable question about quick time events:
GC: Even amongst people that have really enjoyed the demo there is a lot of concern that the gameplay is predominately only quick time events, what percentage of the overall game are based on those sequences?
HM: The gameplay is very dynamic and changes mesmerisingly from one situation to another, be it scroll shooting, combat action or ‘QTE’ each with unique staging according to the situation. This varies from episode to episode, so it is very difficult to specify what the ratio is. The ‘QTE’ you mention is also very different from the QTE commonly known, and there will be no need of repeating the same scene again and again just because a QTE failed – and we have removed other hated aspects people tend to have about QTEs.
